The Baby Moves journey – What is Baby Moves? Baby Moves is a unique physical development,

music and sensory programme especially

developed for babies from birth and their parents

or carers, the baby and toddler is at the heart of

everything we do. Our child centred programmes

respect how babies and young children grow and

develop and follows this growth at the child’s own

pace. Baby Moves links the latest neurological

brain research and theories of child development

with simple activities which support all those

who work with babies from birth along with their

parents and families. Baby Moves involves both

focused and spontaneous activities, along with

lots of opportunities for young children to explore

the sensory environment both on their own and

socially with other children and adults.

The programme has been nationally recognised

and is used within nurseries, pre-schools, children’s

centres, museums and soft play centres.

As designers and writers, we have been the

winners of the prestigious Practical Pre-School

awards for the last seven years since 2008.

The Baby Moves and Toddler Moves programmes

are fully linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage,

the national guidelines and requirements for all

those working with babies and children under five

years in England and Wales, and are compatible

with Education Scotland’s Pre-birth to Three

curriculum.

Baby Moves is now actively looking for and

recruiting individuals who are passionate about

helping babies and young children develop and

grow in this way, in order to fully train them to run

their very own Baby Moves and Toddler Moves

Franchise business. This booklet will give you all the

information you need in order to help you make the

decision to become one of our franchisees.

Baby Moves Ethos and Core ValuesBaby Moves believes that movement is the first

language and one that all babies use and current

research into child development is showing that

increasing a child’s movement will give them

the best start in their lives and education. Our

programme is designed to stimulate each baby’s

unique all round development, and supports the

links which exist between the brain and body.

The Journey so FarBaby Moves was first developed in 2006 by Olwyn

Maurer and Sue Sutherland, who saw that the

programmes which were available for parents to

take their young children to did not fulfil the needs

for children to engage in spontaneous movements

within a creative and stimulating environment. This

was especially so for babies under one years of

age. After researching how babies grow and learn,

they linked both the theory and practice to create

the Baby Moves and Toddler Moves programmes.

Since then Baby Moves has gone from strength to

strength now being used by many professionals up

and down the country.

Olwyn and Sue have come from two different

backgrounds and have added their own unique

experience, knowledge and understanding to the

programme. They are recognised trainers within

the early years sector and are regular speakers and

training facilitators at local authority training days

and conferences.

Olwyn has been a professional classical dancer with

the Royal Northern Ballet after which she studied

for a post-graduate degree as a dance artist in

education, becoming a movement in education

specialist. She has worked in nurseries and schools

helping children to enjoy moving their bodies and

seeing how much this impacts on their learning and

enjoyment of school, seeing on many occasions

children begin to partake in groups, come alive

and participate when engaged in movement and

physical development programmes.

Sue began her professional career as a teacher

of children with special educational needs and

taught in schools for children with severe learning

difficulties and has worked with children with a

range of special educational needs. She trained as

a Creative Therapist putting both education and

creative therapy together and began to work in

nurseries and schools. Sue has recently completed

her Masters of Arts in Early Childhood Education

and is very excited to see how current research

into child and baby development is continuing to

inspire our Baby and Toddler Moves programmes.

Our programmesAll of our programmes are especially designed

for the ages and stages through which babies

and children develop. You can trust them as

they have been extensively field tested in a

multitude of venues and places and are loved by

parents and babies and children alike. We have

carefully developed each one in line with current

neurological and child development research

creating the most up to date child development

classes. All of these programmes are fully linked

to the Early Years Foundation Stage for England

and Wales and are fully compatible to Education

Scotland’s, Pre- birth to Three.

1. Baby MovesBaby Moves celebrates how wonderful

babies are and how ready they are to

engage with the big wide world. Baby Moves is a

multi-sensory physical development and music

programme especially designed for babies from

birth to when they just begin to toddle. Giving

opportunities for communication between adults

and babies and between one baby and another,

with plenty of time for physical development. We

show you how to provide a sensory message,

sensory activities, physical development activities

and plenty of ideas for communication.

2. Toddler MovesWe like to celebrate our active

terrific toddlers and provide a special

Toddler Moves programme just for them following

on from Baby Moves. Based upon the natural

developmental movement patterns of small

children and traditional British nursery rhymes

we give each toddler the opportunity to move,

talk, play and explore within their own special

environment which we show you how to create for

yourself.

3. Kinder Moves As the toddler moves into the pre-school years we

can provide you with programmes for the growing

child. Combining story, music, drama, and dance to

create exciting workshops for the pre-school child.

4. Baby Moves Neuro GymThe Baby Moves Neuro Gym is based

upon the latest neurological research in children’s

brain development and research into how babies

and children grow and develop from birth to three

years. The uniqueness and success of the Baby

and Toddler Moves programmes and the Baby

Moves Neuro Gyms has been due to this.

There are now Baby Moves Neuro Gyms in Soft

Play centres and nurseries across the country

and this is also available as an addition for our

franchisees to develop their own Baby Moves

Neuro Gyms.

The especially developed Neuro Gym equipment

has been designed by the Baby Moves team to

optimise the development of the baby and toddler.

These pieces of equipment are available to the

franchisee.

