Quick News Superintendent’s Thoughts
Dr. Gretta Kumpf
This morning , before the start of the work day, my staff at the Board of Education arrived with dozens of cookies and other snacks. It is part of an office tradition and one I truly value. We assemble and deliver holiday cookie trays to each of our schools, bus garage, and maintenance department so our colleagues know how much we appreciate them. It is our small way of spreading holiday cheer and saying thank you for all you do to make our district outstanding and being a part of our tradition of excellence. We also deliver the cookie trays to our Tipp City partners such as the police and fire departments, library, and Tipp Monroe Community Services. It is our way of reminding the organizations and their employees that we appreciated all they do to keep our community a safe, wonderful place to live and work. Traditions bring people together, build bonds, and foster a sense of belonging. These rituals need not be large or flamboyant to have significance, meaning and a positive impact. And, who doesn’t enjoy a cookie or two especially at this time of the year?! It is yet another example that puts a smile on our faces knowing “WE are TIPP! TOGETHER WE ARE EXTRAORDINARY”
Tippecanoe High School Earns National Recognition Newsweek ranked Tippecanoe High School as a top 5,000 STEM High School. More than 30,000 high schools were analyzed over a three year period. The top 5,000 schools were curated from STEM.org Educational ResearchTM using a proprietary scoring logic that took into consideration a broad set of quantitative and qualitative data inputs collected. This prestigious honor recognizes schools in the United States that have skilled teachers who keep up with developments in the STEM fields and create dynamic learning environments. The purpose was to determine which schools offer their students engaging experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while preparing them for post-secondary success. THS ranked number 1,726 among public schools.
Congratulations to this month’s Super Citizens
Congratulations to the most recent Broadway Elementary School Super Citizens. Teachers nominated these 2nd and 3rd graders for exhibiting the character trait of generosity which can come in the form of volunteerism and kindness to others. The Broadway students are also good examples to others for living the principals of the district’s PBIS. They know how to be responsible, be respectful, and have integrity.

Nevin Coppock Kindergarten Students Perform Holiday Program
Nevin Coppock kindergarten students did an amazing job performing at their Holiday Program. They knew all of their lines, the words to many songs, and the hand movements to accompany each piece. Thank you to their music teacher Jennifer Wightman who does a wonderful job creating this memorable event and nurturing a love for music in young children!

Kindergarten Students Decorate the Fire Station Christmas Tree
Nevin Coppock Elementary students walked to the Tipp City Fire Station with their handcrafted Christmas ornaments to decorate the station’s tree located in the main lobby. This just might be one of the cutest Christmas trees in Tipp City. Thank you to the department for the warm welcome and the delicious cookies!

Helping Others
Members of the Tippecanoe High School Interact Club volunteered their time to brighten the holiday season for others. Earlier this month the students went to the Dayton Masonic Temple to help distribute gifts with the Marine Toys for Tots. The program provides toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.
Tippecanoe Middle School staff raised close to $14,000 participating in the Ezra J. Hartke Race for Hope! The money goes to fund cancer research at Dayton Children’s Medical Center. Ezra was the great nephew of TMS principal Greg Southers. He passed away from brain cancer at the age of 4. Mr. Southers wrote, “ TMS had the largest team participate in this event. We had more people either donate, run, or buy a shirt than any other group. I am sure not everyone made it into the picture but I would love for our community to see how much the middle school staff gives back. It was a tough day for my family but when you have people like this that you work with, it made it a great deal better. Many times test scores or other things are the items that get recognized and things like this go unnoticed. For Ezra's mom and dad, this was huge.” Ezra’s dad, Phil Hartke, and siblings are Tipp graduates. Mr. Southers said this another example of how the community came together to support each other.
TMS Staff Raises Record Amount for Nonprofit
Volunteer opportunities for "Tippecanoe High School - Basketball Concessions 2019 / 2020" are now open.
Parents Who Care is looking for volunteers to sell concessions at the home basketball games for both boys and girls teams. New this year, senior students can record the time spent volunteering for PWC concessions as part of their required community ser-vice hours.
All concessions proceeds are used to support student activities at Tippecanoe High School, including the Powder-puff Football Game meal, Homecoming Bonfire, other student activities, Prom Red Carpet, and the AfterProm. PWC’s largest activity, the After-Prom is a fun, safe activity for all juniors and seniors (and their guests), whether or not they attend prom.

Free Magic Show for students and their
families
December 12
7:30 PM
LT Ball Intermediate You are invited to a night of magic and generosity the whole family will enjoy. Be inspired by nationally known magician and storyteller John Michael Hinton. HIs magic will amaze you and his storytelling of the season will warm you heart. Even Santa
Claus plans to make a visit. You are also invited to donate items that will help spread holiday joy to families hardest hit by the tornado. Suggested gifts include new hats, gloves, socks, underwear, toys, stuffed animals, dolls, games and puzzles.
Sponsored by Thrivent and Tipp City resident Matt Beuhrer. Both are also sponsoring an anti-bullying school assembly for Tippecanoe Middle School students. Through magic, comedy, and audience participation, Hinton encourages youth to stand
up against bullying and use encouraging words to be a real friend!
