Catholic Outreach is the Parish
Organization that tends to the needs
of our homebound. Currently,
greeting cards sent for various
occasions to the homebound and light
household help (raking, simple
repairs, etc.) have been ongoing
services.
One of the main points of focus is to
take Holy Communion to those who
are unable to make it to church.
Under the organization of Glenn
Ingersoll, we have several Extra-
ordinary ministers of Holy
Communion who take Communion
on a regular basis to parishioners’
homes; but with the recent rise of
requests, we could use a few more
people willing to help in this capacity.
If you are interested in learning
more about this ministry, or if you
know of someone who needs Holy
Communion brought to them,
please contact the Parish office
for/with details.
Mass Intentions Our Parish is very blessed with the
devotion of our Parishioners in having
many requests for Mass Intentions. In
order to accommodate the number of
requests we are permitted to include 2
requests for two of the weekday Masses.
Formerly, these were on Monday and
Wednesday Masses; with the recent
change in schedule (Mass on Friday
mornings instead of Monday mornings),
the Masses that may have 2 intentions are
now Wednesday and Friday. Please
contact the Parish Office if you have any
questions.
St. Anthony of Padua, our Patron and Intercessor,
Pray for Us!
St. Anthony of Padua, Our Patron and Intercessor,
Pray for Us!
Looking for that unique gift? Prayer cards are available for our Adoration
Chapel that can be used to offer an hour spent in Eucharistic Adoration for a special intention. Cards are printed on regular card stock and are suitable to send to those you choose. The inside of the card reads,
“A Gift of Prayer for You…
A Holy Hour of Adoration has been made for your intentions”.
What a beautiful gift for any occasion: an hour spent before our Eucharistic Lord.
The cards are available on the table at bottom of the steps to the Chapel. If you need the code for the Chapel door, please ask any staff member, or call the Parish Office.
Did you know….. there is a book under the sign-in sheet at the bottom of the Chapel step in the Narthex, that you are invited to write-in your prayer requests to be brought
before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
Christian Service Update
Coat Drive: The coat drive ended in the middle of November. We received 37 coats (Men’s, Women’s & Kids), 18 pairs of gloves, no hats, several blankets & comforters. A thank you to our parishioners, Paul and Irene Zawadzki who donated their time to take the items down to the Toledo Rescue Mission. The Rescue Mission was very thankful to receive all the donations to help keep the families warm this winter.
Baby Bottle Campaign: In October we had a baby bottle campaign for Heartbeat of Toledo. Parishioners filled baby bottles with donations of any amount to help with the needs of their mothers and babies. A total amount of $471 was donated to Heartbeat of Toledo. They were very thankful for our generosity.
Thanksgiving Baskets: This year we helped out 10 Veteran families from the Veteran Center in Temperance and parishioners gave us 5 families who also needed help with a holiday dinner. A total of 10 families received a Thanksgiving Basket. We received many donations from our parishioners and the PRE students including cash donations, turkeys, fresh potatoes, and many more food items for their dinners. All the families were very thankful to St. Anthony’s Church for all that they received in their baskets. A thank you to Yavonne Thoma, Anne Herman and her granddaughter, Ruby, and Rose Tussing for putting all the baskets together.
Advent Giving Tree: On our tree we had flag ornaments for gift cards for our veterans with different names of grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants for the veterans to use. The Veteran Center in Temperance had Christmas stockings for each veteran family that the gift cards were put in for them to use. We also helped out 6 families that their names were given to us by our parishioners who really could use our help this holiday season. We gave gifts to the children and we gave extra turkeys & food items that we had left from Thanksgiving to the families for their dinners. A “thank you” to the Knights of Columbus for generously donating a check for purchasing Kroger gift cards for the families. The families were very thankful for their gifts. We were told their children would have not received any gifts for Christmas if it wasn’t for our generosity. Thank you to Yavonne Thoma and Rose Tussing for helping put all the gifts together for the families.
A Special Thank You to the Knights for purchasing and donating 12 children’s coats to the Bedford Veteran Center in Temperance. The Center was overjoyed receiving the coats for their families!
January Baby Shower: We had a baby shower for Heartbeat of Monroe which ended on February 3. We received may baby outfits, handmade blankets, diapers, wipes and many, many more baby items. Thank you to Steve Miller for volunteering to take our donations to Heartbeat of Monroe.
God Bless, Linda Sloan Christian Service
Winter Prayer Lord, In the midst of Winter,
When the days are cold and wind can pierce,
Remind us of the warmth of your love.
When days are short, dawn comes late,
and dusk arrives early, remind us that in the darkness
your light still shines.
When the flowers of spring still lie hidden in the earth,
when leaves are off the trees, and the world can seem bleak,
remind us that Easter is but a short time away.
(submitted by a Parishioner)
The Power of Prayer
Someone has said that if Christians
really understood the full extent of
the power we have available through
prayer, we might be speechless.
During WWII there was an advisor
to Churchill who organized a group
of people who dropped what they
were doing every day at a prescribed
hour for one minute to collectively
pray for the safety of England, its
people and peace.
There is now a group of people
organizing the same thing here in
America. If you would like to
participate: every evening at 9:00pm
Eastern Time (8:00pm Central,
7:00pm Mountain, 6:00pm Pacific),
stop whatever you are doing and
spend one minute praying for the
safety of the United Sates and for a
return to a Godly nation. If you
know anyone else who would like to
participate, please pass this along.
Our prayers are the most powerful
asset we have.
God Bless America!!
