This model was one o a ew choices that I had sitting in the b

go but I knew that she would most likely be quite popular or entries too so she needed something more than a decent pa

make her stand out a bit more In the grey pile I also have the Mother who has a massive pair o wings that I had an inkling w

the 54mm model as much as the 35mm model that it was scuand ater a quick test t I ound that this was very much true sabout converting the kit to suit mostly getting the wings to t a

altering the cloak and hood to make it t somehow over the towings Fortunately the hair on the model looks windswept so

up and rebuilt the cloak to ollow the same direction and so mconversion was done The sword hilt broke while I was cleanin

model and I accidentally chopped o the little pommel piece couldnrsquot salvage so I drilled a wire through it and into the han(later on) tted a chain which I could wrap around the hilt and

(which helped to mask the join with the arm too)

The painting was a challenge to mysel to go all out on a ldquohigh

scheme I have seen the likes o Seb Archerrsquos work and wondejust how they get so many strong colours to work together Soa bit o discussion I came up with an ldquoaccented analogicrdquo sc

which is essentially taking a colour on the colour wheel then pldquoanalogousrdquo colours (- in this case a sort o blue was the main

green and purple as the analogics -) and lastly the complimenor the blue is orange It sounds a bit complicated but essent

look at a colour wheel it makes a kind o ldquoban the bombrdquo sign join the lines up

complex texture I painted it in monochrome tones to begin wittempted to leave it like that but it looked too fat so I added t

with blue undertones and I stumbled upon a nish that I was

the wings rather than paintingas such I placed the green ldquohthen added blues next to that onto purples and nishing o w

magenta The nal eect was really quite striking and just whahoped or

Once I did the straps belts bikini and armour in teals and gre

worked the metals out relying on orange and blue inks to helpmatch the rest o the scheme (this was shamelessly lited as a

rom my mate Chris Octive aka ApaMonkeyman7x)

Last o all was the skin and hair I like the pale look o the hair

art so I did a similar colour incorporating blue and purple ton

The skin was the make or break part o the whole model and anything needed to be strongly ldquoorangerdquo to tie everything toge

a alse start because I had used the Andrea skin set which I non smaller models without incident but I just couldnrsquot get righ

picked out some GW skin tones mixing dark and bronzed fesalong with some P3 Khaki to get abase colour that I was hap

that it was a case o highlighting and shading individual areasmore khaki then VMC Deck Tan or highlights and mostly moto shade but therersquos dwar fesh tanned fesh and some blue

dark brown too) Because o her size shersquos BIG I needed to mthat the blends were smooth and brought attention to the right

model which involved a air bit o correcting glazing and re-ebut in the end it was my avourite part o the whole model

The base was made rom a BNS plinth with a Kerr amp King scebase attached I put a stony base colour down then used varrom the rest o the model in the various parts o the base tha

all together even more add reinorcing the otherworldly antas

And thatrsquos it in a nutshell I was absolutely bowled over to pick

win as I think that there were some incredibly strong entries acompetition itsel was really well supported by the members A

minis draw some pretty polarised discussion but they also brsome really great paint jobs which is largely down to the imagKingdom Death world now has I personally canrsquot wait to see w

coming along in the uture - not least the next 12 months beccompetition prize lol

Itrsquos Christmas

Well almost and itrsquos amanic time o year oro us that celebrate it abeen pretty manic hWamp too I have beenalising details oryearrsquos contest sponsoI have some excitinones or you Itrsquos a

demonstration o Wgrowing appeal that we are attracting the biggest names in the hobby to partwith us We have just had the nal two contests o the year nished The KiDeath one you can see the results o in this very issue Also the Red Box Gcontest has just closed and voting is currently underway on that so i yoursquoreyou could go and vote or your avourites in that one

Therersquos yet more contest goodness in the orm o Wamped II our big end ocontest thatrsquos open to any mini rom any manuacturer (even scenery amp terraa chance) I have some prize details or that in this issue to urther tempt yoentering

I have been able to breathe a big sigh o relie as one o Wamprsquos biggesprojects has nally come to realisation Itrsquos taken over 6 months (and been

pipeline even longer) but our new gallery is up and running Over the yearsWampers have asked or such a gallery and I nally took the plunge and inin one Itrsquos pretty much a custom build and it aims to take the rating conceptpopular by CMON but put Wamprsquos own slant on it with the ocus on havingand impartial voting system Itrsquos much more than just a voting gallery thougitrsquos open to people wanting to show o their work but donrsquot want rating (yochoose which (i any) o your submissions get voted on) I hope it can build ubecome a useul resource o both painted work and sculpts (sculpts eventheir own separate section) Itrsquos only been open a couple o days but itrsquos astarting to ll up nicely and I invite you all to pop a ew pictures o some owork up ndash doesnrsquot have to be new work show us your classic stu too

