Page 2: St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church · St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church PO Box 299 – 1523 Main Street, ... We could spend a life-time meditating on this central and deep truth

Message from the desk of the Pastor

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Every year Jewish families and friends gathered together to share a meal which celebrated the Passover when they remembered how God had freed them from slavery in Egypt.

At the Last Supper Jesus shared a loaf of bread and a cup of wine with his friends. He changed the bread and wine into his own Body and Blood, to nourish them with its life-giving power. Just as our bodies need nourishment to live so do our souls.

What happens when we celebrate the mass together? At our celebration of the Eucharist, which means “thanksgiving,” we remember the meal which Jesus shared with his friends the night before he died.

Jesus said, “I am the Bread of life,” and when we share in the Eucharistic meal, we share life with the Son of God himself. We are indeed blessed in having the great gift of Jesus in the Eucharist. We could spend a life-time meditating on this central and deep truth that Jesus has taught and left to his Church.

The Eucharist and the sacrament of Holy Orders are so very close.

The priest is ordained to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist. From the time of Christ, priest are ordained with the power to consecrate the Eucharist. Consecration is only possible through the hands of a validly ordained priest. Today, we offer our collection for the training of our future priests at St. Mary’s Seminary. We are seeing more young men respond to God’s call and as a community of faith we support and pray for these candidates. They represent our future. Our bishop requests that we be generous in our collection today so that we can continue to provide for the formation and education of our seminarians. I urge you to be generous to this very excellent work.

May God bless you and all of us with dedicated and holy priests.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph

Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will res-cue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledg-es my name. He will call on me, and I will an-

swer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalms 91:14-16

This verse is very important to re-member. It is for those who need reassurance that God is with them. He sees us when we are hurting and when we are filled with joy. God knows what we are going to say even before we say it. In times of trouble, all you have to do is call out to Him and God will answer your prayers. He is telling you that he’s got this and you don't have to worry about a thing. God loves you very much.

Baby Bottle Boomerang Update The Baby Bottle Boomerang 2016 fundraiser for the Pregnancy Help Center and Safe Haven Ma-ternity Home continues. While we are in the returning stage of

the drive, you can still participate. Check for a bottle in the back of the church. Many have asked when the bottles are "due". The end of the drive is Father's Day, June 19th. The official count begins the following week. Bottles collected after Father's Day will not be included in the final count for the participating organization. However, every year bottles come in after the official end of the drive and will be turned in and counted as a part of the next year's fundraiser.

Another part of the PHC's work is to provide general support for pregnant women. Free confidential pregnancy testing, counsel-ing (including abstinence information), and referrals are offered. Also, maternity clothing, baby clothing, nutritional support (formula, baby food), and diapers (if needed) are provided free of charge. The header for the PHC website reads, "For every pre-cious little person saved, for every heart turned to Him for every work of love done through this place, To God Be The Glory!" The Brazoria County Pregnancy Help Center's website is: www.pregnancyhelpcenter.org if you would like to know more about the project. Sponsored by CDA Court #2134, Immaculate Mary, Most Holy Trinity/St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Churches.

Please Pray for Priests

Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.

St. John Vianney, pray for us.
