Baptisms:

Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

РОЗДУМИ НА НЕДІЛЮ ПРАОТЦІВ

Cьогодні ми святкуємо пам'ять святих Праотців, які жили від Адама і Єви і до святого

Йосифа Обручника та Івана Хрестителя. Праотці жили задовго до народження Месії, але

жили в Його очікуванні. Вони ніколи не ходили до Церкви, не слухали Літургії, Євангелії,

ніколи не причащалися Тіла і крові Христової, не слухали релігійного радіо, не дивилися

телеканал EWTN і так далі. Вони не були християнами, але їхні серця були відкриті на

діяння Бога. Вони через віру бачили Господа, який прийшов до людей. Їхнє життя було

святим, бо завжди жили в присутності Бога, чинили добро і любили. Святі праотці Старого Завіту спасали себе через віру в прийдешнього Месію слухаючи

голосу Божого через пророків. Ми християни Нового Завіту є щасливі, бо маємо перед собою Євангеліє, через яку чуємо

голос живого Христа, знаємо, що Він з любові до нас терпів на хресті і помер, вознісся на

небо і сидить праворуч Бога - Отця. І в цьому є велика життєдайна сила християнської

віри, яку мали також святі Праотці, які не бачивши Христа, увірували в нього. Тепер коли ми стоїмо на порозі Різдва берімо приклад зі святих Отців, відкриймо широко

очі нашої віри, творімо милосердя, очистімо своє серце від всього того, що може нас

віддаляти від любові Божої, простімо один одному провини, подаймо руку тим, хто

ненавидить нас, щоб себе достойно і гідно приготувати в ці останні дні посту до зустрічі

Христа, Божого Сина. Бо там де є любов там і Бог перебуває.

REFLECTION ON SUNDAY OF THE HOLY FOREFATHERS

Today, on the second Sunday before the Nativity of our Lord, the Holy Church remembers the

Holy Forefathers - those righteous people who lived before Jesus Christ, and lived righteously

with faith in Him. Everyone from Adam and Eve to Joseph the Betrothed and John the Baptist.

On this day the Church brings as an example those God pleasing people who did not live to see

or hear of the birth of Jesus Christ. These people sought salvation in the faith. These people did not have access to books like we have. They did not have televisions or the

internet from which we can obtain so much useful information on the Church and religious

topics. And we should ask ourselves - are we utilizing theses sources of information to further

our knowledge of the Church? The doors of the Heavenly Kingdom are open to us ! All we have to do is realize that fact,

repent and to truly start living a Christian life. We must attempt to learn the teachings of the

Church, the feast days and the saints the same way that we study the statistics of sports teams,

the economy, culinary recipes and all that attracts us from the wordily aspect. Let us prepare ourselves spiritually in these last days of Philip’s Fast so as to be worthy to meet

the upcoming joyous feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ - the appearance into the

world of the God-child in Bethlehem.

РІЗДВЯНА ПРОСФОРА

У неділю в навечір’я Різдва ГНІХ 24 грудня в

нашому соборі будемо благословити просфори

(хлібці), якими будемо ділитися на святій вечері.

Хтось один від кожної родини може підійти і взяти

просфору додому. Хліб – це символ воплоченого Бога –

нашого Творця і Спасителя, який прийняв на себе

людське тіло, щоб бути видимо присутнім між нами. І так,

як оцей один хліб, що розподіляється на безліч частинок,

аби всіх об’єднати і наповнити життям, так і ця спільна

просфора показує нам близькість Бога до нас і дає нам

нагоду бути разом, бути єдиними, – нагоду привітати одне

одного і поділитися радістю, яку тепер переживаємо.

ДИЯКОНІЯ - ЗРОБІМО РІЗДВО

СВІТЛІШИМ ДЛЯ ІНШИХ

Протягом Пилипівки - Різдвяного посту,

коли ми готуємося до приходу Христа -

Еммануїла, ми маємо добру нагоду

вправлятися в такій чесноті як

МИЛОСЕРДЯ.

Під час посту ми збираємо продукти, які перед Різдвом

передамо до місцевого центру для потребуючих "hunger

center" .

