The Kettle Moraine Symphony (KMS) brings Italy to WestBend on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. with Italian Voices. The concertto be held at at Our Saviors Lutheran Church,1044, S. Silverbrook Driveshowcases Italian opera andcomposers, and features two arias performed by DeannaGibeau, soprano.
The 60-member orchestra is conducted by PaulThorgaard, KMS music director.
On the program are the Overture from the comic opera,The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini, and a set ofthree orchestral suites, Ancient Dances and Airs, byOttorino Respighi.
Soprano Gibeau of West Bend will take the role of
Cleopatra singing Piangero la sorte mia from GeorgeFredrick Handels finest Italian opera, Julius Caesar.Gibeau will also sing the stunning O mio babbino carofrom Giacomo Puccinis 1918 comic opera, Gianni Schicci,in which Lauretta expresses her love to her beloved father.
What a privilege it is for me to sing again with the KettleMoraine Symphony. Both arias are favorites of mine and I'mespecially grateful for the chance to channel Cleopatrathrough the stunningly beautiful music of Handel, Gibeausaid.
Gibeaus is a familiar voice on the local arts scene, including collaborations with the Kettle Moraine Symphonyand community musical theater where she has been involvedalong with husband Peter, a music professor and KMS musi-cian, and daughter Sophia. Gibeau studied vocal perform-ance at Mannes College in New York City and currentlyteaches private voice, is music director at St. James EpiscopalChurch, sings with the a capella group QuintEssentials anddirects the Moraine Youth Choir.

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I have been told I have no bone leftunder my dentures. I keep getting sharp stinging painwhen I bite down and my dentures pop out when Iopen my mouth even with denture adhesive. What aremy options and how much does this cost?
Dear Jan, I am sorry you are having problems withyour dentures. Teeth maintain bone. When teeth areremoved you can lose 40% of the remaining bone thefirst year after tooth loss. This bone loss will continueevery year until implants are placed to stop bone loss.
This means you can lose height of bone and width ofbone continuously. When you wear dentures thedentures may appear tight but over time as the boneresorbs the dentures get looser and looser. That is whydentures should be relined or remade every 3-5 yearsto try and maintain a better fit between the dentureacrylic and the bone.
Dentures can move up to 1/2 an inch during anormal chewing cycle. That movement coupled withbone loss can quickly lead to exposure of nerves thatcan cause pain from denture pressure.
Solutions to nerve pain involve stabilizing yourdentures or moving into "fixed" teeth again. This isdone by placing implants or mini-implants into the
jaws to support your dentures. How many implantsyou receive is often dependant upon your budget. Ihave written many articles on Upgradeable Dentistrywhich is a concept that allows patients to placeimplants before bone loss occurs. They can thencontinue to add implants over time as their budgetsallow until they have enough support to have apermanent bridge or "fixed teeth." Placing implants as
soon as teeth are lost helps prevent more costly bonegrafts later on. There are ways of making Snap-On-Dentures with a few implants so that the implants canhave attachments that the denture clips to. Thisprevents slipping of the teeth and eliminates the needfor denture adhesive which can be quite annoying toclean out each day. If enough implants can be affordedthen a bar can be made to snap the denture on to andthis allows the implants to be splinted and increasestheir strength.
If we have 6 implants in the upper arch (or more)and at least 5 implants in the lower arch then a hybrid
or "fixed" denture can be made for our patients. If you have lost too much bone according to your
dentist, there may be grafting procedures you canundergo to add bone for supporting implants. Thatcan involve using bone from your chin (chin blockgrafts), bone from your ramus (the area by yourwisdom teeth), or using hip grafts to re-grow thebone. Alternatively, ridge spreading or bonereduction can be undertaken to try and create aplatform that will allow implants to be placed.
We welcome our readers to come in for a no chargeimplant consultation or a comprehensive examinationand implant evaluation to see what your options are foreliminating denture pain. Please see our videos, photosand articles at www.hamptondentalassociates.com
We look forward to meeting you! Ask about our
internet or Hometown Publication special. Pleasenote any implant case started before 12/10/14 will begiven a $300 discount if you bring in this article.Sincerely,Richard B. Winter D.D.S.
