Global Trade Development Week 7.0: ‘The Global Future of AEO, Customs & Trade’

Introduction by H.E. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy

The UAE Ministry of Economy is glad to be the patron of Global Trade Development Week for another year running. We are honoured to welcome so many esteemed leaders from both the public and private sectors to this year’s forum and exhibition. The theme for GTDW 2016 is ‘The Global Future of AEO, Customs & Trade’. As the host of this event, the UAE endorses the vision of the event to provide a vital platform for business leaders and government authorities to discuss key opportunities for diversifying and deepening economic partnerships. Governments worldwide are working to create an enabling environment for the private sector that allows them to grow their businesses by improving their competitive position so they can expand through trade, and improve their attractiveness to investments. The UAE Ministry of Economy keenly supports Global Trade Development Week for presenting a forum where global business leaders can harness promising economic, trade, business and investment opportunities to raise bilateral cooperation to new heights. Trade facilitation needs an integrated approach because it requires the combined eort and eciency of a number of government agencies as well as private parties and individuals. So, I am pleased to note that GTDW 7.0 has among other thematic subjects, discussions on collaboration between trade facilitation stakeholders and the utilisation of free trade agreements, which as we know, directly impacts the establishment of strong economic and trade relationships in various ways. GTDW is now established as a major international forum committed to increasing knowledge and dialogue between government and private sector trade leaders – and helping us nd innovative new ways of taking the global economy to new heights. Thank you for attending.

Global Trade Development Week 7.0: ‘The Global Future of AEO, Customs & Trade’

Introduction by H.E. Ali Mohammed Soubih Alkaabi, Chairman, Federal Customs Authority (FCA), UAE

As the lead strategic partner for the GTDW 7.0, the Federal Customs Authority (FCA) of UAE welcomes international customs agencies, governments and private sector trade leaders to the 7th Edition of GTDW which will focus on the theme of “The Global Future of AEO, Customs & Trade”. Following the eorts made by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to harmonise and facilitate trade in a safe environment across the globe and in line with the provisions of the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement, the UAE, being the rst Arab country to ratify the Agreement, is keen on implementing the provisions of the agreement, such as the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme. The aim is to establish strategic partnerships with businesses to ensure security of the international supply chain and facilitate global trade through the UAE as a preferred partner. AEO certied businesses will enjoy advantages and incentives with regards to their operations in UAE which will assist and grow trade. Through the mandate of FCA, 2016 will see unprecedented national developments, which include the implementation of TFA provisions across the UAE. GTDW 7.0 comes at an opportune time to develop strategic partnerships and collaborations between nations and the private sector which can enhance Customs’ role in global supply chain security. On behalf of the Federal Customs Authority of UAE, I hope you will have a productive and successful 3 days at GTDW 7.0. Thank you.

WELCOME TO GLOBAL TRADE DEVELOPMENT WEEK 7.031st October – 2nd November 2016 | Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai, UAE

It is a great privilege and honor to welcome you to Dubai, UAE, for The 7th Edition of Global Trade Development Week.

We are delighted to hold this major global trade forum under the continued Patronage of His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy, UAE, and with our lead partner UAE Federal Customs Authority under His Excellency Ali Mohammed Bin Soubih AlKaabi, Chairman of Federal Customs Authority. We also give special thanks to our private sector partners KGH Border Services who have supported the development of this year’s programme.

This year’s theme: ‘The Global Future of AEO, Customs and Trade’ supports and compliments the UAE’s implementation of the World Customs Organizations Authorised Economic Operator Programme across government and private sector entities across the country. The AEO programme is a federal programme that connects the UAE with the rest of the world in terms of trade and customs – recognizing traders as trusted operators and providing exclusive international benets. The AEO programme is set to establish strategic partnerships with other AEO programmes around the world through Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) and compliments the UAE’s position as a leading location for global trade and the eorts of the UAE trade related entities to drive this major new initiative. The UAE’s successful implementation of the AEO programme has been recognized by the WCO as setting the UAE at the vanguard of countries heading toward full and successful implementation of the WCO’s SAFE Framework of Standards to nurture safer and more transparent supply chains for a healthier global trade

Now in our 7th Edition Global Trade Development Week has rmly become regarded as a must attend meeting on the international calendar for trade development leaders from the public and private sector. This year we are delighted to welcome an outstanding speaker faculty of global leaders who will share insights through the interactive 2 day summit programme, exhibition and specialized day of workshops by WCO, UNODC and KGH. We also welcome our international delegations representing leading trade organizations from around the world to share in this year’s programme, exhibition, networking and workshops to truly drive international cooperation and understanding for the growth of global trade development.

As the owner and organizer of Global Trade Development Week we thank you for your continued participation and support. Our sincerest gratitude also goes to our Patron and lead partners from Ministry of Economy, Federal Customs Authority UAE and KGH. We thank all the speakers and panelists for devoting their time to participate and support in this year’s edition. We give special thanks to our lead sponsors, exhibitors, endorsers, media, trade and institutional partners who have contributed to the amazing success of this year’s edition.

We invite all of our exhibitors and supporters to partner with future GTDW editions to continue to engage with our audience of leading global government and business leaders to drive international business expansion and trade development through capacity building, networking, dialogue and exhibition through Global Trade Development Week 2017.

Warmest RegardsAndrew Keable & Michelle WongCo-CEOs & Founders, KW Group

Pakistan Customs is the nation’s premier agency tasked with safeguarding its economic security by facilitating legitimate international trade in compliance with national legislation and international conventions and protocols. It functions within the domain of Federal Board of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, and exercises primary responsibility for collection of import revenues and protecting society from harmful imports that are deemed to be damaging to public health and morality. With its optimized paperless revenue management system, agile workforce and eective administration, Pakistan Customs aims to establish a balance between trade facilitation and enforcement based on its core values i.e. integrity, eciency and courtesy. By developing e-linkages amongst Government departments and other stakeholders and focusing on multi-agency cooperation, Customs stands as a public sector organization with the largest electronic footprint. To protect the economy, contribute to Government revenues and to facilitate trade remain our core commitments.