Згадаймо бідного євангельського Лазаря, який лежав при

воротях багача і чекав бодай на крихти хліба з його столу,

але і того не було. Ця Різдвяна акція зробить святкування

Різдва світлішим і радіснішим для наших сусідів, які є в

потребі. ВСЕСВІТНІЙ ДЕНЬ ОДРУЖЕННЯ!

Всесвітній День Одруження відзначається в

другу неділю лютого. Цього року - 11 лютого.

Головне послання є: “ Всесвітній День

Одруження шанує чоловіка і дружину, як засновників

сім’ї, підвалину нашого суспільства. Віддається честь

їхній вірності, жертвенності і радості в щоденному

подружньому житті”.

CATHEDRAL ICONOGRAPHY PROJECT

This weekend of December 16th and 17th; the

Parish will hold informational meetings to

discuss the current Iconography project to

complete the interior of the Cathedral. At this

time you will have the opportunity to hear a brief presentation

on the project and be able to ask questions. The presentation

will take place in the Men's Club room after the 4pm Saturday

and the 8am, 9:30am and 11am Divine Liturgies on Sunday. OUR SYMPATHIES

We wish to express our prayers and deepest sympathies

to the family of † Bohdan Szemeczko whose funeral was

at Kolodiy-Lazuta Funeral Home on Friday, December

15, 2017 and to the family of † Mychajlo Tymosch whose funeral

With the blessing of Bishop Bohdan Danylo, St.

Josaphat Cathedral Parish collected $961. in the

vestibule last Sunday, December 10th which will be

sent to the children of the Heroes of Ukraine. Thank you to all

who donated. "Whoever gives to the poor will have everything

he needs” (Proverbs 28:27).

THANK YOU! Our St. Nicholas Luncheon was a very successful and

enjoyable event. We wish to thank Nadija and Larry Pelz,

Irina Gumenyuk-Chris and Ken Chris, Alexandra and

Paul Kuzmyn, and Mrs. Oksana Sharanevich for her advice and

support, to singers Maryna Turiv, Zoryanka Nalyvayko, Taras

Turiv and the parents who were very helpful in helping organize

a wonderful holiday luncheon. We thank our children and Mrs.

DIAKONIA / MAKING CHRISTMAS

BRIGHTER

Dear Parishioners,

During this Season of Philip’s Fast we are

encouraged to practice ALMSGIVING and the

spirit of CHARITY in preparation for the

coming of Christ Emmanuel. We want to give you the

opportunity to do that here at our parish. This year we are

reaching out to the local hunger center by donating non-

perishable food and other items. PLEASE HELP US with this

project by donating items for the hunger center. PROSPHORA BREAD

Next Sunday Prosphora bread will be blessed at the

Divine Liturgies. After the Divine Liturgies, each

family may take one Prosphora bread home for their

Christmas Eve dinner.

Bread is a symbol of the incarnate God - our Creator and

Savior, who took over the human body to be visibly present

among us. Prosphora means “offering” in Greek. It is the

bread the priests use on the altar for the consecration during

the celebration of the Divine Liturgy.

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY

World Marriage Day takes place on February 11,

2018. It is an observance sponsored by the Catholic

Marriage Encounter movement observed on the

second Sunday of February each year. “World Marriage Day

honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the

basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness,

sacrifice and joy in daily married life.”

Bishop Bohdan Danylo in conjunction with the Department of

Family Life of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat would like to

recognize and honor the couples of our parish who are

celebrating 10, 25, 40, 50 or 60 years of marriage in 2018.

Please inform the parish office of the date of your anniversary

and how many years you are celebrating no later than

January 18th, 2018 so that we can report the information to

the Chancery Office.

PROSPHORA DINNER

The St. Josaphat Cathedral Parish Prosphora Dinner

will be held in the Astrodome on Sunday, January 15,

2017, after the 11:00 AM Divine Liturgy.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults. Tickets are now available for

purchase at the Rectory Office during regular business hours.

The deadline for the purchase of tickets is Thursday, January

11, 2018.

PYROHY SALES DECEMBER SCHEDULE

In preparation for Christmas, beginning this week,

for the next three weeks, we will be peeling

potatoes on Monday and Tuesday and pinching

pyrohy on Wednesday & Thursday. Pyrohy Sales hours will

be Thursdays & Fridays from 8 AM until 1PM.

PLEASE NOTE: The Initial Offering, which covers the cost of

the envelopes is $20.00.
