CAL REC SPORTS?WHY

How do I fit it?

We oer classes & activities to suit every fitness level. This includes faculty and sta exercising for the very first time, as well as those looking for a high intensity workout.

Q:A:

Are there classes for me?

Yes. Beginners can start gently with stretching, yoga or Tai Chi classes; those looking for higher intensity workouts can join us for activities such as group cycling, kickboxing, circuit training or boot camp.

Q:A:

I’m so busy; when can I exercise?

The RSF has long hours: 6am to 1am on most nights, and oers free classes throughout the day and evening.

Q:A:

Where can I workout? Is it far from my oce?

Our main facility (RSF) is centrally located and is a short walk from most oces on campus. The Strawberry Canyon pool and the Golden Bear pool are good options for sta working on the east side of campus.

Low Intensity:yoga, stretching, walking, water exercise, sailing

High Intensity:boot camp, circuit training, kickboxing, windsurfing, speed & agility training

Medium Intensity:cycling, pilates, tennis, swimming, sea kayaking

Recreational Swimming: I love my morning swims at Hearst pool; freestyle laps in this gorgeous pool are magical. Then, enjoying sunrise on a kickboard chatting with the friends I've made enriches each day with spiritual joy and commu-nion. It's the high point of our day. –David Kessler, Library Assistant The Bancroft Library

Boot Camp:Boot Camp has challenged me to work out with four times the intensity than I ever did on my own or in other classes. I truly appreciate the instructor’s positive, personalized encouragement and creative, well-planned routines. My strength and energy level is higher now than in college!-Beth Hoch, Assistant Director, Admissions Haas School of Business

Personal Training: I’ve been using personal training for four years now and I’m very pleased with the program. I really have no plans to ever stop. I see people twenty years older than me in RSF with trainers, and I guess that will be me in twenty years.–Phil Price, Sta Scientist Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Group Water Exercise:I get a great workout by taking advan-tage of the water resistance. It’s low intensity, but achieves the same results as a high intensity class, which helps control my weight and muscle tone, without risking strains to my back, joints and ankles. And, it’s a nice friendly atmosphere.–Bianca Letizia Cerchiai
