The parish office will be closed Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day.

Please accept my sincere appreciation for your prayers and support. I feel very blessed that the St. Maximilian parish held an extraordinary celebration and party for me on my 30th anni-versary of my priestly ordination last Saturday. It was beyond my expectation. May God bless you for your kindness and generosity! As I have mentioned before, I am taking a four-month sabbatical in order to spend some ex-tra time for my spiritual renewal and be able to do some mission work in Vietnam. I will be back to St. Maximilian in October just in time for the Fall Festival! I will miss the dedication of the new building which should be completed, as scheduled, by the end of July/August. Inside the building, there will be a big food pantry room and two offic-es for the ministry. There will be a big room in the back for our youth and an office for our Youth Director. The Food Pantry Ministry will be dedicated in memory of Deacon Auburn Higgins, which is possible through a donation by his daughter Mary Lynn and her husband, Ted Cortez and their family. The youth room will be a place for our young people to meet along with hosting mini-retreats, youth activities and to be a place where they can support one another. Father Michael and Father Ignatius will be here with the parish community while I am away and also to dedicate the building when it is ready! I also have more good news to share with you. A group of religious sisters, the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Mercy from Nigeria, have been attending Mass on the weekends here at St. Maximilian with us. They live within our parish boundaries. We are blessed to have Sister Vinflora I. Onije joining our parish staff as the Pastoral Assistant. Sister Vinflora will coordi-nate pastoral care for the community: ministering to the homebound, nursing homes, the sick, assisting at funerals and be the Master Sacristan. If you or someone in your family is sick, ill or becomes too weak to attend Mass, please call the parish office and let Sister Vin-flora know. She will be able to arrange to have Holy Communion brought to you. When you are healthy you come to us, and when you are not able to come to church, we come to you! God is Good!

Please welcome Father Ron Mrozinski who will speak at all the Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link between parish-es in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Please be generous in your response to Father’s appeal. Brochures will be provided if you wish to support this worthy Catholic ministry.

OUR PARISH MISSION

We are the Christian Community of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Embracing our many and diverse gifts, we are united in Christ Jesus. Challenged by the teachings of Our Lord, and inspired by the example of our Patron, we strive to serve God, and to minister to others, in prayer, sacrament, faith formation, and charity.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 26, 2019

THE GIFT OF PEACE “There arose no little dissension and debate.” Did that happen at work this week? Most of us can recall run-ins with coworkers, even with the boss. Did it happen while socializing with friends? Go easy on politics, religion . . . even sports. At home? Even the most peaceful household experiences a little “give and take” now and then. So where was it that “there arose no little dissension and debate”? That tumultuous conflict occurred among our first Christian ancestors, disrupting the community life of the early church. But today’s Acts of the Apostles shows how beautifully the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus in today’s Gospel, helped the church achieve a grace-filled resolution. What evolved was that “reconciled di-versity,” often encouraged by Pope Francis and even envisioned in today’s Revelation pas-sage; and a wondrous experience of Jesus’ promised Gospel gift: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Upcoming Marriage Encounter Weekend Being held at St. Maximilian Kolbe June 21 – 23, 2019 Early Bird Special www.houstonme.org Apply before June 1st with the registration code STMAX2019 and you will receive 50% off the registration fee for a total cost of $50!

The following article is from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston: In recent months, there have been numerous reports in Texas of individuals impersonating a parish priest and soliciting donations – normally in the form of gift cards – from members of their con-gregation. In an effort to minimize the impact of these fraudulent actions, parishes are en-couraged to remind parishioners that priests/churches would never make such appeals to the parish community. Please notify the parish office immediately if you should receive any unfamiliar donation requests. We ask that you particularly keep this in mind as Father John is on sabbatical.

That Man is You! The summer program kicks off every Friday with a “Break the Fast” full, hot breakfast. We will start a 12 week series called Genesis to Jesus. Breakfast at 5:30am in Kolbe Hall, followed by a video and small group discus-sion. All men are welcome. Call or text Tom Comstock at 281-380-0403 for more information.

Are you registered at St. Maximilian Kolbe? It is im-portant to register as a member of a parish so we can better serve the needs of all our parishioners. To reg-ister, pick up a registration packet in the Narthex of the Church or come by the parish office.

St Maximilian has many Adult Faith programs to help you grow in your knowledge of the faith and come closer to Jesus Christ.

Adult Faith will be offering 33 Days to Morning Glory again starting in August in anticipation of consecra-tion to Jesus through Mary on the feast of Mary’s birthday, September 8th. Even if you have done this study before, it may be worthwhile to revisit and invite a friend. Mike Watkins will be leading this study. There are many excellent reasons to do this study as a group, but it can also be done as a home study.

Adult Faith’s next offering is Moving in Mysterious Ways. This short series of presentations will deal with the Holy Spirit. Who is He? How does he act in our lives? We will also discuss the gifts, fruits and char-isms that infuse our lives through Him. The final session will celebrate His gift to us in the birth of the Church on Pentecost, June 9th. Sessions are in Room 215 at 6pm on Sunday evenings—tonight—May 26th, June 2nd and concluding on June 9th. This series will be co-facilitated by Molly Smith and Domenica Weir.

Feel free to contact Molly Smith in the parish office with future study requests.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS That the next time worry, anxiety or fear enters our life, trust that God has a better plan in store for you. “…do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27) Our limited human understanding cannot begin to understand the immense power of God. Instead of trusting in God, we think we can control every outcome. Do you want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. The next time worry, anxiety or fear creeps in, thank God for all He has given you and trust that He has a better plan for you.

We want to give our children what we didn’t have; but let’s make sure we give them what we did have: our faith. ~Anonymous
