    Anaheia, CA 92812-0207 PH 7H / 776 - 0632March 1995

March came in as a *kitten' lion! By that, I mean justsprinkles of rain and then took off with the full flurry of onefull grown. It has been a difficult month for so many in CA andyet, through all the tragedies of the rain we hear news reports ofthe blessings of it all! They tell us too, the last day is to belike the proverbial 'out like a lamb'. Time will tell.

Seems to me all the winds had something to do with the monthbeing swept by us so quickly! I took advantage of a somewhatlighter schedule. We did not have any long trips, so I was able toget our big newsletter written. I vowed to try hard to do this, and I did. I felt like saying, WOW! The pending tour schedule isin it so we are hopeful that UNCLE will get it delivered to thedestinations before the concerts. If they aren't, it won't bebecause it wasn't sent early enough! Usually though, it gets therein fairly good time.

Also, since it was time for annual physicals, we started thatroute. Time consuming to say the least. However, preventativemedicine has its' benefits (Jerry's cancer was found that way) soI don't argue when they say, "It's time." Jerry has been found tohave some high blood pressure, so a pill added. Other tests notback yet. We pray for the best on all, as there are BUSY daysahead. Tim's is yet to come. His was scheduled, but Mom got avery severe eye infection (same day as his appointment), and endedin urgent care. It is clearing nicely and I think I must be inpretty good shape, other than this shoulder! We are so verythankful for health to be able to continue our work!

April is very full! We will be leaving on tour again, April 24.Of course, we are all anxious to go, but Tim especially! Majorconcerts will be in Denver, Grand Junction, CO., and Boise, ID.Since these places were all home in past years there will be somany dear friends to see! Tim is especially excited about Boise, since that is where he graduated from High School (Special Ed), andwe will have a school concert there. Several of his teachers arestill living so we anticipate seeing them.

We have vary umjor prayer needs and we urge you to pleaseremember us!

1 Preparation to travel will not be stressful.2 Physical endurance and health needs are met.3 The weather is good. (Our schedule is close and good travel

weather is so important.)4 Finances - that all our expenses will be met. (In addition

to the normal expenses, we have to rent a vehicle whichadds considerable to the total cost.)

5 Travel safety.6 That all is said and done to God's glory!

We have said in every piece written, I believe, (this is noexception) thank you so very, very much for your love, constantprayer support, and certainly, financial assistance. Only our Lordknows how grateful we are, but I try to express our thanks. MayGod's Richest Blessings be with you each one!

We are getting down to the REALLY wild days before we take off and thereis so much to do until! One priority is to get this off, as we have severalurgent items to be kept in prayer.

FIRST: Prayer for our travels! As you can tell by our Itinerary - it willkeep us going from the day we leave until we return home! Take note of theconcert Oct. 19, in San Antonio, TX. The next night is in El Paso! That is a*fer' piece for one day (about 600 miles) and to also have the Concert Oct. 20!Of course, HAVE to visit at least a tad too. El Paso was originally scheduled forOct. 22. There had been a conflict In communication and a church in NewportBeach went ahead and scheduled us into their calendar without confirming it.WOE IS ME, we had a real problem but It was not wise to tell them we could notcome! Since we wanted to see our El Paso friends so badly, they graciouslychanged the date to Friday p.m. Now, we can do this o.k. if you pray!!!Saturday we'll hurry on home and hope to arrive at a good hour on Sunday tobe ready for Monday.

SECOND: you remember our hopes and prayers to get established in somethingpermanent for Tim! It seems the right thing was never there. A feature storyran this week in our paper, in addition a T. V. station came for an Interview. From these cgmie numerous possibilities and we feel strongly the Lord is leading. One possibility stands out. It came from a man whose daughter lives here. She ,saw the program, and immediately called her father. I do not think it just^happened! He is a developer for a project In NV! The lady who spearheaded it'has a disabled brother, and was so concerned where he would live when hisparents were gone, and too, about them as they aged. Thus, the decision toAbuild a complex where Sr. parents and their disabled child could live. She haspworked years to bring her dream to fruition. This gentlemen was asked by his/friend to help her In building it. He was a southern CA man who moved ther^after 3 months, as he and his wife liked the area so well. In this environmentour family could alt live together, and Tim's gallery would be provided. Wheri^we are not here to care for him, he would continue on as a resident there. SoMUCH more to say, but if plans materialize, we will tell you about it in furtherdetail. This, so far, seems the best of the various calls we received and fitsALL our requirements. How much we need your prayers about this CRUCIALdecision as we explore this and other possibilities! Also, another plus, our healthinsurance can be transferred there.

