FLAG PRESENTATION The Canadian Flag was presented by Ex Comp Jim Whitfield, First Principal of Keystone Chapter #2

I present the flag of Canada. A sovereign nation and a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations. It represents the long struggle of the Canadian people to establish peace, unity and righteousness in our wide Dominion stretching from sea to sea. The rich heritage of our founding cultures are represented in its design. For the maple leaf reminds us of the loyalty to our beloved Canada which draws unto itself all the loyalties which we hold dear and unites us in a common desire to build our land on the foundations of truth and honor. Here then we salute our flag and pledge allegiance to Canada and to our gracious Queen, Elizabeth II, who in herself embodies the wisdom, the strength and beauty of the ideal which can only make us a great nation. The American Flag was presented by M Ex Comp Al Ohrt, Past Grand High Priest from North Dakota

MEMORIAL SERVICE R Ex Comp John Machowski, Grand Chaplain, was called on to present the memorial service

OPENING INVOCATION

Dear Friends:

Each year we gather to recount the passing tapestry of our fraternal lives. After greeting those we have journeyed with we must pause to reflect on the threads which have ceased to pass through our cloth of legend and gone to enrich the eternal scheme in a far nobler land.

We who remain behind are sorry to no longer share their company but grateful that we did for such a short time. We know that they strove to do right and to be kind; to be helpful and a friend to humanity; to be true Freemasons.

Tonight we will remember them.

PRAYERS Let us Pray;

Father in heaven, hear our Prayer:

All those companions who have passed from this moral coil in years past have found peace at your side.

We ask that you will lift up our recently departed brethren close to your heart; that they may receive, through Your Grace, the peace and contentment they have so justly merited through years of toil here below.

And grant us, we pray:

The wisdom To see that their lives enhanced our own so much and To accept their passing as a reward for a good and trusting servant.

All this we pray as Thou taught us:

Our Father who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil For Thine is the Kingdom The power and the glory Forever and ever. AMEN

ROSE CEREMONY

Representative of each Chapter will place a rose on the Alter in honour of their departed Companions

EULOGY

While we mourn over the loss in our own jurisdiction of so many companions, near and dear to us all, and sympathize with their loved ones, let us pause for a moment and mourn with sister jurisdictions their losses during the past year. Let us observe a few moments of silence in their memory.

HYMN

Amazing Grace

PRAYER

Dear Lord,

As we come to the end of our service this evening, we ask Your forgiveness for all those things we have done in error or failed to do. Teach us we pray to appreciate the world as it is and to see our place in it.

Help us Father to do all that we ought to make this world better for all your people and help us more especially to be worthy to follow our companions in the years to come. AMEN

BENEDICTION

And now;

May the Lord Bless thee and Keep thee The Lord make His face shine upon thee And be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift us his countenance upon thee AMEN

ADDRESS OF THE GRAND FIRST PRINCIPAL 2003/2004 M. EX COMP Leif Hansen

To the Officers and Members of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Manitoba:

The Second Year of the Viking is coming to an end.

It is with pleasure that I welcome each of you to the 81st Annual Grand Convocation here in the City of Winnipeg.

To the many Companions and guests that have traveled from other Provinces and States to be with us today, I wish you a warm Manitoba welcome and hope your stay will be a pleasurable and one to remember.

I had not planned to be standing her again, but the death of our Grand First Principal George Feltham brought me back to this chair again.

As your Grand First Principal for the second time I hope that I have served you well. I visited all the Chapters. My thanks goes to the Grand District Superintendent to allow me to change the schedule for my visitations. I visited all the

Page 11: MOST EXCELLENT COMPANION GEORGE FELTHAM Deceased … Proceedings April 2004.pdf · MOST EXCELLENT COMPANION GEORGE FELTHAM Deceased ... Cryptic Rite Masonry began in Zadoc Council

11

Chapters except for Pre-Cambrian in Flin Flon, some on several occasions and was treated with the greatest of respect. I also attended the District meetings.

Serving you has been both enjoyable and rewarding for me. The many visits made throughout Manitoba and other provinces and states has enriched my soul with overwhelming happiness with meeting new friends and sharing good times with all the Companions..

I profoundly thank each one of you for this great opportunity to have served this Grand Chapter.

