Dear Potential Sponsor2
Dear Potential Corporate Sponsor
On behalf of the student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at The Ohio State University, we would like to invite you to become one of our company sponsors as we enter the 2019-2020 academic year. We strive to continue to have a positive impact on not only our members, but our local and national communities as well.
Our sponsorship packet outlines our events and goals for this upcoming year and is a means of informing you on different ways you and your company can partner with our chapter. SHPE at OSU will have various opportunities for corporate involvement and sponsorship this year, such as: professional development workshops, national and regional conferences, student and professional socials, and outreach programs. Sponsors have priority scheduling for all our programs and activities, thus increasing exposure to our chapter, its members, the College of Engineering, and The Ohio State University.
Locally and nationally recognized, SHPE at OSU has proven to be an outstanding organiza-tion to its sponsors and its community. SHPE at OSU has been recognized by The Ohio State University and the College of Engineering as one of the most influential and diverse STEM related organizations. The 2018 and 2019 Diversity, Enhancement, and Inclusion Awards were awarded to SHPE at OSU by the College of Engineering for our organization’s remarkable engagement with minority students in a means of promoting diversity within the entire OSU community. In addition to this, SHPE at OSU was also awarded the 2018 Outstanding Stu-dent Organization Award which is given to only the best organizations as a reward for the academic excellence and leadership spirit its members portray on a daily basis. This award also celebrates the organization’s commitment to serve its community and boost its members’ professional development. For the past 5 years SHPE at OSU has consecutively been awarded the Regional Blue Chip Award from SHPE National as a representation that our chapter helps grow and enrich its members through academic, chapter, professional, and leadership devel-opment, as well as community outreach.
An investment in SHPE at OSU will help us mold a means for members to develop both per-sonally, professionally, and academically while establishing an ongoing relationship with your company. Who We AreOriginally named CHEA, Council of Hispanics in Engineering and Architec-ture, and afterwards OHSEA, Organization of Hispanics Students in Engineer-ing and Architecture, it was not until 2003 that SHPE became official by its name, the Society of Hispanic and Professional Engineers.
Since its inception, SHPE has worked closely with the Office of Diversity, Out-reach and Inclusion in the College of Engineering, and has collaborated with other university units in order to provide members with the best resources for their academic, professional, and personal development. This has allowed our members to experience a wide range of activities such as resume building workshops, tours of local engineering companies, and networking with engi-neering recruiters throughout various companies.
As a cultural organization, the chapter has maintained an atmosphere of pride in heritage and acceptance of people from all backgrounds. SHPE at OSU has also made significant progress in its community through outreach programs such as STEM Challenge, Dia de Ciencias and our Holiday Toy Drive. SHPE at OSU is developing and succeeding all while continuing to look for ways to fulfill the SHPE mission by changing the lives of Hispanic individuals through STEM fields.

Detailed Calender EventsGeneral Body Meetings
General body meetings are held bi-weekly and are used to relay updates to members and host company workshops. The workshops would run between 1 hour to 1.5 hour in length; in the past some topics covered included: business etiquette, interview prep, case study practice, internship/full-time opportunities, tech talks, and more. Sponsors would be advertised before, throughout and after the meeting through social media.
Who Should Participate
Our socials are a way for students to get know each other and bond outside of their academics while building a community among the
chapter. Socials can range from intramural sports, restaurant outings, arts and crafts, game nights, zoo visits and more. Some company sponsors also have the opportunity to create their own socials with the students.
Although our socials are catered to our students we also have profession-al Happy Hours open to students (21+), staff, faculty and of course our
industry partners which gives our members the opportunity to informally network and get to know our professionals
*Disclaimer: Sponsorship money will not be utilized to purchase alcoholic beverages.
Networking Brunch
This event will take place on the weekend before the Ohio State Fall Engineering Expo. This is an opportunity for our
members to learn how to present themselves and network in a professional setting. During this event, members and spon-
sors will share ideas and make connections while enjoying a Saturday Brunch. Our event includes resume reviews, speed
networking, elevator pitch practice and a Q&A panel.

Our Holiday Toy Drive Fiesta raises awareness about the struggles fami-lies may experience, specifically during the Holiday Season. We host an evening of raffles, games, and contests for our attendees. Admission to the event is a monetary donation or a new, unwrapped toy. We invite not only students and staff from the University but professionals and local community members to attend the celebrations. The funds and proceeds previously have gone to the Ohio Hispanic Coalition for their traditional cultural celebration of Three Kings Day. However, this year we are looking to expand and partner with other Hispanic Organizations in Columbus in efforts to create multiple partnerships within the greater Columbus Community that coordinate with SHPE’s mission to improve
Hispanic communities through access, support, and development.

