Tregeagle Public School Newsletter – Term 1 Week 1/2 2020

Fortnightly Newsletter In 2020, Tregeagle PS will be changing to a fortnightly newsletter. The newsletter will be sent out every even week Thursday. If there is an urgent note that needs to go home in between, we will send it home on a fluro piece of paper (easily seen by parents) and it will be school streamed using the app. School Stream App The School Stream app provides a platform for Tregeagle PS to deliver unmissable information to parents. We would love for all parents to download this app and make sure it is up to date to receive regular notification. You can also put in your child's absences and receive newsletters through the app as well.

This scheme, managed by the NSW Ambulance, provides assurance that any student enrolled at a NSW public school, who has an accident or falls ill whilst at school or on an organised school excursion or activity, and requires the ambulance service, will have this cost met through the scheme. For the 2020 school year, coverage of the scheme will continue to include interstate travel for students attending fully supervised school activities within all States and Territories with the exception of South Australia and Queensland. In these instances, it will be necessary for families to arrange separate individual student travel insurance/ambulance cover for activities within South Australia and Queensland. Updated Student Details Form If you have changed addresses or contact numbers recently, please provide your new information on the ‘Update Student Details Form’ sent home with students today. This may also be sent through quickly & conveniently to the school ELECTRONICALLY through School Stream under the forms tab. PLEASE ONLY COMPLETE THIS FORM IF YOU HAVE CHANGED DETAILS. Kindergarten students have already completed these forms on enrolment and are not required to complete them again. Prescribed Medications From time to time students may need to have prescribed medication administered at school. To allow us to administer medication to your child/ren we need to have the following processes in place.

1. Parents are requested to come to the school office at the first instance to sign the ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication’ form.

2. Medications need to come to school with clearly written instructions as to the exact dosage and time to be administered.

3. All medications need to be brought to the office for safe keeping. Students are not to administer their own medication.

4. Students with asthma may keep their puffers in their bag but should come to the school office or to a teacher to supervise them when they need to administer their puffers.

Visitor Sign In/Out from School All visitors to our school who are stopping by and staying for a while are required to sign in and out of the school. This is done via the ‘Visitor Register’ book on the office front desk. If you are working in the canteen or volunteering to assist in the school we are required to know you are here. This is important should any emergency situation arise and also to support the Department’s commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students. Working with Children Checks may be required before visitors can engage in some activities at school. Signing out on departure is also appreciated. Birthdays at Tregeagle School Just a reminder that due to the number of food allergies or intolerances at our school we ask that if students are celebrating their birthday that instead of bringing in a cake or cup cakes they are welcome to bring a fruit platter to share with their friends. The next P&C meeting will be held on Friday 21 February at 9:30am. The meeting will be held in the staffroom. Please call to the office to sign in, should there be an evacuation we know who is on school site. Canteen will reopen this week. Please have orders in by Thursday to allow allocation of orders. Those students in Yrs 1-5, could you please change your classroom on your lunch wallet. 1/2G, 2/3B or 3/4/5A. KS and 5/6B remain the same. A copy of the menu will be at the end of this newsletter. Please note there are no mini pies.

The humble sandwich is the answer to back to school lunches

For most parents, the prospect of kids going back to school means one thing - they're back to making (or buying) school lunches. This year, we're working with the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council to BRING BACK THE SANDWICH - a campaign designed to celebrate the humble sandwich and its place in a healthy and balanced school lunch. Whether it's from the canteen or made at home, a sandwich is a great way to increase a child's intake of nutritious whole grains. Just two slices of whole grain or wholemeal bread ticks off 2/3 of their daily intake for whole grains!

Need some sammie inspiration?

The GLNC have put together a bunch of delicious sandwich recipes. Click here to check it out. Or have a look at HKA's own sandwich recipes here. You can also follow the campaign on Facebook or search the hashtag #bringbackthesandwich
