$1873.98 raised through School Banking! Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our students we have raised $1873.98 for our school through School Banking commissions in Term 1. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit). These funds will go towards equipment and resources for students to use at recess and lunch times. Saving regularly is an important habit to get into, whether you're saving a little or a lot. Keep up the great work and remember, School Banking day at THPS is every TUESDAY . A big THANK YOU to the members of the PFA who volunteer their time every Tuesday morning to process our School Banking deposits.

Hello everyone,

I am very happy and excited to be working at THPS as your Assistant Principal: Grades 3 -6 Area Leader. I will work closely with the Principal, Assistant Principals, Leading Teachers and Education Support staff and of course, with the students and teachers in the 3-6 area. My role is to focus on the learning needs and well-being of the 3 -6 students. If you need support with your child, please contact me.

Previously I have worked across the region in a number of schools, as a Leading teacher, School based Literacy Coach and classroom teacher. Outside the Department of Education, I have spent about 4 years working as a Sessional Lecturer with Victoria University and Federation University. I am currently studying at The University of Melbourne undertaking a Master of Literacy (MC-LIT). My study allows me to keep informed of leading-edge research into literacy learning and teaching.

I look forward to the year ahead, becoming a member of the THPS school community and enjoying many school events together. I am often in the school yard in the morning and afternoon, please stop and say ‘hello’. My office door is always open and I welcome you to contact me at any time.

Kind regards,

Mrs Pizaro

Students privacy is our priority Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned idenfier that may be used

LEARNING CENTRE NEWS! It has been great to see students well rested after the holidays and keen to start borrowing. This term is a busy one for literacy and the Learning Centre. The Premiers Reading Challenge has started and students are able to start reading, keeping a note of their choices and books read to be recorded. We have many of the PRC books listed in our collection and these are stickered with the grade reading levels. If your book does not have a PRC sticker it may still be listed as it may have been added recently, so it does pay to check.

This term we will be running our annual Scholastic Book Fair for a week from 22nd May 2017 . There will be a special guest and it is a great opportunity to pick up a good read for Winter, stock up on presents for birthdays and Christmas as well as supporting the Learning Centre.

A big thank you to the Learning Centre Rovers, these students are selected from Grades 3 – 6 to be library experts for a term. They assist students to find and put away books helping to keep the Learning Centre tidy. Certificate recipients for Term 1 were announced at Assembly on Monday.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Taylors Hill Primary School is excited to be participating.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2017.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and parents can choose to have their child's name included on the online Honour Roll.

Over the next coming weeks, registration details and further information about the challenge will be sent home in both class and school newsletters. In the meantime, to read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

Happy reading and let the challenge begin!