This is the hardest part of this report for me. I have watched the decline of membership for several years, and I did not have the courage to go back far enough to see when we last had a gain in our membership. Every possible encouragement has been given by those who filled this office before me. Every plea to work, every possible plan has been attempted and our numbers continue to decline. Have said that I was great to see that during the year we did have new members (so the motto Replace Yourself must continue for years to come) to those chapters well done.

Or as M Ex Comp George said BE A BEACON, a light for Royal Arch Masons.

If I had the key to Freemasonry’s success I would gladly share it with each of you.

A thank you to R Ex Comp John Machowski (Chaplain) for the memorial service last night. To R Ex Comp Jack Hooper for the excellent manner in which the Exec meetings were conducted.

A special thank you goes to all the Grand First Principal Officers and Companions who escorted me on all my visitations in the Province as well as to other Grand Jurisdictions in Canada and the US.

To the Grand offices in line visit other jurisdictions, you will see and may pick up new ideas how other Grand bodies attend to their business.

A thank you to M Ex Comp Stan Payne for all you work during the year, and as you leave us we still hope that your knowledge will be passed on to your successor in Office, but we all thank you for a splendid job done.

Finally a special thank you goes to my wife, Hilda, for your support has helped make this a great year. For your company on some of the many miles made the trips shorter, and when you didn’t go you message “Phone me when you get there and phone when you leave.” Thank you Thank you.

So the Second Year of the Viking comes to an end

Again my Companions, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Respectfully submitted, Leif Hansen, Grand First Principal

PHILANTHROPIC PROJECT Chairman's Report to Grand Chapter 2004

Most Excellent Sir, Distinguished East, Companions All:

While I’m still in shock at all the fantastic response we had in Dauphin last April, this year looks almost as productive. Exact figures will appear in the annual year end report but I will go on to say that the Chapter support of our project is phenomenal. My task as your Chairman seems to be made easier as the years pass; It’s hard to describe the inner satisfaction or feeling just from knowing that collectively we are doing something wonderful with our Royal Craft here in Manitoba. As most of you know already, this past year has been anything but enjoyable in the James household. My Lady Ellen watched with pride as we grew in assets and it was her idea that our project be the recipient of charitable donations when her time came. To this end I am happy to report that $868.00 was donated in her memory. The odd figure looks a bit unusual, but one Companion handed me a check for $73.00, one dollar for every year she was with us, very commendable. Thanks again Companions, for making this chairmanship one of the most pleasant tasked anywhere in Masonry in Manitoba.

I move acceptance of this report, MEC John C James, P.D.G.G.H.P., Grand Treasurer, Chairman Philanthropic Project

Seconded by V Ex Comp Sid Denby Carried

GRAND SCRIBE "E" REPORT

M Ex Comp Stanley Payne

Most Excellent Sir and Companions:

The year just past has been a very trying one for me. I had looked forward to spending my last year with my friend Most Excellent Companion George Feltham. He sparked my enthusiasm with his enthusiasm for the ensuing year. Needless to say, that my renewed enthusiasm was dampened when we lost George, but we know that death is a natural part of life and we can all look forward to seeing each other again in the “Great Beyond”.

Although nothing of great significance took place in the Grand Scribe “E’s” office I managed to meet all my obligations. Our statistics for this year are as follows: (1) This year there were 29 Companions called to Greater Service. This five more than last year but lower than

our 14 year average which is 33 Companions. (2) There were 24 Companions who requested demits which is 5 less than 2002 and less than the 14 year

average which is 33 Companions (3) This year our Chapters suspended 20 Companions for non payment of dues which is 6 less than last year and

much lower than the 14 year average which is 32 suspensions per year. (4) This year we gained 18 Companions through admissions, restorations and affiliations. Overall our loss was 73

Companions. (5) Total membership in our Grand Jurisdiction is 605 Companions. We have 53 Life Members which leaves only

552 Companions to pay the bills.

I am of the opinion this Grand Chapter should eliminate the Life Membership program. At the present time there are only two Chapters that do NOT have life members. Through this program our Chapters are losing needed funds as is Grand Chapter. As long as there is a Life Membership Program it is difficult to refuse Companions who make a request of Life Membership. If Grand Chapter suspends the program it will encourage Chapters to do the same.

One thing that continues to concern me is the Grand Representative Program. At the present time we have 32 jurisdictions that do hot have a Grand Rep in Manitoba. This is 37% of the jurisdictions that we recognize. I charge the new Grand Officers to restore a new interest in this program, both for those holding Grand Rep offices and for some new faces which may help if they take their responsibilities seriously.

