October Demo: Liz Pulos
Tapestry Artist
Liz is taking part in Tacoma Studio Tour on Saturday, Oct 14. https://tacomaarts.wordpress.com/2017/08/30/2017-tacoma-studio-tour-preview-part-4/
Liz says: “I learned to weave in 1976,
and, while I've flirted with other me-
dia, weaving has been the enduring
thread in my creative life. In the early
1990s I led the fibers program at the
Shelburne Craft School in Shel-
burne, VT. I am currently a member
of Tapestry Artists of Puget Sound
(TAPS). Mostly, though, it's just me
at my loom, building an image one
thread at a time”. Come learn more
about this enduring art form that us-
es pattern and color in a different
way than most of us. You may find
an aspect that will grow your art, or
maybe just grow your appreciation
of this art form !

October President’s Message:
Here we are coming up to October already and as I write this it may be the last day of summer at 81 degrees! It was a great summer for making art! I have had a wonderful two years of being president thanks to a super board and a host of exceptional volunteers. So as I look to PAL's future you all know what we need. We need a president! I will be around as VP to offer any help needed (when asked... no
meddling!) So please consider if this is something you can do. It is not difficult. We have great and efficient people in place to run things. The president just keeps an eye on the pulse and makes sure things are going ok...mostly by email. I will be leaving early January for a month and as a nonprofit we need a full slate of officers. Please, don't think someone else will step up. If you have the skill of organization that person should be YOU! Call me 253-858-9388 or email [email protected]. I love PAL so I will wait for my volunteer ...you. Thank you,
Charli "Live long, Laugh often, Love much".
The Screening Committee is pleased to submit the results of the September 26, 2017 Peninsula Art League members screening.
The following artists have screened successfully in the media listed: Cynthia Johnson Ketty Lane
Oil Drawing Media
Meg Nelson Candace Rosin
Acrylic Photography
David Severt Terry Shovlowsky
Watercolor Pastel
Donna Strathy Elea Williams
Photography Mixed Media
Congratulations!
Editor’s 2 cents: I’ve been President in the past also- it was an honor, and so fun to work with the
Board, and lead this great group. I can tell you that you will have the support and information to be
successful- we just need YOU to step up and do it!

PAL BOARD MINUTES 9/21/2017
The meeting was called to order by President Charli Meacham at 10:05. Those in attendance were Charli
Meacham, Anne Knapp, Judy Buskirk, Feather Hilger, Lucy Rau, Linda Coke, Carlene Salazar, Sheila Ander-
son, Terry Shovlowsky, Charlee Glock-Jackson and Nancy Bartlett.
Treasurer’s Report – Total cash and assets are $76,584.58. Total investments are $120,000. Total assets
equal $196,254.58. It was discovered we were paying insurance fees rated for a profit organization. With the
advantage of paying for a non-profit organization PAL saves $800 per year.
Art Festival –The Art Festival income and expenses were almost equal to last year. There was a net profit of
$25,581. Judy Buskirk presented some suggestions for future shows given her by another artist.
Open Juried Show – Carlene reported new changes for the show have been codified. PAL was able to se-
cure new sponsors due to the work of more people. There were more entries this year (1,340). Mitch Albala
will be the juror for the next show. Donna Trent’s studio will be the venue for the workshop. There may be an
adjustment for the time of the show in September due to other commitments by the Harbor History Museum.
Workshops – The Jane Blundell workshop is full.
Member Show – The summer show had the most ever entrants but lost $177. There was a discussion about
possibly raising the cost of each entrant to $15. PAL may need to put more into the budget in 2018 to cover
costs. There are 34 entrants to the fall show at Morso. Two problems occurred with this show – the PAL
screening deadline and the need to have D rings for hanging in the gallery.
Officers’ Slate – The proposed slate for the 2018 officers is:
President – Lucy Rau
Vice President – Charli Meacham
Co-VP Shows – Cathie Johnson
Co-VP Shows - Sheila Anderson
Secretary – Nancy Bartlett
Treasurer – Randy Robbins
A full list of Committee Chairs was presented. Voting for officers will be held at the September PAL general
meeting.
Plein Aire – Anne Knapp presented a special events proposal to cover the PAL Plein Aire Show. Changes to
the proposal included: exhibitors from PAL will help hang the show, Juror’s name will be forwarded the
Charlee Glock-Jackson for the GH Arts Commission, $250 to cover awards for show. A motion was made
and approved to accept the proposal with the changes.
Videos – Judy Buskirk reported the video cabinets have been painted and are ready to move to the new loca-
tion. A discussion followed on the parameters for ordering the videos, the budget, conversion of older videos
to a more modern format.
Meeting adjourned at 11:10.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Bartlett, Secretary.
