Cosmetology is a fast-growing field that includes hair and skin care professionals, nail techni- cians, makeup artists, estheticians and salon owners. Cosmetologists can choose to work for a salon, day spa or barber shop, or to own their own salon. Is cosmetology the right career for you? - Do you have artistic talent that you like to express with hair, skin or nails? - Do you enjoy helping others look and feel great? - Are you interested in meeting different people and talking with them so that you can under- stand their needs? - Would you like to work on many different projects during a day? - Are you interested in having skills that can travel with you anywhere? If you answered “yes” to these questions, you should consider enrolling in the cosmetology pro- gram at the new Providence Career and Technical High School. This new school is one of New England’s finest technical high schools, offering students a blend of the best of a traditional high school and state-of-the-art training in a cosmetology lab. When you graduate from the cosmetology program, you will receive both a high school diploma and Rhode Island certification as a licensed cosmetologist. During a typical day studying cosmetology, you will • learn exciting and useful skills in cosmetology, including nail and skin care, hair design, make- up design and application, and safety and hygiene • learn to use new cosmetology equipment and tools that are found in the region’s best salons • work with mentors and advisors from the cosmetology field • attend regular academic classes to prepare for college or technical school • enjoy Providence School District’s newest high school, including indoor athletic facilities, stu- dent lounges, a student-run restaurant, and a multimedia student auditorium • participate in student clubs and activities or play on athletic teams • use laptop computers and other new technology in Providence’s first completely wireless public high school • work toward completion of the 1,500 training and practice hours necessary for Rhode Island Board certification For more information about our cosmetology program, and to learn how you can become part of one of the first classes to attend this exciting new high school, call 401-456-0686 or e-mail [email protected], or see your guidance counselor.