So all in all itrsquos been a busy month but also an exciting one I want to wish

a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I hope next year bringprosperity

I guess it would be wrong to slamthis miniature simply because itrsquos o aLannister Cersei the worst o themall to be precise but that would notgive any accurate inormation on theminiature itsel So put your swordsdown and eelings aside my ellow Starksupporters and indulge me in a airreview o Cerseirsquos attributes

This is a 2 piece white-metal kit that

eatures Cersei Lannister as a singlepiece and a white metal base Irsquoll tacklethe base rst since therersquos the least tosay about it Itrsquos simply a stonework daiswith some mossplant growth peekingout among a ew o the stones Itrsquos wellsculpted to look like shale or a similarlayered stone with a cutout where herdress can neatly t in so the abric sitsnicely on the ground Itrsquos a nice lookingand simple design but it only servesas something to put the miniature on Itdoesnrsquot add anything to the composition

This is a mini that screams or a goodbase so yoursquore going to have to makeone o your own

Irsquom not sure how one obtains arcanemastery over Lead but Irsquom pretty sureDark Sword has a Lead-o-mancer intheir employ as itrsquos the only reasonableexplanation or how they can get suchhigh quality casts Cersei has curlyhair that alls in strands rom her headleaving realistic gaps between some othe strands and they are all cast perectly

The amount o work required to prep thisgure is so negligible that it doesnrsquot meritmentioning

This gure is perect or a painter whowants to experiment with translucentabrics The dress is modeled to appearas i it were made rom very sheer

materialwhichmeans it is very orm tting but thea very delicate sotening o the cove

anatomical details that lends realismthe idea o a body covered by thin This is a very suggestive piece butthere is nothing overt about it The alls into a multitude o tight olds wrefects a thin abric quite well

There are many tiny details on herthat will require careul brush workSpecically all o her jewellery is tindelicate looking which ts the sculpwell Therersquos also a thin circlet in hewith a lot o tiny details The ace is

striking but I have to admit that I catell i shersquos supposed to have big oeyes or i they are lidded The lattersupport the pose better- this will justo be the painterrsquos judgment call

representation than this Therersquos notmuch action in the pose whichis ne but it means that shersquosnot going to be a good choiceor much outside o competitionwork or as a git I would besurprised to see her used aspart o someonersquos wargamingarmy

Irsquove never said this about a gurebeore but I really eel like sheis or experienced paintersonly The details are so neand precise that people newto the hobby may nd herrustrating to paint well

Swordrsquos Cersei LannisterThis miniature is fat outgorgeous

Her curly hair is sculptedbrilliantly and a tiny tiarapeaks through the crowno her head The curls alldown a beautiul ace that issculpted in a day dreamingstate o bliss The hair hangs to rest ongentle shoulders and a neck ordainedwith a tiny but detailed necklace Her

breasts all wide across her chest intoa thin dress that is draped wonderullyThe dress could be a nightgown o somehigh quality silk that only the Lannisterscould aord The dress twists down to theground giving the mini a slight sense omovement and urther emphasizing theday dreamy state

The detail on my miniature was reallyreally good Irsquom again impressed withthe detail Dark Sword achieves and thequality control they maintain There wasonly a tiny little spot where I would have

to le a mould line on her wrist and thatwould just take a second while the rest isliterally perect out o the box The curlyhair and draped abric are the majorstrong points o this mini or me

There are a couple really nice

opportunities or painters to workwith on this mini mainly abricsSheer eects or reehand are

understandably great choiceson this beaut The stance o thismini almost looking into the skyalso oers a nice OSL pose asshe could look into the morningsun or bask in the moonlight

