Yard

Cleanup

On Wednesday October 19, the Key Club meeting had an especially exciting meeting. Instead of the usual sitting and listening to the officers present, the club members all walked over to the home of an elderly Snoqualmie woman who needed help taking care of her yard. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the club was able to make a huge difference in her yard!

Many clubs might start their weekly meetings with announcements

or an activity, but every Wednesday, Key Club kicks off with

something a little different: recycling. The Key Clubbers split into

teams, get big rolling bins and go around the school picking up

recycling from all the classrooms and offices. True to Key Club’s

purpose of community service, this Key Club tradition was started

several years ago by a student who couldn’t believe Mount Si didn’t

already have a recycling program. Ever since, this important service to

help our planet has been performed by enthusiastic Key Club

volunteers as well as the students in the Life Skills classes.

TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF Monday October 31st

Meet after school in Mr. Dockery’s room for snacks and candy, then carpool up to Snoqualmie Ridge to trick-

or-treat and collect money for UNICEF. This year, UNICEF is partnering with Key Club international and

Kiwanis International on the Eliminate Project, to wipe out maternal and neonatal tetanus, so it’s especially

important for us Key Clubbers to show our support and spend some time collecting money. Come prepared to

have fun and bring a costume if you’d like.

PARENT MEETING/MEMBER INDUCTION November 30th

Evening (time TBA)

At this special meeting we will induct all of our new members and invite the parents of all the members to

come learn about what Key Club and Kiwanis is all about. It will be a potluck so plan to bring something tasty.

More details will be announced in the near future.

TOY DRIVE The Toy Drive is an annual project that Key Club does with some

help from Kiwanis. We put up donation boxes at all the district

schools and collect toys for children in need. Last year there were

more children on the list to receive toys than there had ever been

before, so this is an especially important project in these tough times.

Be on the lookout for a special commercial coming out in a couple

weeks, and a box-wrapping holiday party later on.

BELL RINGING- SALVATION ARMY Every holiday season, Kiwanis and Key Club team up to ring the bell

for the Salvation Army at local grocery stores. When no one rings the

bell, donations to the kettle are extremely low, but when you get a

team together to sing songs and spread holiday cheer, you can raise

quite a bit in a two-hour period. There are lots of slots, so you can

sign up for whichever works for you. If you’re really looking for the

perfect time, though, sign up for Christmas Eve!
