WEEKLY MEETING

A splendid attendance for such a grotty morning. Paul-ine looked resplendent in her Rotary Exchange blazer and guests AG Sarah and husband Bill, and host parents Margaret and Daryl Wise swelled the numbers. Don duly and correctly led us in a toast to the people of Belgium and then a toast to Australia.

Carolyn welcomed all and noted apologies from Bron-wyn and Rosalien. She added a heartfelt thanks for all the support and encouragement she had received dur-ing her year.

Brenley MC’d some brief reports, firstly from himself. We have one NYSF candidate who looks good and has been supported to the next stage in the selection pro-cess. He also noted that RYLA was opening soon.

Phil mentioned the coming BBQ at Lifelinks this coming Friday. Volunteers raised their hands, hoping no doubt that the weather might have changed.

Linda noted that we have three more BBQs at Harvey Nor-man and conveyed her thanks to Barb and John Y for all their support and good work. She mentioned that in future for safety’s sake that there needed to be two people pre-sent at all activities associated with the BBQ, including the beginning and end of the activity. She also mentioned the Cabaret (see ad) coming in August, the Royal Adelaide Show and that we are still in liaison mode with Patritti's.

Pam for International mentioned the coming illuminate event.

Mike the money man informed us that the receipts from the last HN BBQ were being donated to RYWELL. Subs re-main the same for the coming Rotary year and we spent pretty close to what we took during the year. Closing bal-ances were approximately $4000 in the Service A/C and $7000 in the Project A/C.

Brenley challenged the technically challenged among us with the information that Google calendar was on our web-site and could be synced to insert club events into our elec-tronic calendars.

Finally to Pauline, who gave us a wonderful PowerPoint supported tour of her year. She began with an outline of Belgium—geography, cultural features, famous places , her family and her home. She then moved on to her Exchange time in Australia and covered her host families, her educa-tional ventures and specially her time at USC, her involve-ment in RCSP activities, some photos of Aussie culture with Vegemite at the centre, which she confessed to not liking! We next heard about fellow exchange students, the wildlife including her favourite the kookaburra, her 18th birthday and Cavalia, her Rotary District 9520 activities including Lameroo, Calperum and the Conference at Warrnambool (she is taking George Clooney home with her by the way!). Next was a warm and sunny Christmas, the envy of friends back home, and trips including KI, Melrose, Sydney, Victor Harbor and Granite Island and of course the highlight trip Rock to Reef.

Amid both sadness and laughter members all signed a splendid pictorial book about Australia each with comment expressing appreciation for her stay and best wishes for the future.

President’s Paragraph

A good number of Rotarians at my last Club Assembly on Tuesday morning and also a final farewell to our Belgian Ex-change student Pauline Decroix. Pauline gave an outstanding presentation of her time with us and it looks like she has seen a lot more of Australia than a great many of us. We will definitely miss her and wish

her well in everything that she chooses to do. We have the Changeover Dinner this Saturday evening and with all the winter weather that we have had and are ex-pecting more, hopefully we wont be blown in or have to swim in to the venue which is on the foreshore! Thank you to the Club and my Board who have been so sup-portive over the year and as I have said before, to a Club who while being involved in the Community continues to have meetings that are both fun and informative. The Four Way Test

Of The Things We Think, Say or Do:

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all Concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Dear Rotarians,

Sadly, my exchange in

Australia has come to

an end. On Friday morn-

ing, I will be flying back

to Belgium with a lot of

amazing memories of

my beautiful second

home, Australia.

Almost a year ago, it was a bit overwhelming to travel

across the world to live in a country I had never been to,

not knowing what to expect. It is even harder having to

leave after such a wonderful year. I have been wel-

comed by a lovely family of Rotarians, I have made

many great friends and I have grown and learn so much

from many experiences. My exchange in Australia was-

n't a year in a lifetime, but a lifetime in a year.

Thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity, wel-

coming me into your Club and homes, and for sup-

porting me through the fantastic year that has been my

exchange. Thank you to those who were able to come

to my farewell party last Sunday and to our meeting this

morning for my final presentation, and thank you for

offering me this beautiful Australian book, as a farewell

present. I really appreciate all the things you did for me

and I will miss you all very much. Please do not hesitate

to send me an email and keep in touch, my email ad-

dress is

[email protected].

This is not a goodbye be-

cause I will be back in

Australia as soon as I can,

so as we say here.. See ya

mate ! Pauline