Winter is coming or so thesaying goes but in Kings

Landing itrsquos obviously stillpretty warm by looking atthe skimpy dress Cersi iswearing I love the GeorgeRR Martin books and I alsoreally enjoyed the TV serieso Game o Thrones so I wasvery pleased when we cameto review one o the stories

most infuential charactersimmortalised in miniature byDark Sword Miniatures

Now I get to look at a LOTo miniatures probably morethan most due to editingPortal so I have seen some

very nice versions o this miniaround the various orums One

thing that I have learnt over the yearsis that when painters produce thoseexceptional paint renditions a hugeamount o work goes into preparing the

miniature and this is what I expected inthis case I was very surprised that whenI picked up the Cersi miniature that it wasalmost perect and by ar the best DSmini I have had the pleasure to review soar As ar as I can tell there is only theslightest mouldline on her right hip and Ihad to really look hard to nd that one

The casting quality o this miniature isantastic and every part o her is verysmooth and all the detail is lovely andsharp Her hair closed eyes and jewellery

is ever so ne itrsquos hard to believe whatTom Meier has achieved in this sculpt

Unlike most other DS miniatures Cersicomes with a separate base and thatrsquos abig plus or anyone who wants to maketheir own diorama or display base Irsquomgoing to look orward to painting her

It all seems ancient history now but

back in 1984 itrsquos difficult to overstate

the influence Advanced Dungeons and

Dragons (ADampD) had on the fantasy

world as a whole Though perhaps notthe best RPG it was certainly the most

widespread and widely played Making

miniatures to suit it made good financial

sense

ADampD had character classes such as ghters wizardsclerics and thieves so Citadel produced ranges o ghterswizards clerics and thieves Their clerics never carriededged weapons thieves never wore heavy armour and anawul lot o their character miniatures carried backpacks

thus indicating an adventuring background ADampD hadmonsters that were well described in the Monster Manual othe day and these too translated into some o what Citadelproduced Ogres were tribal and primitive trolls brutishand ugly True the orcs never had the pig snouts o themonster manual illustrations but that might have been an IPinringement too ar even then

Yet also the Citadel miniatures o 1984 showed an initial

start to stray away rom the guiding ideas o ADampD Yestill produced the core character classes and races buthe companyrsquos own ideas started to peep through

Code CO5 was a range o Oriental Heroes a good whbeore ADampD released their Oriental Adventurers sourbook They were good miniatures too done by a new

sculptor called Aly Morrison CO11 Halfings was anotslight departure These owed more to Tolkien and comlicence than a anything yoursquod actually go adventuringwith The new generation o trolls became more comiappearance too The rst range had been very realisticdesign brutal weapons bestial aces and a thoroughunpleasant manner These newer oerings though ugllook less rightening

ADampD had made great use o the Drow their name oDark Elves in a series o adventure modules They wepopular versatile and had caught the gaming imaginaCitadel thereore produced an initial boxed set back in

ndash 83 called the Night El Patrol Clearly modelled on thDrow they were properly el sized slight well equippelead by a emale In 1984 they released another batchthese were bigger human sized oerings Females eaprominently as both troops and leaders too another Dtrait However it was the C21 range o Cold Ones and that marked a bit o original thinking Dark Elves ridinglizards This was new

earliest ranges Quite why it chose to do so is a mysterycertainly other miniature companies used the word evil todescribe certain characters and didnrsquot seem to suer anybacklash However its now in 1984 that Chaos starts tobecome a genre type in itsel within the Citadel miniaturesworld Chaos warrior boxed sets and some single miniatureshad been released in 1982-83 Three Chaos monsters werealso described at the back o the rst compendium Nowin 1984 there were C27 Chaos Monsters Chaos Goblin

Mutants and Chaos Beastmen along with a new range oC35 Knights o Chaos It is here in these early ranges thatthe seed o using Chaos or evil rst started Now Chaos isa major part o the Warhammer world with whole actionsdeities abilities and histories in its canon

Goblin anatics rst appeared with their ball and chainweaponry though one was bizarrely armed with agiant boomerang The Slann also made their rst massappearance too Modelled with a strong infuence o pre-conquest South America they were certainly dierent i notentirely useul or most adventures

The second compendium also oicially includes Nick Lundrsquos

Chronicle miniatures line This is worthy o its own articlebut to suice to say it was a smart move on Citadelrsquos part

However despite the new miniatures company acquisitionsand general increase in prole there were still problems

