Semester ProjectsA few of these projects include: Hookers Prairie daily graphs Banana screen performance testing ROIC Motor Layout Wingate washer feed losses Various DOE test at Four Corners AMCC 5500/4080/2200 amine testing Hookers Prairie column optimization Created Excel VB program to calculate screen performance coefficients (Alpha & D50) Arranged & organized Jacobs MgO reduction pilot plant data

Amine TestingTo reduce cost at Wingate, Hookers Prairie, and South Fort Meade, we attempted to implement a new amine

reagent developed by ArrMaz Custom Chemicals.

After performing a lab flotation test, we compared the results of the standard and test amine. We then determined to move to a

DOE plant test at HKP and SFM.

Amine Testing

After completing the DOE test at both locations, I

used Minitab to perform a regression analysis and

created model graphs based on the raw data.

Potential ResultsFrom the DOE test we concluded there is a

possibility of replacing the current amine reagent at both locations. The next and last

phase of this process is an EVOP test.

If both of these test demonstrate positive results,

we could lower the cost of amine by 7¢/lb for both

Hookers Prairie and South Fort Meade.

Page 7: Co-op presentation

Possible SavingsWithin the last 12

months, Hookers Prairie has used 1,027,184 lbs of amine and South Fort

Meade has used 1,539,110 lbs.

Assuming dosages do not change, HKP could save $71,903 and SFM $107,738. For a total of

$179,641 annually.

ROIC Motor LayoutUsing satellite imagery, we created a set of drawings that contain various types of information, (such as

location, HP, RPM, etc.) on one central document.

The information collected for the motor layout will also be used

in our Motor Master Cataloging system.

Motor Master Complete plant motor inventory (as installed). Identify where the motors are being metered. Input facility & billing information into program. Identify opportunities. Monitor as power prices change.

Motor Master

• Works as a savings tracker.• Recalculates potential savings when power prices increase.

• Provides a quick evaluation for motor & efficiency changes.
