ANNOUNCEMENTS

As I write these lines, we are 14 days away from the end of the school year! Teachers are finishing up year-end reading, math, and writing assessments and students are wrapping up final projects and reports. Third and fourth graders have finished state testing and 5

th graders will take their science test this week -- and

then it’s just make up exams for anyone who was absent. Some grade levels will have teachers out of the classroom for a day or half day over the next two weeks as they conduct 1:1 reading assessments or score math or writing assessments. This is one of the best ways for us to measure student growth so we ask for your understanding and support of this assessment time.

There are also lots of culminating projects and concerts in the next two weeks and we hope that you can join us to celebrate your children’s accomplishments. We keep in contact with a lot of our former students -- they come before and after school to volunteer, help out at community events, visit former teachers, etc. But some have moved away and we’ve lost touch. What makes this celebration so special is that most of these young adults and their families reunite to share the highlights of their years as immersion students and tell us about their plans for after high school. It’s a wonderful celebration of roots and wings and a real family feeling. Join us if you can!

fundraiser continues on May 24 and 31. From 2:30-3:00 only cups of frozen yogurt from Yogurtland will sell for $2.00 with $1.00 of each sale supporting the PTA Family Support Network.

ANUNCIOS

¡Mientras escribo estas líneas, estamos a 14 días del fin del año

escolar! Los maestros están terminando exámenes de fin de año en

lectura, matemáticas, y escritura y los estudiantes están completando

proyectos y reportes finales. Los estudiantes del 3º y 4º grado han

terminado los exámenes estatales y los estudiantes del 5º grado tomarán

sus exámenes de ciencia esta semana – y después solo es re-tomar

exámenes para quienes estuvieron ausentes. Algunos niveles de grados

tendrán a sus maestros fuera del salón por un día o medio día en el

transcurso de las siguientes dos semanas mientras conducen exámenes de

1:1 de lectura o califican matemáticas o exámenes de escritura. Esta es

una de las maneras mejores para medir el crecimiento estudiantil así es

que les pedimos su comprensión y apoyo del tiempo de exámenes.

También hay muchos proyectos de culminación y conciertos en las

siguientes dos semanas y esperamos que nos puedan acompañar para

celebrar los logros de sus niños. Los niños en los grados Preescolar,

Kindergarten Transicional, Kindergarten y 1º todos tendrán sus

presentaciones informativas de música de fin de año en el salón 109 con

Maestra Jacqueline el lunes, 22 de mayo y el viernes, 26 de mayo. La

clase de Maestra Alvarez tendrá su concierto de flauta suave el lunes, 22

de mayo a las 8:30 am en el salón 208. Los Conciertos de Primavera del

4º y 5º Grado se llevarán a cabo en la Cafetería de Edison el martes, 23

por la noche – estudiantes de 4º grado darán su concierto a las 6:30 pm y

los de 5º grado a las 7:30 pm. Los estudiantes de 5º grado están

terminando sus proyectos para la Feria de Ciencia para compartir con sus

padres la noche de Casa Abierta (5/25) y los estudiantes del 3º grado le

están poniendo los toques finales a sus presentaciones de Museo de Sera

que se darán el viernes, 2 de junio por la mañana justo después de que

dejen a los niños. ¡Si ustedes nunca han visto un Museo de Sera de

Edison, quédense un poco e interactúen con las “exhibiciones en vivo” en

el Patio de la Cafetería!

El sábado, 3 de junio patrocinaremos un evento único – Una

Celebración para Graduación de Inmersión para los padres y estudiantes

quienes empezaron juntos en Edison hace 13 años. Nos mantenemos en

contacto con muchos de nuestros estudiantes pasados – vienen antes y

después de clases para ayudar como voluntarios, ayudar en eventos

comunitarios, visitan a maestros pasados, etc. Pero algunos se han

mudado y hemos perdido la comunicación. Lo que hace esta celebración

tan especial es que la mayoría de estos adultos jóvenes y sus familias se

reúnen para compartir los enfoques de sus años como estudiantes de

inmersión y contarnos de sus planes después de la preparatoria. Es una

celebración maravillosa de raíces y alas y un verdadero sentimiento de

familia. ¡Acompáñenos si pueden!

¿RECAUDADIÓN DE FONDOS CON YOGURTLAND -

Esta recaudación de la PTA continúa el 24 y 31 de mayo. De 2:30 – 3:00 solamente vasos de yogurt congelado se venderá por $2.00 con $1.00 de cada venta apoyando a la Red de Apoyo Familiar de la PTA.