THIRD: We have a concert at the Main Branch of the Anaheim Public Library,Sept. 7, the next day we pick up the car and start loading, then we have aconcert on Sept. 9 and 10 then leave very early Sept. 11. and DRIVE! so

PRAY FOR: SAFETY. OUR HEALTH AND STRENGTH. THAT OUR VEHICLE RUNSWELL Cno time for trouble). GOOD WEATHER, and THAT WHEREVER WE GO THELORD IS GLORIFIED! PRAY FOR A LARGE MEASURE OF WISDOM AND GUIDANCECONCERNING OUR FUTURE PLANS!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE HAVING A CONCERT OUR LAST MAIL PICK UP WILLBE SEPTEMBER 8! IF YOU HAVE NOT RETURNED YOUR CONFIRMATIONSHEET WITH DIRECTIONS SEND POST HASTE. OUR MAIL WILL BE FORWARDEDONCE A WEEK. WE MIGHT NOT FIND YOU!!!!

We sincerely thank you for your love, prayers and all you do for us!

Time to get with it and tell the events of this past month! It was a real WOWmonth except Tim was too stunned to say WOW which is his usual expression whensomething is particularly exciting or wonderful, and that's the way it was! 1*11start where I left off in June. That is of course, with the trip to New York.Without a doubt the prayers we asked for went up, and we had as near perfect atrip as we could have had, even to the airport we left from! Ordinarily we takelong trips out of L A. When they called from the Kennedy Foundation and askedwhere we wanted to depart from, I suggested Long Beach if possible. It is closerand easier, A good flight was available and was booked. If you recall, theALARMING situation the UNIBOMBER caused 4th of July weekend (when we weretraveling), thus L A airport was turmoil. The flight from Long Beach had a bitmore security but otherwise It was the sane quiet, sleepy little airport andopened 15 minutes ahead of time. The TV reporters said, be at all airports 2hours early. We went 1 1/2 hours as this airport does not open until 1 hourbefore the first flight which is 7:30 a, m. Our flight was first out. Departurenearly on time, and arrival in N Y the same. Hotel was absolutely stunning witha suite of rooms on 24th floor. What a view of the city! We arrived on Thursdayp.m. had a good nights rest, and Friday morning my brother Clyde and his wifeWanda arrived from Canton, OH. We had a late breakfast together, and the restof the day was preparation for the evening event, held in the massive UnitedNations building delegates dining room. With it's walls of glass, we were/overwhelmed by the spectacular, peaceful view of the east river. The thoughtiA-^raced in my nind, "Oh, why can't this world be as tranquil and calm as the viewfrom this building which is the focal point of world peace?" However, the truepeace can only come through Him. Tim was eager for the event and was very readyespecially when he saw the glistening black grand! Before we knew it, the timewas here and the elegance of the event was soon another pleasant memory. Kindremarks were made by Maria Kennedy Shriver as she spoke of Tim. We thrilled atthose we met from arouuil the world, and renewed friendship with other members ofthe family, we had met previously in Washington. So many asked how Tim playedlike he did. Of course, he is not bashful in saying, "His gift is from GJod!"Naturally this opened the door to allow us to give some information about ourwork as we visited with the delegates. All were workers or educators in theircountry in the area of mental retardation, so it was most interesting. Somecountries very progressive, others primitive, but making strides. The KennedyFoundation was so kind and thoughtful, and were truly pleased with Tim'sperformance. "We'll use you again, you can be sure!" they said. The next dayClyde arranged a tour of the city, by Limo as a Birthday gift for Tim. That gaveus a NICE visit as well as opportunity to see the major things. We of courseenjoyed a tour of the United Nations also. All that was NOT great was sayinggoodbye to Wanda and Clyde, and the wonderful hostesses from the KennedyFoundation, However, this almost fairy tale week-end did come to an end, and wehad a marvelous flight home! How wonderful God was to us., oh, I almost forgot., perfect weather too! How we thank you for your prayers.

