JUMP is an independent magazine published by Mookieland Inc. The parent company is named after a dog. That's how corporate we are (we're not).

This is a full-on, DIY community effort. If you want to get involved, if you have story ideas or if you just have something to say, contact us at

[email protected].

Find us on online at jumpphilly.com or facebook.com/jumpphilly.Follow us on twitter - @jumpphilly.

We really need advertisers. Advertising money allows us to print this magazine and tell stories about the awesome people doing awesome stuff

in Philly. By supporting JUMP, you are supporting the local music scene.

Philly rocks. Spread the word.

We love Philly, pure and simple. And we love music. We're tired of watching our local talent run off to New York or London to be appreciated. We're here to blow up the music scene and shed light on all the amazing things that are happening here.

What we're about

We cover Philly bands, venues, studios, history, bouncers, stylists, producers, clubs, boutiques, restaurants, DJs, music shops, dance classes, labels, promoters, artists, politicians, educators and anything else that has a connection to music in the city.

We document all genres, from hip-hop and indie rock to classical, folk, jam bands, reggae, electronic, jazz and hardcore. We report on everything, from street performers to the Philadelphia Orchestra.

What we do

We are musicians, journalists, students, photographers, artists and random Philadelphians.

We aren't part of any corporation. We are music-lovers. We go to concerts, dance in illegal basement venues, party at clubs, hang with other music-lovers and listen to lots of music. We are all a part of the music scene in Philly in some way or another.

Here are a few of our staffers:

We document anyone doing cool new stuff in Philadelphia. The JUMP Off frequently previews upcoming albums. We also look for folks doing anything interesting within the local scene - either on stage or behind the scenes.

Our cover stories generally connect to the theme of the issue and they always feature Philly talent making moves.

We have profiled Sun Airway, Freeway, Reading Rainbow (now known as Bleeding Rainbow), Nicos Gun, Patty Crash, Jill Scott, Cheers Elephant, Chiddy Bang, The Roots, OCD: Moosh & Twist, Slutever, Suzie Analogue, Blonde Gang and the artist Nosego.

We welcome other organizations that have an expertise that we don't. We've collaborated with local punk zine Modern Bropar, two.one.five, Phrequency, Rhyme Street, the School of Rock, SEDSO Design, Masthead Print Studio, The Swollen Fox, Philly Phoodie and others.

If you're headed out to party, you should eat and drink somewhere. We show off great places that either offer music or are near music venues.

You can learn so much through music. We talk to folks having an impact on their communities.

We ask local music folks to talk to other local music folks about what they see happening in town.
