JUNE 20 ~ TWELFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

In today’s gospel, we see a sleeping Jesus with frightened disciples in stormy waters. A scene that calls to mind those times when we have been afraid, worried, even desperate. Crying out to Jesus, we ask why is he not saving us, protecting us. Just as Jesus reassures the disciples, he does the same for us. The invitation Jesus gives us today is to assess our trust in him. As his disciples, do our lives witness to a trust, and faith that sustains us in good and not so good times? Is there someone in need of Christ’s reassurance today? “Don’t be afraid” he is with you!

En el evangelio de hoy, vemos a un Jesús dormido mientras los discípulos están asustados en aguas tormentosas. Esta es una escena que recuerda aquellos momentos en los que hemos tenido miedo, preocupación, incluso desesperación. Clamando a Jesús, le preguntamos por qué no nos salva, por qué no nos protege. Así como Jesús tranquiliza a los discípulos, él hace lo mismo por nosotros. La invitación que Jesús nos da hoy es para evaluar nuestra confianza en él. Como discípulos suyos, ¿testimonian nuestras vidas una confianza y una fe que nos sostiene en los buenos y no tan buenos tiempos? ¿Hay alguien que necesite la seguridad de Cristo hoy? "No tengas miedo" ¡él está contigo!
