THE RAP PROJECT
The Rap Project (aka TRP) is a weekly hip hop variety show that features a balanced view of urban entertainment. On TRP you can expect exciting performances and topical conversations with premier artists, business leaders, political and social activists. Many have likened The Rap Project as the urban styled counterpart to the revered Charlie Rose Show and Inside The Actors Studio. The founder and host’s thinks of it simply as “PBS on Hip Hop.”
Guests and listeners alike proclaim that The Rap Project is a smart combination of music, entertainment, fun and conversation not heard or seen on traditional or commercial media outlets. Thus returning hip hop to its roots of part public service announcement, part fun and part culture, without forsaking new trends in the music. The Rap Project is for true rap fanatics and the casual listener alike.
Founded in September 2010, The Rap Project airs exclusively on the multimedia internet station LA Talk Live! Radio, based in Los Angeles, CA. TRP, now a veteran show on the network began in the spare room of the station’s founder and is now a leader amongst the forty shows that span daily. With nearly 5 million monthly viewers/listeners, LA Talk Live! Radio is a growing success in this entertainment medium. Since its inception The Rap Project has grown exponentially, garnering a diverse audience that is quickly approaching one million per month.
The Rap Project Show has since spawned a myriad of opportunities, in artist management, concert promotion in Europe and a multitude of screenplays.
ABOUT THE HOST
Derrick D. Bracks aka “Dbraxx”, a Southern Boy from Atlanta, GA moved to Chicago, IL in the mid 1990’s with big dreams of becoming a Stock Broker. Those visions became more of a reality when he landed his first job at the investment management firm Stein, Roe & Farnham, ranking as one of the great turning points of his life. He continued to excel at other top companies and roles ranging from an Invest-ment Team Leader, Sales Executive to Fixed Income Trader.
While in the Midwest he also advanced his education by taking evening classes to earn an MBA with a concentration in Finance & Marketing. In 2004, his outlooked changed after attending his first National Black MBA Association Conference in Houston, TX. Soon thereafter he was hired by a Swiss Wealth Management firm to be relocated to their Beverly Hills location. After almost ten years, his life in the Windy City had come to a close in 2005.
A career in the budding field of internet media was not in the cards for DBraxx, so he thought. An innocent conversation with a friend about participating in a DJ class as a hobby evolved into a meeting with the LA Talk Live! Radio Founder, Richard Karr. On the same day DBraxx saw a PBS interview with Tavis Smiley and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. From these seemingly unconnected events, The Rap Project was born. Long passionate about the art of rap and the culture of hip hop music since his childhood, DBraxx feels he was destined to try his hand at being a part of this eclectic, multibillion dollar industry.

The Rap Project was created to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the hip hop generation and community-at-large. Hip hop has grown from it’s birthplace of New York City, USA to expand all across all regions of America and the world. This art form continues to evolve, creating a new wave of hip hoppas, building upon all that has come before musically and lyrically. Not only has hip hop survived and flourished in the world of entertainment but it also continues to serve as a lightning rod and catalyst for many political, social and spiritual forces that have transformed lives on every continent.
The Rap Project focuses on the music, art, culture in the world of hip hop as a means to bring together diverse cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. On The Rap Project you will find a variable who’s who of guest from a variety of industries that bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of their craft.