This is the ninth and last time that I will be presenting the Grand Scribe’s reports. My goal for those nine years has been three fold. First, to do a credible job. My second goal was to keep the expenses of the Grand Scribe’s office to a manageable amount and I have done that. I have managed a sparsely outfitted office in the corner of my bedroom and held costs to a very reasonable level. I think our Grand Treasurer will confirm this. Our overhead costs are without a doubt the lowest in Canada and the U S.

In the last couple of years my goal has been to computerize as much as possible in the Grand Scribe’s office. The result has been that I will give my replacement a much easier job to do.

I have enjoyed corresponding with other Grand Scribes and Grand Secretaries throughout the world. Just a few months ago I described to the Grand Scribe “E” in South Africa our extremely low temperature here in Manitoba. A short time later I received correspondence from him telling me it was +39 Celsius in his part of the world.

I will work closely with R Ex Comp Ted Yorke for the next year to ensure he gets the harness on right and I have every confidence that he will get the job done.

It is through my being in office that I have gained MANY close friends – I will do my best to maintain these friendships. I wish all the upcoming officers the best of success and you can rest assured you will have my continued support. I will continue to offer my two cents worth to the success of the Grand Chapter of Manitoba.

REPORT OF THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT DISTRICT 1 R Ex Comp Ernest B S Smith

Grand District Superintendent District #1

Most excellent Sir, Distinguished East, Companions All,

It is hard to believe that it was only a year ago when I was invested as Grand Superintendent of District #1 in the Sunshine City of Dauphin. I would like to thank Stan Payne for nominating me for the position, and the Companions who accompanied me on my official visits. Rick Veley for being my Secretary and my Chaperone M Ex Comp Neil Pow. (He drove most of the time as he does not like riding in a truck. I feel I had a good year in District #1. Two supper meetings were held in November and March in CanadInn at Garden City. A few small problems were discussed and reported at the Grand executive meetings. My official visits were done by November - Prince Rupert #1 and Red River Valley #21, both on Installation Night, and Prince of Wales in September. Installing work by the Officers was very good; Red River a little better as M Ex Comp Pow has been doing it since I can remember. I attended all meetings with Grand First on his official visits to District #1 and Rabboni District #2 and Eureka with M Ex Comp Feltham on his Official visit. I have attended all Chapter meetings in District #1 except January and February, both at Prince Rupert. CONDITION OF CHAPTERS: Prince Rupert #1 Degree Work 7 M M 7 M E M 4 R A M and 4 R A M in May Degree work by the officers was exceptional good. Financial Condition Report is Good

Prince of Wales 3 R A M 3 M M M 3 M E M and # R A M for April 28 Degree work by the officers was good. Financial Conditions is Very Good.

Red River Valley #21 No Degree work as we had no candidates Opening work needs some practice. Financial condition is good.

I have enjoyed this year as Grand Superintendent. I have met new Companions and made new friends, and would like to thank all the Companions in District #1 for the hospitality and reception I received on my visits, official and unofficial to the Chapters.

I move acceptance of the report. Seconded by M Ex Comp N A Pow Carried

REPORT OF THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT DISTRICT #2

R Ex Comp Ron Church

Most Excellent Companion Lief Hansen, Distinguished East, Distinguished Companions All,

Our District was deeply saddened with the loss of our Grand First Principal Most Excellent Companion George Feltham to the Grand Chapter on High. He was a deeply respected Companions-Brother.

Page 15: MOST EXCELLENT COMPANION GEORGE FELTHAM Deceased … Proceedings April 2004.pdf · MOST EXCELLENT COMPANION GEORGE FELTHAM Deceased ... Cryptic Rite Masonry began in Zadoc Council

15

Our District was very humbled for M Ex Comp Lief Hansen to step back into the chair of First Grand Principal.

I completed my official visits in October and November in which I have V Ex Comp Bill Kozak and R Ex Comp George McLean travel with me. I visited each chapter once officially, some twice unofficially. The work in these chapters was excellent.

Keystone Chapter #2 opened and closed in a different degree at each meeting and an educational paper was presented at each meeting. Their meetings were conducted in excellent form.

Rabboni Chapter #7 raised two new Companions and hosted a Widow’s Degree. I was unable to get to the MMM Degree and the Widow’s Degree due to work, but was able to get to the MEM and the Holy Royal Arch Degree, in which Degrees were performed in excellent form.

