Miami Athletic Club & SpaAuburn University
Spring 2013
Our proposed sites are the two parking lots along Collins Avenue, to the north and south of
12th street. We are proposing an art deco style, membership only, athletic club & spa.
The proposed program includes: a rooftop pool, a rooftop bar & grill, a fine dining restaurant
& bar, a spa, a basketball court, and a gym. This is an ideal area for this type of program,
with the beach only 325 ft. away. There are two existing beach volleyball courts within a two
minute walk from the site. Our building will supplement Miami’s good health and fitness life-
style.
The two buildings will make distinct design moves that allude to each other. However, they
will not be identical. There are two separate programs, and therefore, each program
deserves a design best fit for its function.

The Athletic Club is a health, recreational, and social facility geared towards exercise, sports, and other physical activi-ties. A successful facility will accommodate both, the serious athlete, and the casual recreational user.
Activities include orga-nized, group instructional programs - such as spin-ning classes, yoga, and martial arts; organized and impromptu team sports; and individual fitness opportunities such as car-diovascular training, weight training, and swimming. Individual activities may be self-guided or conducted under the supervision of a trainer.
The social component is an important secondary func-tion of the Athletic Club, and is represented by ele-ments that support the fitness goals, but also encourage social interac-tion. These include a juice bar and sport spectator seating.
