Entertainment and Past Times ~ 1890 - 1940Temporary Exhibit ~ Spring 2012 - Autumn 2013What passed for entertainment in the days before television, video games, and DVDs in Wetaskiwin? See how social life and entertainment were inseparable. It was a social occasion to meet friends and neighbours at the latest travelling show, wrestling match, community supper or dance – to name only a few activities at these popular venues. See the varied community social events from ‘Box Socials’, choirs, festivals, including the frequent Chautauquas, and the rise of dance schools run by accomplished local performers. In the small city of Wetaskiwin, see how you really did know everyone because seeing your neighbour about town was a normal part of community life.