An unknown and unexpected surprise! One of Tim's paintings was entered inshow at the Orange County Fair. When we went to pick it up there was a ribbon. He had received ^honorable mention* in contemporary art category. Joy!

July 28, 1995, truly a day Tim will forget! You will recall the effortof the 'Stitch and Chat' group to secure a keyboard for him. Well, with money

  • from this group collectively and individually as well as a host of friends fromacross the country this hugs task was acjc^omplished and in a surprise celebrationit was presented to him! Erma Lazzereschi, the group's representative, kept usposted on progress of their goal and wh^iji it was reached. Next was the purchase! Now into the picture, Pat Stoops and Daivid Denos of *Play It Again' Music Storein Antioch, CA. Their price considerajllion and assistance allowed the realitymuch sooner! Next, how to get the keybojard from northern to southern CA. On thescene Tim De Witt, Alexander's Moving and Storage in Hayward, CA. He wrappedit carefully in foam, and packed for shipping and found a spot on one of theirmoving vans and it was transported frele to Tustin, CA. WOtf! What team work.Jerry and I were at the warehouse in Justin, at 7:00 a.m. July 24. The mengently put it in the van and we were off to Bruce and Ann Tilton's, our 'other'kids. Bruce stayed hoflie from work long |enough to help unload and unwrap it. Itwas secure now in Bruce and Ann's bedrpom until the presentation!!! They hadoffered their beautiful and spacious hon^ for this surprise event. They, and ourneighbors, whom Tim has adopted as his ^andparents, Bernie and Stan Detweiler, helped Jerry and me pull it all off. jEjvents transpired as follows: The datewas set, Friday, 7/28, the theme of course MUSIC* Next - SHOP, try to find paperplates, cups, etc. with the theme inj black and white. Only napkins wereavailable. Got them! Found a black tabile cloth, could put white doilies on it.Then appeared some plates, black and whi^e with lively red, purple, yellow, andgreen! I thought how colorful. Took th^m. NO cups - "We'll just use white Itold Jerry!" Then a light bulb came oiilin my head...we could have Tim paint amusic design on them. We told him Ann and Bruce were having a party for a friendwho was musical, and that she nor I could not find appropriate decorations, wouldhe decorate the cups and doilies with ^ music design? "OH, I'd love too!" hesaid. Perfect solution. Next, was to get him there. We had to go early to pickup cake. Problem solved. Told him Ann would like some of our friends at her_party. JBemie_ and Stan . were- able to and Connie ( another^-neighbor )wasspending the evening with them, so she wjoiuld go too! All the guests arrived andat 7:20 p.m. Bernie, Stan, Connie and Tim arrived. Everyone was standing in theliving room area when he opened the doorj and yelled 'surprise', he did not seethe keyboard at first, but then he spied the clever sign on it, made by Bruce andAnn's daughter Kimberly. So stunned, jail he could say was, "Oh...Oh....OH!"Then we had music!!! Tim has said over and over, "I can't believe it, I can'tbelieve it, isn't it wonderful?" A briof description of the keyboard...it isfully computerized, and does about everything except talk to you. Maybe it doesthat too, but he and Jerry haven't gott^jn that far yet. He can record on it -has 16 tracks and instruments and sounds galore. It is impossible to relay thejoy and challenge it has brought and wil]| continue to bring, nor can I describethe overwhelming gratitude that Jerry and I have for all who have made this anactuality, as well as the many, many fripnds who have so faithfully upheld us,and our ministry these many years. I have so much more I could say, but findwords are not adequate. I am able Ito say however, we are very, verygrateful.. .to HIM and to each of you who j^re apart of our lives in any way! WOW!Major etforts now'fo^sed on LONG t^rbegin SEPTT^Tl. Prepiarat^ion~is a bigjob. More later but please PRAY! Thank :^ou so much and God Bless You Each One!

