Summary

Performs various administrative duties and general office procedures. Knowledge of GIS/GPS systems would be an asset.

Summary The Communications Officer is responsible for: The development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of an effective communications strategy and system; Ensuring that all communications material is approved and available to meet specific predetermined deadlines; Initiating and maintaining contact with the media; The preparation of brochures, reports, newsletters and other communications materials; and All administrative functions in respect of the Communications Program. Basic Requirements A Degree in Journalism with at least one year of experience in a journalistic or communications working environment; OR A Diploma in Journalism with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a journalistic capacity; Excellent grasp of the English language, both in oral and in written form; Possess a high level of Public Relations skills; Computer skills at the Advanced Level in MS Office 2010 including Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Access, Outlook and Visio; also Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop and Internet Explorer, etc.; Experience in webmaster development, including website development and maintenance; Valid Driver’s License and access to a dependable vehicle on demand; Ability to operate electronic equipment such as video camera, 35mm camera and digital camera. Position Title: Site Coordinator Tenure: June 15, 2017 to November 30, 2017 Remuneration: $18.00 per hour Hours of Work: Flexible including evening & weekends Hours Per Week: 35 Reports to: Operations Manager or designate of the Board of Directors Deadline for Applications: Wednesday, June 7, 2017 Job Location: Ottawa, Ontario DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the responsibility of the Site Coordinator will be to oversee the coordination of activities and day-to-day operations of the Indigenous Pavilion on Victoria Island.

RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this position.

The Site Coordinator will:

Represent and promote OP, the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the Indigenous Pavilion in a positive and proactive manner;

Coordinate and ensure professional standards are met for external presentations, educational and entertainment requests;

Assist the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Indigenous Pavilion and ensure accountability in their absence;

Monitor and update Social Media

Maintain inventory of artists work;

Contribute to raising awareness of OP and its programs;

Supervise summer students;

Create manageable schedules for staff for approval by the Operations Manager;

Attend and assist with classes and/or functions coordinated by OP as designated;

Provide Pavilion tours and complete cashier duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a post-secondary diploma in a related field, such as Office Administration, Native Studies, Tourism and/or a related field; and/or the equivalent 3 years’ experience in any of the listed fields;

3-5 years related experience;

Excellent organizational skills (oral and written) and the ability to excel at details, multi-tasking and to safely and effectively work under pressure;

Previous experience with a not-for-profit, boards and committees is considered an asset;

Must possess excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making skills and conflict resolution skills;

Must have the ability to prioritize and demonstrate experience in all aspects of budget process;

Must have retail and cash handling experience;

Computer literacy is required, particularly with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation development and internet applications;

Must be willing to occasionally work in a dusty area (i.e. basement)

Must be able to travel when required and have a current, valid driver’s license, accessible transportation and appropriate insurance;

Must have current CPR and First Aid and/or willing to take the training;

Must be able to work a flexible schedule and weekends when required;

Must provide a current vulnerable sector check.

The Algonquin Way Cultural Centre is seeking a qualified individual to clean the Heritage building & Museum. The successful individual must be bondable and provide a clean C-PIC – Vulnerable Sector Scan. It is expected that the selected individual will work within regular business hours.
