Narendra Modi, today
inaugurated a new Airport
Complex, and an
Integrated Command and
Control Centre for the
Kumbh Mela, at Prayagraj.
The Prime Minister also
performed Ganga Pujan,
and visited the Swachh
Kumbh Exhibition. He
visited the Akshay Vat in
Prayagraj. He also laid the
Foundation Stone for
various development
projects at Andawa in
Prayagraj.
Addressing a large
gathering, he announced
that pilgrims for the Ardh-
Kumbh this time will also
be able to visit the Akshay
Vat. He said the
Government is making
every effort to ensure good
connectivity to Prayagraj.
He said the projects
Prime Minister describes ‘Kumbh’ as
a symbol of India and Indianness
dedicated today, would
help both infrastructure
and connectivity. He said
the new airport terminal
had been completed in a
record time of one year.
The Prime Minister said
that every effort is being
made to ensure a unique

Army and Mukti Bahini, led by Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka after their defeat in the Liberation
war. This historic victory led to creation of Bangladesh. This year's celebration marks the 47th anniversary of

Competition for the school

IX to XIth yesterday. The
Project /Models of the
students were kept on
display for public viewing
from 1 pm onwards. Among
the displayed project, the
best three models were
selected by a panel of
judges. Altogether 11
schools participated in the
competition. This was the
State Level Science Project Competition held;

During the past two days,
Andaman and Nicobar
Command (ANC) has
rescued more than 950
tourists and Islanders,
stranded at the Havelock
and Neil Islands due to bad
weather and rough seas
caused by cyclone Phethai
in the Bay of Bengal.
To evacuate the stranded
tourists and islanders, two
Indian Naval Ships (IN) and
two Indian Coast Guards
(ICG) ships sailed out on
15th of December to
Havelock. Two smaller
ships of Coast Guard were
also used to ferry the
stranded tourists from Neil
Island to Havelock, from
where they were brought by
these bigger INS and Coast
Guard ships. About 740
civilians were successfully
ferried to Port Blair by same
evening.
Continuing the operations
during the night, two Ships
INS Batti Malv and INS
carried 215 more stranded
tourists and islanders and
reached Port Bair on 16th
December early morning
prior to the resuming of
normal ferry services.
The normal services of
Directorate of Shipping
Services (DSS) ships and
private ferr ies plying
between the Islands had
been cancelled for the past
two days due to inclement

straight games to lift her maiden
BWF World Tour Finals title in
Guangzhou, China.
The 23-year-old Indian
continued her rich vein of form
to register a 21-19, 21-17 win
over Okuhara in a thrilling
summit showdown of the
women's singles event that
lasted a little over an hour.
Sindhu, who finished as
runner-up in the last edition of
the tournament, got off to a
positive start as she took an
early 4-1 lead over her
Japanese opponent.
Subsequent ly, Okuhara
rebounded strongly to take
back-to-back points and close
the gap a little to 5-7 against
Sindhu.
The Indian shuttler won the
match's first long rally to take
the lead of 10-5 before
Okuhara made a brilliant
comeback to draw level at 16-
16 against Sindhu. However,
Sindhu then broke Okuhara's
run of consecutive points
before eventually clinching the
opening game.
In the second game, the
Hyderabadi shuttler once again
made a strong start to take a 3-

'Soldierathon' at JLN Stadium
in New Delhi this morning.
The marathon was organised
in the honour of Martyrs and
wounded Soldiers. Wrestler
Yogeshwar Dutt and former
cricketer Gautam Gambhir
were also present on the
occasion. With over 12
thousand participants, the
marathon was held in five
categories. The proceeds from
the event will be donated to
Indian Army’s Artificial Limb
Centre for wounded soldiers to
help them acquire state-of-the-
art prosthesis at the Paraplegic
Rehabilitation Centre.

Teen shooting sensation Manu
Bhaker says her aim is to
secure a quota place for the
2020 Olympics.
Having left her mark in almost
all the top events, the 16-year-
old Bhaker is now focussed on
making the cut for the Tokyo
Games.
Bhaker, who started the year
with gold medals in her maiden
senior World Cup, added two
more yellow metals at the
Commonwealth Games and
the Youth Olympics, the first by
an Indian shooter.
“My aim now is to win Olympic
quota,” Bhaker said.
The year saw a string of young
shooters including Saurabh
Chaudhary and Bhaker scale
great heights in the sport. The
youngsters came out on top at
the Commonwealth Games,
Asian Games, the Youth
Olympics and the Senior
Nationals.
“We saw the youth power this
year, it feels really good that
teenagers are doing so well
and achieving their goals. We
have set our goals and are
working hard, i t is very
surprising that suddenly all of
us are doing so well. I feel very
nice when I see youngsters
performer,” Bhaker said.
Indian shooting has a bright
future with the abundance of
young talent at its disposal. The
recently-concluded National
Shooting Championship saw
13-year-old Esha Singh
upstage big names like Bhaker
and Heena Sidhu in the
women’s air pistol events to win
three gold medals.
Unlike other sports, shooting
allows youngster to participate
in both the senior and junior
events. Such exposure has
benef it ted the younger
generation. “Even in the senior
events most of the competitors
are from juniors and it helps us.
In shooting we juniors get the
opportunity to participate in the
senior events that is not the
case in wrestling and boxing,”
the World Cup gold medallist
said.

growing flower crops for sustainable income throughout
the year. The coordinators of the field day, Dr. V. Baskaran,
Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI and Dr. K. Abirami,
Scientist, ICAR-CIARI spoke about the production
technology, post harvest management and seed production
of marigold and gladiolus. The corms of three varieties of
gladiolus namely Yellow Shine, Chandani and Punjab
Dawn, procured from Directorate of Floriculture Research
(DFR), Pune were distributed to the farmers by Dr. Kundu.
The method of planting the corms in the field and corm
storage was demonstrated to the farmers by Dr. V. Baskaran.
Dr. T. Janakiram, ADG (Hort), New Delhi visited the field of
Shri. Arulandu, a progressive farmer in New Bimblitan.
Appreciated by his integrated farming system and his
interest in growing flower crops, Dr. Janakiran, coordinated
the procurement of gladiolus varieties from DFR, Pune for
the benefit of Island farmers, a communication said.
