Claudia talked about how important the image we project is because peo- ple make subconscious decisions about you in the first 10 seconds based on their inial impressions, She also talked about the importance of delivering a consistent impression or image. We can all take something from that, as can our club if we want to promote ourselves within our community and aract new members. Thanks to all who have braved some very cold and chilly morn-ings these last 2 weeks to attend. Our guest speaker last week, Claudia Chavez provided us with some interesting and valuable insights into promoting one's brand, whether it be the organi-zation you work under or your own personal image. Claudia talked about how important the image we project is because peo-

ple make subconscious decisions about you in the first 10 seconds based on their initial impressions, She also talked about the importance of delivering a consistent impression or image. We can all take something from that, as can our club if we want to promote ourselves within our community and attract new members. In terms of our club's public image, we have some excellent resources available through the brand center at My Rota-ry for creating publications and delivering a consistent Rotary brand; now we have to simply get out there and be seen.

As I discussed at this weeks club assembly, I would like to look for more opportunities this year to engage with and serve our local community, especially where there is a broad community appeal to help raise our profile. We should be looking at all opportunities to promote our message in the local media such as newsletters, newspa-pers and radio wherever possible. Every time we hand over a cheque, help someone in need or donate goods we need to be taking photos, posting to social media and generally making sure the wider community knows about us. If we get a consistent message out there and people know what we do, then getting new members should be easier. Brenley

On the 15th July we heard Claudia Chavez who spoke

to us on personal and corporate imaging. She explained

the importance of the first impression and the seven

seconds in which it is established.

Club Assembly on 22nd July brought succinct reports

from all directors, some of which are published in this

bulletin.

Club Bulletin

Youth and Vocation Committee Report to the Club Assembly 22/7/14 This year the Committee recommends that where possible, the Club supports Rotary’s youth projects including the Health of the River Forum, RYDA, RYLA, RYPEN, RYWELL and NYSF. As always, the difficulty will be to source school teachers who will take an interest and provide an introduction to suit-able students to attend Rotary’s youth programs. We have written to the schools in our area seeking interest in the Health of the River Forum to be held at Calperum Sta-tion from 9 to 12 October, 2014. The next Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) residential seminar for 18-25 year olds will be held from 27 September, 2014 to 3 October, 2014 at Nunyara Conference Centre, Belair. Please advise if you know of any young adults who may be interested in this excellent and worthwhile program. Our NYSF candidate should know in the near future if she has been successful in obtaining a place to attend the Forum to be held in January 2015. Anh Caprile, a University of Adelaide Masters of Business Law student, has been nominated by the University to attend the 5th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Cambodia. We have provided her with $250 as a contribu-tion towards her costs to attend. She recently attended Dis-trict 9500’s RYLA residential seminar, will be joining the Uni-versity’s Rotaract Club and is interested in starting an Inter-act Club at Mercedes College. On her return from the Sym-posium, she will talk to our Club to share her experiences both in Cambodia and RYLA. The President of the Flinders University Rotaract Club suggested to her that she contact us seeking support. As that Rotaract Club is in our District, it may be a source of applicants for future Rotary projects. Brenton Aird Director Youth and Vocation Committee
