SPERDVAC's Jay Lacey reported at our March 13 meeting that he will begin the marathon with a 23 hour salute to old time radio Jay will include many of Edward R. Murrow's broadcasts from the ' A '1 1 1939-60 era. The program begins at 7 pm pri . Throughout the month KPFK will broadcast a ndmber of programs. Week- days the station will present (in addition to much promoting for funds) shows under the heading of "The Great Masters" between 6 and 9 am. From 10 am untill noon will be "Mystery Mix" (Richard Diamond, Sam Spade, Thin ll ) followed by "Matinee Theater" Man, Mr. & Mrs. North and Johnny Do ar L Radio Theatre, Academy Award) sometime during the noon - h pm slot. However, the price of the Society's tape is going down! Effective last week, the price of DAK's 1800 foot, 1 mil tape has been lowered to $1.10 per reel, tax included. The 25 cent price re- duction reflects recognition by DAK Industries of SPERDVAC's potential ‘buying power.

The first ten reels of the M series is now available. LibrarianCarl Schoffstall has spent many hours listening, grading, eliminatingand recording programs donated by our members.

Unlike the R series, where usually programs of one series filla reel, the M series will normally present a mixture of shows. Carlbelieves the quality of the M series will be close to the high stand-ards set by the R series, compiled from the personal collection ofJerry Haendiges.

Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He was a singer on NBC in the1930s.

LINTON WELLS, a participant in a record-setting flight aroundthe world in 1926, has died in his Washington, D. C. home. Mr.Wells pioneered short wave broadcasts from Latin America over NBCand did newscasts on CBS in the early fourties.

Many of hisproductions have been rebroadcast in recent months on Kevin Stern'sDon't Touch That Dial, KCSN-FM.
