You are welcome to come to the classrooms afterwards and to join us for morning tea in the hall at 10:30. I know your children will be very proud to show you their work and through their learning spaces! Kindergarten Enrolments Nambucca Heads Public School is an outstanding school. Our team is proud of our strong culture of high expectations and successful learners. We cater for the whole child and every single person in our learning community is welcomed, valued and included. Our future focused learning design enables students to be resilient, persistent and confident learners. I am sure you would all agree, NHPS is a great place to have your child starting school. Enrolments are open and its best to get this done as soon as possible. NHPS has an extensive orientation program for you and your child. The orientation process includes an informal meeting with staff members where we can have a chat about your child. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to tell us about your child. These interviews will be conducted during week 10. Please book a time by calling the school to make an appointment when you pick up your enrolment forms and information letter. If you have any questions please give us a call on 6568 6411. Athletics I was extremely proud of our students on Friday at the District Athletics Carnival, the students who participated and the students who volunteered to help. Everywhere I looked I could see red shirts participating and trying their best! There were students winning events everywhere and some outstanding individual achievements by Cheyenne Baker, Marli Bateman, Daniel Williams and many others. My favourite moment was when I watched Grace Holladay run the 800m. She was in second place with about 150m to go and a runner from another school was closing in strongly. This caught my attention because I was wondering if Grace would give up to a much larger and seemingly stronger athlete or would she fight on and try to hold her out? I suspected that Grace might just have a crack at holding on to second, so I watched with great interest. For the next 100m I watched Grace dig in and work so hard with someone literally right on her heals, and she simply never gave up. Her effort made me so proud of her, and of our school! This genuine grit is what makes people become great and I see this every day in our students. Excellence! - Our New Value

At Nambucca Heads Public School we are actively encouraging students to always do their best and to never give up – it’s not always about being the best, it’s about always doing your best and this is what our new school value “Excellence” means to us.

Visiting Author Greg Dreise We have our author visit on Friday in

the hall at 9am. Greg Dreise is a famous Australian author of children’s books. He is also a teacher in Queensland and a performer. He might bring his guitar and didgeridoo on the day. His book “Kookoo Kookaburra” is one of our most borrowed books. If you have any questions please see Mrs Miller.

Here is a little about him from the Reading Time Website: “My name is Gregg Dreise, and I am a teacher, author and illustrator. I grew up in St George, South West Queensland. My mother is Lyla Knox, daughter of Ted Knox (Toomelah) and Lulu Simpson (Brewarina). Knoxes are proud Kamilaroi Murris, and my grandma’s family are Yuwaalaraay people. I am the youngest of eight, and I am very proud of my family and my culture. “ You can also find out more by going to his

website: http://greggdreise.com/

And of course parents are welcome to join us. The school is paying for this event as part of our commitment to helping our students to develop a love of reading. Have an excellent week! Regards, Phil Maunder Principal

Seemore is excited to announce our school has made outstanding progress with PBL and all students are demonstrating safe, honest and respectful behaviour. We will soon be starting lessons on our new value EXCELLENCE. This learning will give students the skills to be 21st Century learners and maintain our high standard of achievement at NHPS. We are learning to think, solve problems and respond to a changing

world.

Book Week is coming soon.

Week 6 - 22nd to 26th

August .

There will be a book stall in the Library for

the week where you can purchase books for yourself or purchase one to donate to the

school library.

Visiting Show: Conservatorium of Music Students from Sydney's Conservatorium are bringing their Northern Tour to our school on Monday 8th August at 9am. We are lucky to have secured a performance during their short visit. The group consists of a brass quintet and drummer accompanied by their teacher on piano. They will play for the students and discuss opportunities for further study and careers in music. The cost is being covered by the P&C so that all students can

attend.

Last Friday students in Stage 1 participated in National Tree Day. Brett Johnson from Coffs Harbour Toyota brought a Tahitian Lime Tree as a gift for the school. Mrs Gerard and Isaiah busily dug a large hole for the tree behind the library where the tree will have plenty of sun and space. Kinder and Year 1 students helped to plant the tree wearing gardening gloves and "National Tree Day" shirts (gifts for the students). Thank you Brett and Coffs Harbour Toyota for your time, gifts and helping us to have a lovely National Tree Day! Nearby, Year 1 students from Mrs Battiston's class greeted Tahini and Chloe from Bunnings Coffs Harbour. Students brightened up our native garden near Aunt Emily's chair with a number of beautiful flowering native plants. These plants should attract native birds and some even arrived during the planting! Tahini and Chloe shared their gardening expertise and students had a lovely time gardening using the gloves and tools also kindly gifted to the school. Bunnings Coffs Harbour also donated two raised garden beds which are being constructed by Mr Lester and senior students within the netted garden. Thank you Tahini and Chloe for spending a lovely morning in the sun helping NHPS students enjoy

National Tree Day, and for making our native garden so beautiful!