The trip through the park was always great as the Park’s finest inhabitants came out to greet us both coming and going. I was only able to get to Keystone Chapter #5 once as it was on the same night as our Eastern Star. Their work was excellent.

Eureka Chapter #15, my home Chapter, hosted a joint Ladies Night with Mound Lodge #118, which was very well attended.

I was able to attend two Official visits of Grand First Principals. That of Keystone Chapter #2 and Prince of Wales Chapter #11, but due to the distance it was the lateness of the hour when I arrived.

Our District Meetings was held in Portage la Prairie in February with all four Chapters well represented. We were pleased to have Ex Comp Len Pritchard elected as Grand District Superintendent for District #2. Ex Comp Don Beattie led us in Chapter Instruction. The Eastern Star provided an excellent lunch in which cost was covered by the Companions with no cost to the District. I was presented with the Past Superintendent’s Apron of R Ex Comp Duguid. I asked our District’s Treasurer to take part of the Superintendent’s Honorarium to put towards the Philanthropic Fun in memory of R Ex Comp Duguid and M Ex Comp George Feltham.

The Chapters in District #2 are holding their own financially and membership-wise, but have expressed concern for memberships down the road.

Our district has 179 Companions. We have lost seven to withdrawals, six to suspensions, and six to Grand Chapter on High.

As this term of office is drawing to a close, we will do our utmost to support R Ex Comp Len Pritchard in his term of office. It was a humble privilege to serve as District Superintendent of District #2.

I so move this report. Seconded by V Ex Comp Joe Kozak Carried.

REPORT ON THE CONDITION OF CAPITULAR MASONRY ROYAL ARCH MASONS OF MANITOBA

R Ex Comp Trevor Lambert

Most Excellent Companion Leif, and Companions All,

In the last few years, I have accompanied the present and some of the Past Grand First Principals on some of their official visits. On those visits, I was made to feel very welcome. I have also received a steady stream of notices, thanks the Scribe “E”s of the various Chapters, which I assure you, I have read carefully. Furthermore I have reviewed the “Report of the Conditions of Capitular Masonry” reported over the last few years. The reports did not make particularly inspiring reading. Many of the trends my predecessors reported, I too have also noted. However, I was pleased to note that some of the suggestions made by predecessors have been heard, and at least partially implemented. Apparently, members have been either listening, or are of the same mind. Yes, attempts have been made in some cases at least, to make the meetings more interesting. Yes, there have been attempts to involve families in our activities. Many Chapters have also renewed their acquaintance with some aspects of the ritual, which may have become rusty with the dearth of candidates. Meetings tend to be more interesting when the performers are familiar with their work and when there is some variety in the ritual. All these changes appear to me, at least, as positive improvements. While they do tend to make the meetings more interesting, for those who attend, and perhaps attract some of the alienated members, it doesn’t resolve the problem of recruiting new members. Undoubtedly there are a number Masons who might be recruited into the Chapters and they should not be ignored. However, just like processing potatoes, the reservoir must be reloaded regularly. You can’t make french fries unless you keep the

reservoir topped up with raw material. In other word, support your Craft Lodge and active recruit new members for your Craft Lodge. If the Craft Lodges are healthy, the other Masonic bodies will also be healthy.

REPORT OF THE GRAND HISTORIAN R Ex Comp Trevor Lambert, Grand Historian

To the Most Excellent the Grand First Principal, Officers and Companions of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons on Manitoba

In this report I intend to look at Royal Arch Masonry as it was a century ago, in other words, almost to the cradle of Royal Arch Masonry in Manitoba. In addition, we have experienced a difficult year with the sudden death of our Grand First Principal and the sudden recall of our previous Grand First Principal to duty. However all seems to have come out satisfactorily despite that loss and other unfortunate losses such as the death of the long term Scribe E of Precambrian Chapter

Royal Arch Masons in 1904: a hundred and one years ago, Royal Arch Masonry was almost on the ropes. Although there had been a brief period of expansion in the early 1809’s, by 1900, all the Chapters in Winnipeg had amalgamated in Prince Rupert #52 (G C of C). Rurally, only Corinthian Chapter #101 of Boissevain remained viable although Zeredatha Chapter #111 remained on the books but did not meet after 1900. This was due in part to a deep financial depression in the late 1890’s. Does this scene sound familiar? At that time of course, all Royal Arch Chapters belonged to the Grand Chapter of Canada (Ontario).

