In line with our Derech Eretz Statement, we mention some examples of how we can be more sensitive toward others and create an even better community. • Whenever a class is in session in the Social Hall, please refrain from walking through or into the Social Hall.• The Synagogue is going to strive to present different perspectives. It reflects on our institution that all presenters are treated with respect. All of these Mensch Messages have been submitted to the office. If you have a Mensch Message you would like us to promote, please email us at [email protected]

In the spirit of our mission “Valuing Diversity and Celebrating Unity,” we believe that a community is built on the collective engagement of individuals representing differing perspectives, whether religious, political, or social. As Boca Raton Synagogue is an environment where all of its members and visitors need to feel valued and welcomed, members are required to comport themselves in a manner which reflects mutual respect and a sense of inclusiveness. In our Synagogue, we value debate about pressing issues. This is consistent with the American democratic tradition. Our sages saw the value of arguments conducted L”Shem Shamayim,“ for the sake of heaven, believing that great minds who engage in respectful debate will arrive at better solutions. They valued and welcomed alternate views, as do we.

“Derech Eretz,” good and proper conduct, and mutually respectful dialogue are core values of the Synagogue community. These create a “safe place” for inspiration and spiritual growth, the central purpose of the Synagogue. It is a violation of Jewish law and ethics to use harsh language (vitriol) to demonize or to marginalize people with whom one may disagree. Uncivil expression reflects negatively on our Synagogue as well as on the individuals who engage in such behavior.

Boca Raton Synagogue expects its members to act and to speak with kindness and sensitivity to others. It is only in this fashion that a strong, vibrant, and harmonious community can be created and maintained. Adherence to this policy is a requirement for membership in good standing at the Boca Raton Synagogue.

A CONTINUED CALL TO ACTION TO BRS MEMBERSWe would like to thank you all those that have signed up to assist us guard our gates, but we are still short in numbers.

The only way we can ensure unwanted guests don't enter our premises is by men and women from the BRS community standing with our External Security guards and checking who comes in.

We only need volunteers to commit to two 30-minute shifts once a month on Shabbat. Training is simple and includes an easy-to-follow training booklet.

Our Rabbis have all signed up as have many of our Board of Directors members. Please sign up by contacting Samy Dwek at [email protected]

MI’DOR L’DOR FROM DOOR TO DOORHave you been looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity in the community for you and your children? Are you homebound and can use some extra help? Then join the new BRS Mi’Dor L’Dor initiative. Under the leadership of Seema Loskove, volunteers will be matched with members of our community who could use some extra assistance and companionship to visit, check in, and help when needed. This will not take a lot of your time but will go a long way to ensure that every member is properly cared for and attended to. If you would like to volunteer or if you could use some extra help, please contact Seema Loskove at [email protected]

WE ALL BENEFIT FROM THE ERUV LET’S MAKE SURE TO SUPPORT IT

The Boca Raton Community Eruv is in desperate need of funds. Yearly membership remains at $100 per family. It is possible to sponsor the Eruv for a particular Shabbat for $360. Donations can now also be made through our website www.bocaeruv.org or by contacting Chani Salamon at (561) 392-1026 for more information. Please help, as we ALL benefit from the Eruv. The Eruv is something we all rely on and often take for granted. If you have not yet contributed, please consider doing so in order to ensure that the Eruv can be checked and maintained.

SETUP YOUR RECURRING PAYMENT PLAN TODAYPlease be advised that the new fiscal year for the Shul has begun! From now through July 31, all payment plans will be divided over the full 12 months. If you were previously on a recurring payment plan, it does not automatically renew, a new form MUST be completed.

If you would like to set up your recurring payment plan please contact our bookkeeper, Amy at [email protected], If you would like to discuss anything pertaining to membership, contact Matthew Hocherman at [email protected].

BRS WANTS TO WELCOME YOU!Have you recently moved into our community? Do you know someone moving into our community? Our Welcome Committee wants to welcome you! Please contact Orlie Cohen at [email protected] or Elana Belizon at [email protected] to find out more about our community and to be set up with a buddy family.

DUES ADJUSTMENTOur High Holiday Packets will be mailed out this week. Please remember that, every Summer, invoices for the full membership amount get mailed to all members, regardless of whether you were on dues adjustment the previous year.

Those seeking dues adjustment must resubmit their dues adjustment application each year. If you need a dues adjustment, please email Amy in the Shul office at [email protected] and submit the completed form to Amy in the BRS office to reset your account to reflect the dues adjustment.

For those completing your adjustment forms, we make the following request: please reconsider how much assistance you need, whether you can become a full-paying member, or if not, whether you can increase the amount of dues you are paying by 25% over last year. As an example, if last year, you paid $800, please consider increasing the amount of membership dues to $1,000. For those who cannot make the increase, the Shul will make the necessary accommodations.

TOMCHEI SHABBAT IS IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF SUMMER FUNDS

We thank all of you who have so graciously given to the Tomchei Shabbat throughout the year. However, our funds are depleted and we need your help to make it through the Summer months. We presently have 29 families relying on our program at a cost of $12,500 a month. Every single penny that is collected for our Tomchei Shabbat Fund is given directly to our families in the program with zero overhead costs. The cost to sponsor a family for a month is $500. We ask that you consider sponsoring a family for a month, but please know that donations of any size are greatly needed at this time. The community working together will enable us to continue to provide food for our families that are struggling financially at this time with dignity.

NEXT SHABBAT, JULY 8Rabbi Efrem Goldberg will give a sermon about the BRS Mission to Poland and participants from the trip will speak at Seudah Shlishit .

BRS AUXILIARIES, ETC.BIKUR CHOLIM

How important is prayer when visiting a patient? According to Nachmanides, "One who visits the sick and does not pray on his behalf has not fulfilled the Mitzvah." This Halakhic ruling is recorded by Rema, Yoreh De'ah. It is for this important reason that Bikur Cholim calls are made in the hospital as part of our fulfillment in visiting the sick.

SOCIAL ACTIONThis year’s Israeli Defense Prize has been awarded to Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and its employees for the company’s development of the Arrow-3 anti-ballistic missile defense system. The valuable prize was presented in Jerusalem by President Reuven Rivlin at his official residence, along with Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and Defense Ministry Director-General Udi Adam.

The system, capable of intercepting and neutralizing ballistic missiles outside the Earth’s atmosphere, was jointly developed by Israel and the United States and is considered the cream of Israel’s defense apparatus. The Arrow-3 interceptor capabilities enable longer range, higher altitude exo-atmospheric interception and more precise ballistic missile engagements.

The Arrow 3 is the only interceptor that does not carry a warhead, but intercepts an incoming missile by crashing into it. The combined interception capabilities of the Arrow-2 and Arrow-3, key parts of Israel’s multi-layered defense system, significantly reduce the possibilities of ballistic missiles striking the State of Israel.Arrow-3 is part of a multi-layer missile defense system in Israel that includes David’s Sling (Magic Wand), the Arrow and the shorter-range Iron Dome rocket defense system. It is slated to be tested by Israel and the United States from a site on Kodiak Island in Alaska next year.