SHPE at OSU will be collaborating with the Society of Women En-gineers and the National Society of Black Engineers to host our second annual etiquette luncheon. This event is a way for students to become more aligned and accustomed to proper table man-ners as meals are a common part of both the job search process and working with clients in the business world. During this event, students will learn proper dining etiquette led by an etiquette con-sultant who will teach students how to leave a favorable impres-
sion when in a professional environment.

The 2016-2017 Executive Board created the MentorSHPE Pro-gram which is an interactive, personal, and effective way to en-sure the success of individuals seeking to grow in their education, careers, and personal life. Mentors will receive training to guide younger students to become familiar with our campus, aid them in planning a tentative schedule of courses for each semester, and provide advice to gain skills, perspective, and experience to
be successful.

SHPE National has gone through a re-branding of the entire organi-zation. Due to this, SHPE at OSU is required to follow new branding conditions which means we must purchase new marketing material in order to align with the national organization as a whole. We will be purchasing a new banner which will be displayed at all SHPE events and general recruiting events. We will also be purchasing SHPE at OSU polos which will be worn by our members at our pro-
fessional geared events.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, SHPE at OSU hosts Día de Ciencias (Day of Sciences). The purpose of hosting this event is to spread STEM awareness to high school students who might not have considered furthering their education by following a STEM path. Stu-dents are introduced to our industry partners who present career op-portunities in STEM and help us lead various workshops throughout the day. One of the unique elements to Dia de Ciencas is that this day is also for our attendees parents. We provide college readiness workshops in both English and Spanish. This is a way for parents to understand what the college application process entails. We touch on standardized testing (SAT/ACT), the common application, finan-cial aid and other resources that can assist in funding their children’s college education. The workshops are kept up to date from the help of the college’s Diversity Recruitment team and the Latinx Space for
Enrichment and Research (LASER).
This is SHPE at OSU’s largest outreach event where we travel out to the greater Columbus community and provide middle school students with further exposure to the engineering field. This past spring we partnered with the National Society of Black Engineers to expand our activities and reach out to a wider range students.
The middle school students partake in hands-on engineering activities related to a multitude of engineering disciplines. This gives a more in-depth understanding as to what engineering is all about and gives students an opportunity to speak with current engineering students and company volunteers about
what college and professional work is like. SHPE at OSU allows company sponsors the opportunity to organize their own events
for the children as well.

This is the largest Hispanic technical and career convention in the nation. It brings students and corporations together to share innovative ideas, talents, and career opportunities. SHPE at OSU has found this convention to be incredibly valuable and has been able to send students to this convention every year thanks to the help of our corporate sponsors. In 2019, the SHPE National Con-vention will be held in Phoneix, Arizona. Members attend one of a kind workshops over academic and professional development, network with professionals/corporate representatives, and seek employment at a career fair that features over 300 participants. Our members participate in full force and make their presence felt among the multitude of attendees from all over the nation.
During the convention select attendees compete in design competitions such as the 24-hour Extreme Engineering Design
competition and Hackathons.
SHPE National Convention
SHPE stages 7 regional leadership development conferences on a yearly basis for the leadership of the SHPE student chapters to im-prove their organizational, managerial, and technical skills. RLDC is also where chapters who have excelled during the academic year are awarded and are recognized for their achievements. This past Spring, SHPE at OSU was awarded the Region 6 Blue Chip Award for successfully implementing SHPE’s five pillars: Academic Devel-opment, Chapter Development, Community Outreach, Leadership
Development, and Professional Development.
Regional Leadership Development Conference
For over 30 years, the National Institute for Leadership Advancement (NILA) has been SHPE’s premier program for developing its members into relevant, responsible, and skilled leaders to ensure that Hispanics are represented as influential and capable drivers in the STEM work-force, the Hispanic community, and the nation. NILA is designed to teach and inspire newly-elected students and professional chapter
executive board members with the resources for leadership and chap-ter development. SHPE’s leaders enable program success at the local, regional, and national levels, supporting SHPE’s national strategy and
mission: an empowered Hispanic community that realizes its fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access,
support, and development. This year corporate sponsors are helping to send two officers from our chapter to attend NILA which will be
held in Phoenix, Arizona.

This event provides a study space for both quiet and group studying in or-der for students to reach their academic goals. Meals and snacks are always pro-vided to students to promote student wellness during the stress of exams and other crucial deadlines . Students of all majors are able to attend and de-stress at study tables. This year we plan to have themed weekly study tables in efforts to bring some excitement to our students. Apart from our eeekly, midterm and finals study tables- SHPE will be leading univer-sity wide study tables for Latinx students alongside organizations represented within UCLO (University Council of Latinx Organizations).
The SHPE at OSU chapter promotes ac-ademic excellence and rewards active
membership within the chapter. Schol-arships are awarded to four outstanding