By 1900, the depression had started to lift and there existed a pool of older, established men in the smaller communities, skilled in civic affairs, and with some time, interest and energy for other ideas. Royal Arch Masonry only awaited enthusiastic leadership, in the right place, to blossom. Oddly enough of this motivation did not appear in Winnipeg where the Royal Arch was strongly entrenched. It occurred in Neepawa where there was a strong Craft Lodge, and active railway line for transportation and a relatively prosperous population with the rigors of settlement behind them. The catalyst was new bank manager by the name of George McIntyre Gibbs.

R Ex Comp George McIntyre Gibbs: Mr. G M Gibbs, a banker, was transferred to Neepawa in 1902 to open a b ranch of the Bank of Commerce in Neepawa. His specialty seems to have been to establish new branches, and then be transferred to the next point of expansion. He followed the usual script by establishing a successful branch in Neepawa before being transferred to Dawson, Yukon to open another Branch. George M Gibbs was made a member of the Craft in southern Ontario in 1889. His employer moved him frequently and this permitted him to be active in sever Craft Lodges in Ontario before coming west. On arriving in Neepawa, he joined Neepawa Lodge #24 in 1902. A contemporary described him as “a good fellow, well met, a keen good organizer and a booster if there ever was one” He remained a member of a Chapter in Ontario but almost immediately, began to agitate to form a local Chapter of the Royal Arch in Neepawa. Since there were a number of men who had been members of the Royal Arch elsewhere, he had no difficulty. A Dispensation was read in a meeting on 6 April 1903 establishing King Edward Chapter U D. R E Comp G M Gibbs was installed as the First Principal Officer. King Edward Chapter #136 received a warrant in 1904. In 1904 King Edward Chapter #136 sponsored Keystone Chapter #142 in Brandon. First Principal G M Gibbs attended that meeting with several members from Neepawa. In 1905, G M Gibbs was appointed the Grand Superintendent of District #15 for 1905/6. He was transferred to the Yukon before completing his term. King Edward #136 was only the first of the known bodies the R E Comp Gibbs influenced. Before leaving Neepawa, he was the prime mover in the establishment of Mount Camel Preceptory #44 in 1905. In the Yukon, the pattern repeated itself. Banker Gibbs succeeded in establishing a branch of his bank. He also assisted in establishing Klondike Chapter #154 and St Andrew’s Preceptory #48 in Dawson, Yukon. The Preceptory was noted as the most northerly Preceptory in the British Commonwealth. With that, R E Comp Gibbs disappeared from known history. In each case, he used his unique talents to establish bodies, which he felt comfortable to leave to others for further development. He avoided the common problem reported in industry where the entrepreneur who can establish a business is not suited to manage it in the long term. Although there is a saying that no man can change Masonry, in this case we find a man who was the catalyst, to promote the revival of Royal Arch Masonry in Manitoba. The revival continued and the Grand Chapter to Manitoba, consisting of eleven Chapters was formed in 1923. Today, the Grand Chapter of Manitoba has some of the same symptoms apparent in Royal Arch Masonry in 1900. There have been several amalgamations and Chapters have gone into darkness. Membership is aging, and in many

17

cases becoming downhearted. Recruits are hard to find and the future seems bleak. Have we reached the low point? Probably not! Will we again receive a great organizer to save us again, or will we accomplish the task ourselves?

Most Excellent Companion George C Feltham, Grand First Principal 2003 Born 1 November 1939, and passed away 29 July 2003

M Ex Comp Feltham, a proud Newfoundlander, grew up and completed his education on the island. When he finished high school, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, remaining with them until retirement in 1993. He is survived by this wife Thelma, two children, two stepchildren and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his wife Victory in August 200 and his father. M Ex Comp Feltham was raised in Dominion Lodge #848 while serving in Germany. After being posted to Winnipeg, he affiliated with Starbuck Lodge #160. He served as Master of that Lodge and then became the District Deputy Grand Master of the Eight Masonic District in 1997. He was a member of the General Purposes Committee of Grand Lodge where he served on the Benevolence Committee. M Ex Comp Feltham was a member of Cyrus Council #2, R & S M, Cryptic Rite of Western Canada, served as T I M and was elected Grand Inspector General, Manitoba District for 2003. He was a member of Selkirk Conclave #2, Red Cross of Constantine. M Ex Comp Feltham joined Red River Chapter #21 (R A M) in 1990, became First Principal in 1993 and District Superintendent of District #1 in 1995/6l. At the time of his passing, he had recently been installed as the Grand First Principal of the Grand Chapter of Manitoba and had only just begun his round of official visits. Until We Meet Again.