LA ENCUESTA FAMILAR ANUAL DE EDISON - Se mandó a los hogares en los paquetes del miércoles pasado. Por favor completen una encuesta por familia y entréguela a la escuela antes del 2 de junio. Nuestro concilio escolar de Edison conduce nuestra propia encuesta familiar cada año para reunir opiniones de los padres y ayudarnos a guiar nuestro trabajo para el año que viene. Agradecemos su tiempo en darnos sus opiniones para que mejor podamos servir a nuestra comunidad. Si no recibieron la copia inicial o necesitan una nueva, pasen por la oficina principal o consigan una copia en internet del “eblast” o “epacket” de esta semana.

¡VISITEN LA FERIA DE LIBROS! - La Feria de Libros de Fin de Año en Edison está abierta hasta el 25 de mayo en la biblioteca de Edison. La feria de Libros está abierta antes de clases hasta las 9:00 am y de 1:30 pm hasta las 6:00 pm. El 25 de mayo (Casa abierta) La Feria de Libros estará abierta hasta las 6:30 pm y de nuevo de 7:30 – 8:30 pm. Súrtanse de lectura para el verano con títulos de la Feria de Libros Mrs. Nelson y LA Librería. Cuando compran libros de la Feria de Libros sus niños tienen un gran verano de lectura Y le ayudan a nuestra biblioteca de Edison porque recibe aproximadamente $1,500 en libros nuevos cada año de las Ferias de Libros.

Join Water Adventures for an exciting wave catching, pool splashing thrill.

Campers will learn essential safety concepts in, on, and around water.

Sunscreen and swim attire required!

Location: John Adams Middle School

Connect with old friends and make some new ones over fun art & crafts

and cool science experiments.

Campers will enjoy a variety of fitness activities, including walking trips to

local points of interest.

Each week ends with a refreshing trip to the Santa Monica Swim Center.

Santa Monica Sports Experience (SMSE) is a thrilling sports camp for your

young sports aficionado.

Campers will explore a variety of athletic techniques, tournaments, drills,

and games that will not only build their physical abilities, but reinforce and

promote sportsmanship and cooperative fair play.

Waiver, Release and Assumption of Risk

In consideration of the applicant’s participation in the activity(ies) for which I am registering, I waive and release all claims for damages from death, personal injury or property damage that may occur as a result of engaging in that activity. This discharges in advance the City of Santa Monica, its employees and other agents from liability even though that liability may arise out of their negligence. I know that this activity involves a risk of accidents, and I willingly assume the risk. This waiver, release and assumption of risk is binding on my heirs and assigns. I give permission for any medical care that leaders of the activity(ies) deem necessary.

INITIAL HERE:

Refund Policy COMMUNITY CLASSES, COMMUNITY AQUATICS, CREST SPORTS, AND CREST ENRICHMENT: A $15.00 processing fee applies for each activity session refunded. Request must be made in writing to the program supervisor in person or by fax, mail, or email. Refunds will be issued only if requested within one day after the first class meeting.

CREST CLUB, HOMEWORK CLUB, AM CARE, LATE START DAY AM CARE, PM EXTENDED CARE: Withdrawal of a child from the CREST Program requires that the Site Coordinator be notified in writing at least one month prior to the withdrawal. Fees are not prorated. Returning participants will be charged the $50.00 registration fee.

CAMPS: Refunds will be issued with medical documentation or if requested at least 5 calendar days prior to the first meeting. Refunds will be prorated. A $15.00 processing fee applies for each activity session refunded. Requests must be made in writing to the Program Supervisor in person or by fax, mail or email.

WORKSHOPS AND INDIVIDUAL CLASSES: Registration and material fees are nonrefundable.

REFUNDS FOR DUPLICATE/MULTIPLE ENROLLMENTS resulting from multiple registration submissions (at one or more offices or via online registration) will be subject to a $15.00 processing fee for each activity session refunded.

Photo Release I hereby consent to the photographing, recording and reproduction in any manner (including use of video and audiotapes) of the likeness, voice, and/or activities of the participant and further authorize the City of Santa Monica, its agents or assigns, to make unlimited use of such reproductions, including but not limited to broadcasting of the reproduction over radio, television, and on the internet. I understand that I will not receive any monetary compensation now or in the future for participating. I do hereby release and hold harmless the City of Santa Monica, its officers and employees from any claims.