The rst one came about through the diering styles oAmerican and Uk miniature sculptors Citadel commissionedTom Meier o Ral Partha ame to produce a range oHigh Elves or them He had already done a boxed seto troglodytes and lizard warriors all highly detailed andsuitably realistic so their condence wasnrsquot misplacedTom indeed came up with the goods a range o perectlysculpted high elves some mounted but most on oot The

problem was they were also perect 25mm scale and didnrsquott with anything else Citadel sold They were never oiciallysold in the US either so I suspect Tom may have been ableto sell them with his existing Ral Partha ranges too as parto the deal Regardless it let Citadel with a problem theylooked out o place Aly Morrision to the rescue and a partpage squeaked into the back o the Chronicle miniaturessection towards the end o the compendium

Another change was rather more undamental the cametal was altered Citadel had always cast in an alloy was mainly lead The results were usually pretty goodgrey miniatures that rom my own experience seem towell From the time o the second compendium thoughthis changed to a dark almost black alloy with even mworrying long term results

The darker metal clearly has a higher lead content thaalloy it replaced I can only assume it was or cost reasreducing the price per unit at a time when the UK wasa recession What I do know is that it produced a rangminiatures more suspectable to lead rot than most othAgain lead rot deserves its own article but or those wmight not have seen its aects have a look at the pictbelow

This aside these are a great range o miniatures and worth collecting But what do you need to look out or

Well as with the earlier oerings the base is key For sreason Citadel really got their act together in 1984 andproduced a stamp to date all their gures It appearedversions square ramed ( pictured below ) and diamo

You can also sometimes nd GW 1984 scratched into thebase on some miniatures Perhaps they were nishedbeore the stamp was produced

One oddity to this were some o the White DwarPersonalities boxed set which though stamped GamesWorkshop 1984 was a raised mark as apposed to animpressed one

Sculptors initials disappeared apartrom a tiny AM that you may ndon the side edge o some o AlyMorrisonrsquos work Itrsquos not commonand very tiny He also seems tohave used only two base stylessquare and rounded sometimesboth in the same range

though was the titling o miniatures on top o their basNot every range was done and not all to the same degDwarves and Halfings were just labelled such

Ranges sculpted by Mr Morrision provided the charactclass that the miniature was supposed to represent Agdonrsquot know why but it does once again show just how ADampD dominated the industry back then

how to realize real-looking Bushes

Letrsquos rst have an overview o the

diorama ully completed withthe previous grass step just beore thework with the bushes

Tools o the trade needed

Like or the grass bushes do notrequire a lot o material You need

least 2 dierent types o green poone very thin and o clear colourthe other more thick and darker Tpowders rom Noch (used or tradiorama) are a perect choice

usually cheaper and in bigger quantity)

Yoursquoll need o course the vinalil (glue or wood) and a hal-ull glass o water

Add some latex gloves and tweezers

Now letrsquos get to work mix the two powders inside acardboard box Mix everything well until you get anhomogeneous result

Then add the vinavil to the water until you see the level othe liquid reaching 23 o the glass Mix the two togetherThe nal result should be something very fuid still mostlywater-like

Now dividecut the lichens into small pieces o no morethan 7-8cm The bigger they are the more complex it is towork with them Anyway once treated the bushes can stillbe divided into smaller pieces as needed to better makethem t ollowing your needs into the diorama The idealdimension is the one seen in the picture

Take then one lichen with the tweezers and immerge it intothe glass (vinavilwater) and then squeeze it with your hand(in the latex glove) to let the excess liquid drop and put it ona sheet o newspaper

Repeat the operation until you have some 5-6 lichens

Immediately start then to put the lichens ull o glue ithe powder mix beore they start drying

It is important to note that you canrsquot really prepare mor5-6 lichens at a time due to the glue drying (and you wto happen on the diorama not on the newspaper) 5-6good number to still not have a painstakingly slow prowhile not risking to waste lichens

How to place your bush on the diorama

First use a brush o medium size to put some vinavil w

you want your bush to be For this process do not usediluted solution o water and vinavil but straight vinavi

Then put the bush (which is still wet with the watervinsolution) in place You will see that the vinavil in placedense will more or less x the bush there

Do not worry about the bush losing part o the powdeor about it being somewhat fattened due to you pressin place

Remember that bushes can grow vertically on suracestoo so i you wish to obtain that eect just use one or twodrops o cyanoacrylic glue (superglue) on the wall or verticalsurace you want the bush to ldquogrowrdquo and connect the bushwith it

It will immediately stick to it strongly due to the humidity olichen reacting to the superglue

With this kind o superglue be very attentive to your eyesand ngers while using it And be also careul i some othe superglue touch your gloves as not make it touch thebushes