REPORT OF BUDGET AND FINANCE

Most Excellent Sir, Distinguished East and Companions all;

With our reasonable Investment Portfolio in place, holding the line on expenses until we find out where the decline will bottom out. It’s prudent to have our Investment Income as a supplement to our Annual Returns in managing the financial affairs of Grand Chapter. Unfortunately we have a $35,000.00 G I C invested at 6.125% which matures on October 5, 2004. Reinvesting this at the present rated of 4% would reduce our income by $743.75 annually. We will monitor this situation and act accordingly, but it would take a per capita increase of $1.50 just to cover the shortfall. Postage is on the increase, paper and printing, the cost of regalia, etc are putting a strain on our finances so a per-capita increase is a fact. How much and how soon will be agenda material for the next Grand Executive meeting in October. Decisions will have to be made but our per-capita still remains the lowest in Canada. Our Grand Chapter has survived on limited Budget in the past and I am sure it will long into the future. The Holy Royal Arch will continue to be a part of the Masonic Family now and forever. Please remember we are the completion of The Master Mason Degree.

REPORT OF ROYAL ARCH RESEARCH ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE (R A R A)

Most Excellent Sir and Companions

Once again it has been my privilege to represent General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons International as Provincial Executive for Royal Arch Research Assistance, better known as R A R A here in Manitoba. I must thank our own Grand Chapter for my continued service to this committee

This past year one hundred dollars personal contribution by a member of Prince Rupert Chapter #1 was made to ensure that we at least show token support. TO date our jurisdiction has contributed $1,661.64 Regular and $145.39 Memorial contributions to R A R A.

We are doing an excellent job locally to help the less fortunate, however I implore every Royal Arch Mason in our jurisdiction to come up with just one dollar a piece before the end of this Triennium of General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International, and this would put our contributions well over the top. Let’s work together on the International scene to alleviate, correct, or assist those that have the Central Auditory Dysfunction. Remember, although not every young person is involved in crime that has this dysfunction, approximately 90% of these young people, mostly boys, that are involved in crime have a high percentage with this disorder. They can hear you, but do not receive the message as intended. I implore you to give this your most serious consideration. Painstaking progress is taking place towards assisting those that have the dysfunction. We are told that it took over 10,000 experiments to perfect the incandescent light bulb, which the news media questioned. But the inventor did not give up. He said that those were only 10,000 ways it wouldn’t work, but it will work he had stated confidently. Let us not despair of the attempts, but look to the cure, or prevention in the future. We may even be alive to see it. The scientist need our help.

Brochures and a CD are available. The writer is writing away for a CD and brochures could be ordered at the same time.

Respectfully and fraternally submitted, I move the adoption of this report. Clifford C P Hardy, PGZ. Seconded by V Ex Comp Fred Magrel Carried

REPORT OF THE GRAND EXECUTIVE MEETINGS

Two meetings were held this past year on Oct 19/03 and March 21/04. We had approximately 25 members present at each meeting. I would like to congratulate both District Superintendents, R Ex Comp Ernie Smith and R Ex Comp Ron Church on a fine job of visiting and promoting Royal Arch Masonry within their districts.

A number of letters were received from sister jurisdictions expressing regrets on the sudden death of our dear friend M Ex Comp Feltham. The usual Committee reports were received in fine form from the committee chairmen. Again, thank you to all those Chair people. Some of the more interesting discussions held this year, involved allowing R Ex Comp Cliff Hartmier to

have the Cork Degree conferred at the annual meeting of District #13. This request opened up quite a discussion, and I am happy to report that a motion was made and seconded, that any Master Mason be eligible to initiation to the Cork Degree if similar request come to us in the future. All present were in agreement. It was also requested that women be allowed to receive the Cork Degree. After a short discussion the result was – Not at this time.

Other topics brought before the Grand Executive were the Northern Trip, the wearing of R A Jewels at Craft Lodge Meetings, voting for the Philanthropic Project, and moving into the computer age and the use of Email, etc. All members of Royal Arch can attend the Grand Executive meetings held in Portage la Prairie. Once again our Ladies attended the meeting in March to make some last minute arrangements for our Grand Chapter Convocation this weekend. I would like to thank all the members who attended the Executive meetings for this input and support.