Your Baby Moves Franchisee JourneyWe have now become a victim of our own success!

There are too many parents and professionals

wanting Baby Moves and Toddler Moves and not

enough people to fulfil the demand. This is why

we have developed our Baby Moves Franchise

programme, our franchisees are people who are

as passionate about facilitating babies and young

children’s growth and learning as we are.

They are trained to our own high standards to

give more families and babies the opportunity

to participate in regular Baby Moves and Toddler

Moves workshops.

Become a registered Baby Moves Franchisee and

invest in our business start-up package, and enjoy

the freedom of running your own business, and

begin your very own Baby Moves Journey.

As a Baby Moves Franchisee you will have the

licence and certification which will enable

you to use the brand name Baby Moves and

Toddler Moves giving you access to our name

and artwork, helping with the advertising and

marketing of your sessions. Your name and

contact details will be displayed on our website,

so parents can contact you directly. We will send

you regular newsletters and further activity ideas,

along with details of networking events, training

days and seasonal discounts. You will also have

access to the forum on our website to talk with

other Franchisees to help and encourage

one another.

You will also receive our full Baby Moves,

Toddler Moves and Kinder Moves programme

downloads, giving you workshop plans and

further interchangeable activity ideas. Supporting

materials include certificates, registrations,

booking forms, health and safety forms and

everything you need for the successful running of

your business.

Once you have completed your initial training, we

will be with you all the way to help you set up your

first few sessions to ensure your success. We

are also just on the end of a

phone if you need help

or advice any time.

The trainingThe Baby Moves and Toddler Moves training is an

Endorsed Learning Programme from Cache, (the

council for awards in care, health and education)

a nationally recognised awarding body for those

working within the child care and education

profession. Giving you confidence with the quality

and relevance of the training and upon completion

of the franchise training you will receive your

certification in Baby Moves from Cache, and we

will place your name on our Registered Body of

Movement in Education Specialists.

The initial training is for four days which includes a

mixture of practical activities and seminars, giving

you the best mix of theory and practice.

This includes training on our products and Baby

Moves packages, enabling you to confidently

promote and sell our ethos into a nursery setting.

The fourth day “Setting you up for success” training

will do exactly as its name suggests, helping you to

identify your market and understand how to reach

them, this includes the all-important advice on how

to manage your finances, and ensuring the health

and safety of yourself and all your participants.

As a Baby Moves franchisee you will learn fun,

simple, physical development activities, to take

away and use with your baby and toddler groups,

such as sensory massage, early communication

skills, sensory awareness and ideas to improve

visual awareness, a vital first step to a child’s

reading and writing skills. You will be able to run

groups for parents and carers with babies and

toddlers, groups within nurseries and children’s

centres, and birthday parties.

The training takes place at the Baby Moves

Neuro Gym, Lancashire. A fantastic venue which

is convenient for both public transport and

those arriving by car, and just 30 minutes from

Manchester by Metrolink and public transport.

Who makes a good Baby Moves franchisee?It is not necessary to have an early years

background or experience to become a Baby

Moves franchisee, but we are looking for those

of you who have the following qualities and

experience.

• A passion to work with babies and

young children

• A good communicator

• Enjoy working with adults as well as children

• Energetic and enthusiastic

• A DBS (data and barring service) certificate (if

you do not have one we can help you)

• Public liability insurance (we can help you with

this as well if you do not have any)

• Driving licence and vehicle

Estimated earningsThere has never been a better time to take a

franchise on as we have been busy adding extra

features to enable our franchisees the opportunity

to earn a very strong income with your own

exclusive Baby Moves territory. Earning potential is

amazing as we are now allowing franchisees to sell

our Baby Moves Neuro Gym into nurseries within

your territory.

Working as a Baby Moves practitioner and running

a workshop one morning and one afternoon per

day (one hour per session) with a class of 15 babies

per session each paying £6.50, five days per week

you would gross £975 per week or £4,225 pcm.

Baby Moves Neuro Gym and trainingWe envisage that our franchisees will open at least

one new nursery per month where they will sell a

Baby Moves Neuro Gym, we deliver all the training

and we supply the Gym so there is no stock for you

to hold, you simply introduce the idea of a Neuro

Gym and demonstrate it. We pay a commission of

£210 per deal based on a £2,100 Neuro Gym sale

and also give you £5 per month from their licence

fee. For example, £210 PCM x 12 sales = £2,520

per year plus £720 per year in licence fees, giving

you a total of £3,240 per annum.

Baby Moves PartyThese Parties are becoming very popular and you

can charge £100 per session.

How soon can I have my return?The total practitioner takings of £4225 pcm or

£50,700 per annum plus the annual Neuro Gym

sales of £3,240 and Baby Moves Parties of £1,200 per annum based on one per month gives

you a total gross takings of £55,140.

These figures are based on a full years takings so it

will take two years to achieve this and these figures

will grow year on year as the licence fees come in.

There is also a range of nursery add-ons that with

only a very small exception also carry commission.

You only get out what you put inThe above figures are based on a franchisee

prepared to work five days a week with occasional

birthday parties at weekends. You may not want to

work these full time hours and that is fine with us

it would be your business after all. We will train you

and give you all the support you need to help you

achieve your own personal goals.
