The night was very successful with 99 being the official aendance which included members and some partners from the Rotary Clubs of Brighton, Ed- wardstown, Glenelg, Holdfast Bay and Somerton Park. The guest speaker was Kieran Murphy who gave us an amazing story of courage and determinaon in the face of adversity delivered with a liberal dose of humour that kept the audience engaged and enter- tained. We heard how Kieran has 5% vision and was diag- nosed at 18 months old with a condion that would eventually make him completely blind. He takes each day as it comes, knowing that tomorrow he could be completely blind. The doctors had told him he would be totally blind by the age of 12 but he has defied the odds to retain 5% limited vision now at the age of 22. His lifelong dream has been to represent Australia at the Paralympic Games and up unl recently he had been trying to do this through swimming. He trialled for the last Para Olympics team and just missed mak- ing the team for the visually impaired by less than a second. Aſter many years of gruelling training regimes in the swimming pool Kieran took a step back to re- evaluate his goals and decided to do a complete change to cycling. He is now teamed up with a visual cyclist (known as the pilot) and will trial for the next Para Olympics as a cyclist. The training is no less rigorous with daily 3 hour training sessions that can involve riding to Victor Harbour and back. We fell one short of 100 peo- ple in aendance which made for an enjoyable evening and I would like to thank President Wayne Hoban and his team for hosng an enjoyable even- ing and a great speaker in Kieran Murphy. I was reminded last week of how important it is to be aware of those around us and how they are feel- ing when one our members stood up and admied they had been suffering from depression. I admire them for their bravery in standing up in front of all of us and leng us know how what they are going through, and I know our members will make sure they get the support they need. Having lost a close relave last year to depression and seeing the dev- astaon it caused those around them, it is impossi- ble to not look back and consider if we had asked if they were ok at that me, would things have gone differently. It costs us nothing to ask someone "Are you ok?, Can I help out?" and give a lile of your me to listen if someone's in need. This week we had a meeting of all the group 8 clubs in lieu of our normal Tuesday morning meeting at the Somerton Surf Lifesaving Club hosted by Holdfast Bay. Monday 11th May—Group Eight Meeting

It's been great to continue to see good numbers at our meetings the last couple of weeks despite some very cold and wet mornings, so thanks to all our members who have made the effort to brave the conditions to get there - it has made for some good meetings and fellowship. It was great also this week to see such a good turnout to

the Group 8 meeting. We fell one short of 100 peo-ple in attendance which made for an enjoyable evening and I would like to thank President Wayne Hoban and his team for hosting an enjoyable even-ing and a great speaker in Kieran Murphy. I was reminded last week of how important it is to be aware of those around us and how they are feel-ing when one our members stood up and admitted they had been suffering from depression. I admire them for their bravery in standing up in front of all of us and letting us know how what they are going through, and I know our members will make sure they get the support they need. world champions. Kieran told us he had to make up 3 seconds to make the cut for the next Para-lympics and was confident he could get there since he has only been cycling for a year. He also explained the high costs involved now in purchas-ing the necessary equipment to compete - at least $15,000 for a tandem bicycle including spe-cial pedals that measure the power the rider is delivering to the wheels. He works full time as the coordinator of swimming training at Marion and most of his wage goes into funding his cycling committments, with little or no government fund-ing available for paralympic athletes. Kieran over-all has an amazing outlook on life and his venture into comedy to highlight how he deals with his disability as well as breaking new boundaries, was truly inspiring.

On Sunday, our students and their families had a great time at the Morphett Vale Miniature Rail-way. The Somerton Park Rotary Club organised and sponsored the day including a yummy sau-sage sizzle. Our students loved riding on the trains and enjoyed face painting with Leanne Martin. It was a great opportunity for families to get together and enjoy the perfect weather. Many thanks to the Somerton Park Rotary Club for a lovely day.

Tutti Mothers Day Morning Tea 6/5/15 at the Glenelg Club Pam, Bron, Marianne, Tiffany, myself and another Pam (a friend of Marianne's) attended this Tutti Fundraiser representing our club. Raylene Aird, Sue Stevens and Kathy White also supported the day with some of their friends. Jane Doyle was excellent as the MC with the two highlights being interviews with Gillian Hicks the London bombing survivor and peace campaigner and songs performed by The Sisters of Invention (the Tutti singers). There was a fashion parade by "Who I Choose To Be" with our own Carolyn Lelliott modelling, a silent auction, raffle, table prizes and a gift from the table sponsor for each person. Tutti raised $11,000 from this event and were thrilled with this result. Pam Maxwell presented a donation from our club to Pat Rix from Tutti and had the opportunity to speak briefly about our club. The donation was from funds raised at our last Bunnings BBQ. A very enjoyable day was had by all. Barb

Helping Hand Project at Colonnades

Helping Hand Days On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday several members from the Rotary Clubs of Noarlunga, Noarlunga East and Hallett Cove spent time at the Colonnades Shopping Centre assembling prosthetic hands and promoting Rotary. Linda in her role as the coordinator for this project gave up her time over the whole three days to supervise this activity. Well done Linda.