What a shot in the arm thanksgiving brings to each of us, as we reflect howGod has blessed/cared for us through another year! So much has happened sinceI wrote, I hardly know where to start...BUT I will try! You will remember wewere going to Las Vegas, NV to the Williams Syndrome convention. It waswonderful! We are always eager for conversations with other parents. One youngfather was there alone, and it was obvious he was devastated. Their baby(disabled) was new and physically unable to travel. We were able to talk to himfor considerable length of time, and share our same struggles that he and hiswife were experiencing. !^is love for his wife and baby was so evident but howcrushed his ego was! Telling him these are the feelings of every parent, seemeda great help. We emphasized how the Lord was our strongest hope and power, andalways there! He was such a fine young man, and his love and tenderness showedthrough his tears. I would love to have met his wife. From there we headed toCarson City, (actually Gardnerville, 13 miles south of C.C.) where the SierraAssisted Living Residence Is to be. We were graciously hosted in the home ofPeck and Tim Nagel, parents of Ellie O'Toole, whose dream is bringing theresidence to fruition. What a remarkable, loving family! We went with so manyquestions, reservations, and yes, suspicions, even though it seemed providentialthe way it all was laying into place. We were there 4 days, seeing the plans, meeting people, and Tim performed. It looked positive but after iseeing a bookof 50th Anniversary (1988) love letters to Tim and Peck, from people around theworld, and an 80th (1993) handmade birthday book for Tim Nagel, (hand tooled andpoetry written by their quadriplegic son) of thoughts expressed by Peck and eachof their 8 children, we knew they were truly the fine people we had thought theywere. The ni to it all was the time the builder's daughter, who lives inHuntington Beach, CA, saw the TV program about Tim's endless prayer for his ownart gallery with a performance setting. It was on Orange County News Channel,(seen mostly in Orange County) and does not bear a wide audience at gicQiic butshe was up! She just caught enough to know it might be helpful to us and to thefoundation. Not seeing it all, she later called the station, and they said itwould run off and on all day if she didn't get it they would send her a copy. She took it from there and things began to happen! Jerry and I were dumbfoundedto learn the hour she saw it and felt after all our prayers and certainly fromthe host of you and others around the world, surely this is God's will for Timand for us! We talked with many, and then our TAX lady, and it seems best if wemove by January. We will be able to begin to organize, and sort through theMOUNTAIN of memoirs, art, photographs, newspaper clippings, efcri^TTat wtT\ be apart of the gallery, before the actual work of getting in the gallery. It willtake so much time! Also, "by leaving in January we will net have to file CA taxnext year! Our next hurdle, was a place to live, until the facility is finished.Again the Lord took care of this, and it just seemed a nice small apartment waswaiting for us! They are truly at a premium in the location needed. We had

  • murmur. His EKG was alright, and hedoctor said he thought it might be a tHhim not to make the move, or drive.

s scheduled for an Echocardiogram. Theght valve. He said he saw no reason for

It is not wise to attempt the total move,so we are doing the packing, and havei a moving van scheduled for pick-up Jan.2nd, with arrival in Gardnervills, JaWL 3rd. This pretty much sums it all up!

I am sure you are thinking, "Will >iou give up your ministry as you have itnow?" Absolutely not. It will allow ud to continue doing the same thing we havebeen doing here, but in a needy and new area with MUCH LESS traffic to hasslewith. The Carson Valley can becoma a|c|quainted with our work, which will be abenefit when the gallery is ready. The only change will be we do not plan anyLDi'JG car^ tours_such_,as we have done^ It is time^fpr thjs to ^_nd. I haveinclu*3ed a letter Tim wrote to his friefid Mark. I am sure after"y