Usually I do use the tweezers to manipulate the lichen bothin the watervinavil solution and when placing them on thediorama The tweezers are also easier to wash and cleanaterwards (any strong glue can be taken away with somecutter once dry)

Once the bush is placed take the bottle o ne and clearpowder and let some o it rain on your vegetation Donrsquotdrop too much o it you just need to cover the zones wherethe bush lost its color due to your positioning it in placeDue to the still wet nature o the lichen with the watervinavilmixture the powder will stick to it easily and permanently

Now repeat the process with another bush and thenanother one etc up until all bushes are placed on yourwork

You might have guessed that i you do not work a ewbushes at a time those will get dry And bushes once canrsquot be really manipulated and worked on easily makthe ldquoreal-lookingrdquo process much more diicult

When all bushes are placed and ully dried use a xintransparent opaque spray to x better the powder whicdidnrsquot stick ully to the lichen

Donrsquot spray too much else you will make the bushes ltoo dense and compact

To dispose o the excess powder still around turn upsdown the diorama and hit lightly with your hand its bathe powder to all naturally

For a multi-panel diorama o course proceed one pantime allowing you to get the nal result shown in thosepictures

Unlike grass which is in the end quite simple to realizerecreating a rich and realistic overall green area ull obushes is quite another matter both due to the necesdrying time o your bushes both due to the merging aplacing o the bushes to reach a good result which tsheighten the beauty o) your diorama

Painting and sculpting or me are very dierent sides o thelsquosame coinrsquo When sculpting a gure I always try to imaginehow it will look when it is nally displayed and try to makethe piece as easy and pleasurable to paint as possible Irsquovenever considered mysel a particularly great painter and ndit very diicult at times usually making judgements basedon intuition rather than prescribed techniques Irsquom generallyitching to sculpt when Irsquom painting and nearly always wish I

were painting what Irsquom only halway through sculptingwhere Do you like to get your iNsPiratioN

Inspiration can come rom many dierent and disparatesources I generally avoid looking at other modellers workor inspiration relying instead on more abstract elementsto kick-start an idea Scenes in movies passages romnovels and pieces o music walks in orests ragmentso memories or dreams and even birdsong can all beconsidered inspiring I not in the literal sense then more inthe initiation o the creative process

what three tiPs woulD you give the buDDiNg sculPtor or

PaiNterThe most important three tips I would give the buddingsculptor or painter would be to practice practice andpractice Seriously though practice is invaluable howevermuch experience you have Just because you havemastered a new technique donrsquot expect to be able to cast itover your gures like a magic wand or instant perection Itis essential to keep all o your skills up to date and not to bearaid o trying new methods or ear o ailure

Furthermore only paint or sculpt what you enjoy Beingtrue to yoursel and your interests will show through in yourwork I see excellent painters and sculptors talents subdued

because they are painting or sculpting what they think theyshould rather than letting go and having un

Lastly get up and go out There is nothing like a good strolland a ew gulps o resh air to get the brain working andthe creative juices fowing Spending all o your time atyour desk or your computer diminishes your lsquoworldrsquo I not alengthy hike then just a walk round the block every now andthen will give you a well earned break so you can return toyour modelling with a resh eye

Takeya is one o the most original creative minds o ourgeneration I you are ortunate enough to spend time witha copy o his two-volume book o works Ryoshi no Kakudo(Angles o Hunters) contained within are not only Takeyarsquosincredible commercial pieces but also a rich antastic story

illustrated with amazing lielike dioramas For me Takeyachanged the way I perceived model making and encouragedme to think and try to work outside the conventions otraditional sculpting and painting

Irsquove never had any ormal training as a sculptor I have adegree in illustration and during my nal year I produced anumber o lsquothree dimensional illustrationsrsquo I had been modelmaking or a number o years beore then but this was myrst real oray into ull sculpting and scratch building Atergetting a taste or sculpting I continued trying dierent

me they are all just techniques or tools orthe painter to use as part o their arsenalI personally donrsquot believe a modelsrsquo worthshould be determined by how well alsquoglowing eyersquo eect or NMM armour hasbeen executed but rather by how well thepainter has incorporated those techniquesinto the piece and contribute to the overallsuccess o the piece

