PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

As we move into a deeper appreciation of what “Springbank Catholic Family of Parishes” means for us, the work ofthe Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is more important than ever.

My vision for the Parish Pastoral Council is a simple one: I need a Parish Pastoral Council that will help me todiscern the spiritual and temporal needs in our Family and community, as well as help the parish team to discernways of meeting these needs, leading us ever closer to the Reign of God.

To achieve this, it is essential that the PPC represents the broad demographic that our communities embody:young and old, rich, and poor, single, married, divorced, gay, straight, white, people of colour. It will be essentialthat the PPC be a blend of parishioners who are either new or longstanding. It will also be essential that the PPCbe composed of not only people who have been part of the parish community for many years, as they hold ourcorporate memory, but also be composed of people who are “new” to the community, as they help us to open oureyes and hearts to new possibilities. It will be important that those nominated and eventually selectedunderstand that they do not represent any group or interest but the Parish Family as a whole.

The future Parish Pastoral Council will be comprised of four members from St. George and four members from St.John the Divine. Once selected, the PPC will elect their Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary. Terms will be limited tothree years, renewable once. Current members of the Transition Team are eligible for one term, and some may beasked to complete a partial term, so that there is some consistency from year to year.

The PPC will not be a reporting structure. Rather, chairs of current committees and organizations (K of C, CWL,SVDP) will be invited to provide a one-page report on their activities for the consideration of the Parish PastoralCouncil.

I will be receiving nominations for the Parish Pastoral Council until 12 noon on Monday, November 15, 2021. AllisonPowell ([email protected]) will be gathering and collating this information. There are multiple ways to send in theinformation for nominations, paper copies are available from the parish offices, a fillable form, and a printable pdffile are available at www.springbankcatholic.ca

The written consent of the person nominated the nominator and the seconder.A brief biography of the candidate written in their own words. A written statement about the candidate’svision for what parish life should be. A written statement articulating what gifts, skills, or insights they might bring to this work. A recent photograph.

Nominations will need to include the following:

These materials will be posted online for the consideration of the parish.

Your input will be solicited electronically on the First Sunday of Advent, with the installation of the new PPCtaking place at the beginning of the year. The first order of service will be to build on the work of the TransitionTeam in developing a set of goals and priorities for the next five years.

Not every nomination will be presented to the Family. In some cases, there may be individuals who will berequired to withdraw their nomination or asked to postpone it until the next round of elections.

Our conversations will be grounded in prayer because it is only through prayer that we can discern where theSpirit might be inviting us.

May God grant the increase as we move forward in this process. In peace,

Michael Bechard (Rev.)Pastor

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE DIOCESE

Learning about the Vision: What does it mean to be a disciple? “A disciple follows the Master daily and shares the joy ofdiscipleship with others. Not by conquering, mandating, proselytizing, but by witnessing, humbling oneself alongsideother disciples and offering with love the love that we ourselvesreceived.” Pope Francis, World Missions Day 2019 Diocese of London: Being a Mission-Oriented Church that FormsDisciples of Jesus

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE: The annual People and Planet First campaign is inspired by the words ofPope Francis, who says that “a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it mustintegrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earthand the cry of the poor” (Laudato Si’, 49). These cries are too often silenced by powerful companiesthat plunder resources in countries of the Global South, without regard for people’s fundamentalhuman and environmental rights. Many such companies are Canadian. Act to end their impunity nowSign the petition asking the federal government to enact laws that will compel Canadian companiesto conduct due diligence across their overseas operations and that will give the victims of their abusesaccess to justice in Canadian courts. PRIEST PENSION FUND: The priest pension fund annual collection will take place on November 14-15, 2021. If you would like to make a donation click here.
