SPECIAL NOTES!!!!CONCERT TICKET SALES ENCOURAGEMENT FROM GLORIA...

Thank you all for your ticket selling efforts so far.  There are now only 6 days remaining to achieve a "SOLD OUT"  house for the Friday and Saturday concerts -  January 29, 30.

I know that Victoria is a last minute town in terms of ticket sales for events,  but if each of you could think of 1 or 2 additional friends who would love to see us and hear Coastline - please talk with them.

Tickets are available on- line at http://www.gettinhigherchoir.ca/concerts and at Munro's Books,  Ivy's Books,, James Bay Coffee and Books,  and Dig This (Broadmead)

VOLUNTEER CONCERT HELPERS NEEDED:

Note:   This includes anyone from the High Noon Choir, or anyone from the GHC who isn't singing in the concerts.

I'm looking for 3 volunteers for both Friday and Saturday nights of the concerts - 2 to help hand out programs at the front door and 1 to sell CD's  for Coastline in the Foyer at the break.

Please let me know if you might be able to do one or both nights. ([email protected])  In both cases, you will be able to see the Concert from a seat in the audience, as soon as everyone is seated.

Thanks in advance.

Gloria

CONCERT TICKETS & INFO

As always concert tickets are available at choir every night for you to pick-up for friends, family and associates. They can also get tickets themselves on our web site’s Concerts page. They can also refer to that page to see a list of local businesses that freely volunteer their time and facilities to sell tickets on behalf of our choir and the Power of Hope.

All the scheduling and organizing information that you need about our remaining rehearsals and the concerts is available in the special email announcement that went out January 9 with the subject line “GHC Current Singers' Concert Information Special” please refer to it with your questions. If you can’t find it in your email In folder or archives you can request a re-send of it by email.

NO NUTS REHEARSALS AND CONCERTS

Our Tuesday Tenor who is seriously allergic to nuts (all kinds) will be singing in the concerts and could be at any or all of our remaining rehearsals. Please do not bring anything to choir that contains any type or amount of nuts. In fact please don’t eat nuts before coming to rehearsals or concerts. Even the smell of nuts on someone’s breath can trigger an anaphylactic reaction with drastic negative results.

RIDES WANTED      From The Penninsula For Tuesday, Thursday And The Friday Concert

I need to get to the Church of Truth rehearsal on Tuesday and to the Alix Goolden Concert on Friday.

I live on East Saanich Rd. 3 blks south of Mt. Newton Cross Road.

For the last two choir season's I have been taking the one and a half hour bus ride (with transferring) each way for in-town rehearsals and SWATs but a medical condition no longer allows that.

I don't need it to be the same driver for both evenings.

Editor's Note Whether you come from North Saanich, Brentwood or even the Royal Oak/Broadmead end of Saanich I hope that some of you will be willing to go the extra mile to swing by, or even loop up to, Saanichton at least once in the coming week. I know that our choir, and especially singing in our concerts, is a very important part of her life and I hope some of you will help her out.

From Esquimalt Colville Road Area for Monday's Practice

New Alto Margaret would like to go to the practice in Saanich on Monday night and would appreciate a ride.

I live in Esquimalt at 1156 Colville Rd.  I could get dropped off somewhere if that is more convenient for a driver.

GHC LOST & FOUNDMISSING VEST

My grey Mountain Equipment Co-op down vest went missing at the rehearsal on Thursday January 14th. It was hanging in the coat rack in the entrance way, but was gone by the end of the rehearsal. The vest is a size men's medium/large and is my husband's.  If anyone has mistakenly taken it or happened to see it, please let me know: 778-679-4350.

Submitted by Katharina Batchelar GHC Tuesday Alto

Editor ' s Note There is a strong suspicion that Winnie's missing cell phone is in the pocket of Katherina's vest so its return would be a joyful and much appreciated occasion for two choir members.

WORD OF MOUTH / RECOMMENDATIONSFor supporting and celebrating 'others' whose businesses / actions / way of being / kind words - whatever! - have helped you, us and/or our world grow, come alive and/or prosper.

A TWELVE TONE RECOMMENDATION

Last night (Jan 20) we went to Hermann’s Jazz Club to hear a group of 7 young “a capella” singers called the Twelve Tones (as in an octave). They have been invited to perform in the European Festival of Youth Choirs in Switzerland in May and the concert last night was a fundraiser to cover the costs of the trip.

The group put on an excellent concert to a fully engaged and appreciative audience who gave them a well deserved standing ovation at the end of the evening. Their repertoire is wide ranging, their arrangements creative and their harmonies both precise and fluid. They are eminently worth experiencing and supporting.

They have one more fundraising concert on Feb. 5th in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Your ears, your funny bone and your heart-strings will thank-you if you go to it.

For ticket and other details check out their Feb. 5th Community Events listing below or go to their Facebook event page.

KLUGE - A BOOK RECOMMENDATION

(klôôj) n. Slang (originated by engineers) - A clumsy or inelegant solution to a problem

The subject of this interesting, informative and well written book can be summed up as "How the accidents of evolution created our quirky, imperfect brains - and what we can do about it.

Author Gary Marcus, discusses how our Klugey brains affect memory, belief, choice, language and pleasure (among other things).   He ends with a chapter titled True Wisdom which includes 13 methodologies that we can use to outwit our inner Kluge by learning to recognize our brain's limitations and to address them head on.

The Victoria Library has copies...check it out!

SACRED WRITING CIRCLES (Jan 24 & 31 + Feb 6, 7, etc.)with Junie Swadron What’s it about?   It’s walking to enjoy and observe our world. It’s writing to share from our hearts, it’s laughter, it’s friendship. It’s learning to stop judging our work, it’s sipping tea. It’s finding our voice and feeling safe to speak our words out loud. It’s about being authentic and kind. It’s about music and moving our bodies during the break. It’s about creativity and it’s about catharsis – allowing the writing to become our wise teacher.   It’s poetry and it’s prose. Short stories and drawings that we write from. It’s different every time! Every Sunday Ongoing (except Oct. 25)1 to 4 p.m.$20.00 Limited Space. $20.00

JUST FOR FUN

A reward of laughter for reading this far

*GOD'S PLAN FOR AGING*

Submitted by Bill Hanson GHC rotational Bass etc. from a cyber forward received from Peter Meyer GHC Thursday Bass.

*Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His wisdom God           decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to           search for their glasses, keys and other things thus doing           more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good.***

*Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made           seniors lose coordination so they would drop things           requiring them to bend, reach & stretch.**And God looked           down and saw that it was good.***

*Then God considered the function of bladders and decided           seniors would have additional calls of nature requiring more           trips to the bathroom, thus providing more exercise. God           looked down and saw that it was good.***

*So if you find as you age, you are getting up and down           more, remember its God’s will. It is all in your best           interest even though you mutter under your breath.*

*_Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older_***

*#9 Death is the number 1 killer in the world.***

           *#8 Life is sexually transmitted.***

*#7 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which           one can die.***

*#6 Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they           can't tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make           him a sandwich.***

*#5 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach           a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for           weeks, months, maybe years.***

*#4 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in           the hospital, dying of nothing.***

*#3 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays           no attention to criticism.***

*#2 In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird.           Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it           normal.***

*#1 Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do           today may be a burning issue tomorrow.***

Don't ignore this message. This is your only warning.