I have noticed recently that there now seems to be areaction against the pristine nishes everyone spent smuch eort trying to master Dirtier weathered painteexpressive paint jobs may be considered lsquoone to watchemulating the works o artists such as John Blancheand evoking an lsquoold schoolrsquo atmosphere Techniquesas ashions come and go and on their own stand todemonstrate the painters ability to master said techniqbut or me the lsquonext big thingrsquo will always be a beautiu

realised and engaging model regardless o the techniqemployed in its execution

Regarding my previous answer non-metallic metal is atechnique and in the hands o a good painter can dispa huge amount o patience and skill For me howevernon-metallic metal has never really appealed to me orsuits the way that I tend to work It is sae to say that I increasingly obsessed with the reproduction o convinrealistic metallic suraces and will go to great lengthspolishing burnishing and painstakingly applying gold ltry to achieve the right look I like to be able to view a

rom all angles and let natural light play upon suracestextures In my opinion non-metallic metal can reduce eld in which the gure can successully be viewed

wheN aND how DiD you start iN the hobby

It is diicult to pinpoint an exact start point as there areprobably a combination o elements that rst initiated myinterest and passion or the hobby One o my earliestrecollections o exposure to miniature gures as a boy wason a trip to the city centre with my dad There was a storein a small shopping arcade with a window crammed withall manner o miniature gurines Mostly historical subjectsGreeks Egyptians and Carthaginians (I remember the

elephants) with other such gems o antiquity I think I wasprobably old enough to know that these were not toys butsomething dierent more precious

Later I stumbled upon a store called Games WorkshopThis was at a time when GW was an independent retailerand stocked everything rom Dungeons and Dragons toplaying cards and jigsaw puzzles Therewas a small cabinet within crammedwith miniatures Somewhat crude bytodayrsquos standards they seemed seriousand exotic adult dark coloured metalgures languishing in blister packs

on a bed o oam (ahh the nostalgia)Ater buying a ew gures I was hookedand soon I attended my rst GamesDay in 1986 It was there I discoveredminiatures rom many dierentcompanies Grenadier Dixon Essex andRal Partha some o which I still ownand have recently been painting someo the old avourites Over the ollowingyears my thirsts or model making leadme to explore beyond the realms ominiatures and into other areas o thehobby and the rest is history

Do you sketch out your iDeas for a

figure before you start

Beore I start a model be it eithersculpting or painting I usually spendan unhealthy amount o time thinking about it rst Irsquollthen very quickly make several thumbnail sketches andnotes to coagulate the various elements o my ideas andinspirations When sculpting Irsquoll work these thumbnails intoresolved conceptual images and diagrams to help map theidea and the orm o the piece I never used to use sketchesand ound that I would abruptly come to a rustrating halthalway through a piece not knowing what to sculpt next

because I hadnrsquot properly planned the gure Because othis I am now astidious in my preparation o any new pieceo work

Ever since I rst saw the Forgeworld Large Space Marine

I wanted to do some kind o conversion on it I ound itdisappointing that Forgeworld had basically scaled-upSpace Marine miniature rather than using such a largegure to really explore the marine design Irsquod had one kits or a ew years and periodically made some notesthe conversion None o the notes had ever been chapspecic but I had always been drawn to the iconograpo the Dark Angels and Black Templar chapters as theleaned towards a very medieval styling with their robe

swords something that appealed to me However I reearly on in the project that I would really like to use themarine to try out some new techniques and that it woube prudent to choose a less ussy and complex stylingUltramarine was eventually decided upon as they are a lsquovanillarsquo and iconic chapter requently used to encapsthe idea o the Space Marine

The Ultramarine was such a huge project and i I did hthe luxury to revisit the idea o another Marine I wouldto do something completely dierent with the kit one oTraitor chapters or a pre-heresy suit perhaps

I never really sit around and admire my pieces as I amalways striving to improve and learn rom my worksAlthough I have won awards or some o my pieces owhich I am immensely honoured I donrsquot linger on thosgures as Irsquom always looking towards the next sculpt TUltramarine was in retrospect a huge undertaking intowhich I put an incredible amount o time recording theprocess The Dragonslayer too was a real labour o lovsomething o an emotional roller coaster Winning BesShow brought closure to such a diicult piece

hwhat Does the future holD for gigaNtic MiNiatures

Gigantic Miniatures has been an incredible learningexperience and great un so ar Partly setup to satisy mythirst or knowledge and experience about all areas o thehobby and partly to exorcise some ideas Irsquove had gnawingaway at me about producing large scale gures

