Special thanks go to Bill for his outstanding management and I am sure that this had a lot to do with the ease with which the morning ran. That evening, about a dozen members and part- ners went to the first of hopefully many “Happy Hours” at the Glenelg Football Club. It was a good night and highlighted the need for us to meet more frequently for some social ban- ter. Thank you to Bronwyn for organizing this. I would like to urge all members to to get active with raffle ticket sales and wine orders so that our cash flow will allow us to participate in some of the funding requests that are being made to our club. At our recent Group 8 meeting, we were reminded of the need for all members to pay their subs to ensure that they are covered by our insurance at functions that we hold. If there is a problem with payment, please talk to Brenton or myself to en- sure that we are all covered. Have a good week and I will see all those who can make it on Tuesday morning. Mike Rotary Polio Ute Relay On Tuesday morning last, we welcomed Group 8 Assistant Governor Dini Whyte who advised us that the Rotary “End Polio Now” Utility will be in our area on 17, 18 and 19 October as part of its publicity trek around the country. It will be travelling from Broken Hill on the 16th, be located at the Glenelg Rotary Club’s BBQ at Coles Glenelg on Saturday 17th, at the Marion Market on Sunday 18th and at the Rotary Club of Ewardstown Book Shop on Monday 19th before moving on out of our area. We as a club are encouraged to support these events and we will be issued with some raffle books as part of the fundraising associated with the relay. These raffle books are not to be confused with our own!

Previous Meetings

We had an interesting meeting on 25 August whenTrevor Andrew talked about some of the happeningsin his life, good and bad, and of his involvement in Ro-tary.He was born in South Australia, attended Prince AlfredCollege although that was interrupted briefly while hetravelled to Britain with his parents when in his midteens. His first employer was Southern Farmers where hewas nominated by his boss for a Rotary Group StudyExchange Team. That didn’t eventuate but he laterjoined the Rotary Club of Flagstaff Hill in 1978 and afew years later became President of that club.He met his wife, Rosslyn at a Red Cross younger setfunction and he married at age 22.Trevor spoke of his family living in Sydney, Melbourneand Perth. He has 10 grandchildren including tripletgranddaughters and visits them all frequently. His wife Rosslyn was killed in a car crash in 2001 andis now partner of Ruth.Trevor joined the Rotary Club of Somerton Park in2004, has been President of our club and remainsactively involved in club affairs.

Our meeting on 1 September was scheduled as ClubAssembly but with so many Directors away, that partwas fairly brief.A more comprehensive summary of the most recentboard minutes will be published in the Bulletin at alater date.

We had as Guest Speaker, Anh Caprile, a young Rota-ractor who we sponsored to attend a Rotaract PeaceConference in Canberra earlier this year.Anh is a member of the Sturt Rotaract Club and wouldlike to remain linked to the Rtary Club of SomertonPark.

Jim Parkins reminded members that wine ordersare now being taken for delivery after labelling on30 October.Jim also reminded members who have volunteeredof the fundraising BBQ at Bunnings, Marion, on thisFriday 11 September.Brenley commented that he attended a concert atBrighton Secondary School recently as part of afarewell to Geoffrey Kong and was enormously im-pressed by the professional quality of the perform-ances.