When I initially launched GM it was a very hectic timeor me having just won Best o Show at EuromilitaireObviously I didnrsquot oresee this and in hindsight this probablywasnrsquot the best time or me to do this as there was a hugeexpectation or me to create the same type o gures that Ihad done or my display and competition pieces

I chose 120mm gures as I was used to sculpting in thisscale and it was a size I had become lsquoknownrsquo or However

my uture plans or the range included some huge piecand at 115 scale the gures would have been massivand very expensive to produce In addition I was doingeverything mysel rom the conceptualising and sculptto the casting web design and marketing Once the lagure was released the range came to a natural end amark this I produced a lsquoshow onlyrsquo limited edition gureFigureworld 2011 which completely sold out in about tminutes

Gigantic Miniatures is ar rom over though I am curreworking incredibly hard sculpting a brand new rangeo antasy gures They will continue my passion or

classic antasy lsquostandardsrsquo with human and demi-humaadventurers accompanied by all manner o enemies amonsters Stylistically I want to give them an old-schoowith a contemporary twist classic dungeon crawl charealised or a modern audience

Irsquom creating the gures at true 135 scale too so an avhuman gure will be about 50 mm tall This is a challeor me and Irsquom very pleased with my progress so ar W

135 Primarily the reason or this scale decision is or meto expand the range to include some truly gigantic beastsand terrain pieces without them being ridiculously hugeor expensive Furthermore I think rom the comments I

received over the previous range that they will be morecomortable to build and paint Not too large or a miniaturepainter to eel intimidated by and have to change theirtechniques or and not too small that people rom otherareas o the hobby would eel that they were exclusivelylsquogamingrsquo gures Lastly they will be easier or me to produceand will give me a chance to really push the boundaries othe mould making and casting process to deliver very highquality aordable gures Irsquom very excited about the newrange and really looking orward to release sometime in thenew year

what was it like to wiN best of show at euroMilitaire

Winning Best o Show at Euromilitaire has to be one o thehighlights o my modelling career so ar I really like the Euroshow and or the past ew years it has become the ocus omy working year I never intend to sculpt a piece specicallyor competition it just turns out that Irsquoll produce a coupleo display pieces during the year and usually get themnished in time or the competitions held in the autumn

Dragonslayer was no exception only a little more thougwas put into the engineering o the piece as it had to btransported in a couple o pieces and assembled in thhotel the aternoon beore the competition

Irsquove never created or entered a piece o work into Eurowith the intention o winning anything I see it as a waydisplaying pieces Irsquove been working on over the last 12months and what is more important than to get a chanto see some truly astounding work by many many taleartists The competitive element always makes me eeslightly nervous on the morning the results are displayand this time or no good reason I elt particularly agiSo much in act that I had to send my wie to the comproom while I stayed in the trade hall She came back la little shaken and told me I had been awarded Best oShow I remember standing there with tears rolling dow

my ace in utter disbelie The rest o the day was a bita blur and it took a ew weeks or it to properly sink in never imagined a antasy piece would ever be awardeBest o Show at Euromilitaire let alone mine It was a day not just or me but antasy modelling had nally brecognised accepted and awarded at what is considea predominantly military and historical internationalcompetition

Wamp is a miniature painting website that has been in various orms since 2005

History

It was originally known as lsquoA modellers Paradisersquo anset up by Brett Johnson as an ebay group In its originait was very basic with little orum structure and the activities were limited It was in these early days hothat one o Wamprsquos most amous eatures was estabthe Wamp Monthly painting contests It was later on ion eBay that the group changed name to WargameMiniaturersquos Paradise to create a more descriptive title

On the 26th November the group ound a new homrelocated to a dedicated orum based site at www

The removal o independent news and review sites the other hand really sucks eggs TGNrsquos coverage oindustry is (to me) no longer valid and has been remas a bookmark

I have gotten much better at takinggood photographs but Well assome o you may have noticed I amnot quite there yet

I have a Panasonic Digital Cameraand I was thinking o buying a tripodor it to help stabilize it I plan to sell aheck o a lot on ebay in the next yearand need to take the absolute best

pics that I can That said I donrsquot wantto break the bank and buy somethinguber expensive

thetang22All the tripod is going to do is keep your camera still whilegiving you a variety o angles I have a cheap-o tiny tripodthat came with my camera All you have to do is set thedelay to 2 seconds on the tripod click the button and let go

I canrsquot imagine there are any signicant advantages thatwould justiy the cost o a ancy tripod over somethingcheap but having any tripod will provide advantages
