Today we are celebrating the Feast of the

Epiphany also known as Little Christmas

and Three Kings Day. Epiphany, which

in Greek means ‘manifestation,’ is about

God becoming known to all peoples. From the start, Je-

sus, though sent to His own, is meant to draw all peoples

to God and bring all peoples to salvation. Jesus is, indeed,

“a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for your

people Israel” as Simeon prophesied to the Holy Family at

    the Temple (Luke 2:32).

There are many people to acknowledge and thank

for their goodness and generosity this Christmastide.

First, I thank the individuals who had a hand in the deco-

ration of our church. On the Monday prior to Christmas,

Barbara Talerico, Jean Nadeau, and Deborah and Bryan

Hocking arranged our crèche. On the morning of Christ-

mas Eve our flower crew under the guidance of Jennifer

Light foiled the pots and arranged the poinsettias with the

aid of Mary Ellen Cesca, Brenda Farrah, Allen and Trevor

Light, and Barbara Talerico. Custodian Tim O’Leary was

at hand to lift, carry, and clean up after the process. Mike

Halas and son, Mike, hung the wreaths for us as they do

every year. We cut the amount of wreaths and eliminated

roping and some plants to economize in this uncertain

    year.

Before I leave decorating, I want to acknowledge

the members of the Men’s Society who spent a Saturday

morning setting up the outdoor crèche, trees, roping,

wreaths and lights. Bob Bailey, Carl Eilers, Bryan Hock-

ing, Patrick Larkin, and Ralph Petrellese make a great

team. They have figured out who works on what and eve-

rything happens with efficiency. I forgot. We had one

young woman on the project, Jenna Petrellese, who assist-

    ed.

I thank all of the parishioners who sent greeting

cards to the rectory or who brought us treats. Thank you

for thinking of us and for expressing your warm wishes.

The Christmas Liturgies require a number of play-

ers to make them happen smoothly. We were a little

stretched this year due to the addition of Masses, but

through the kindness of many we had ushers and lectors

for every Mass. I thank them. I thank Michael Falbo for

assisting me at the Midnight and 10:30 Masses. We have

adjusted to Mass without servers, but Christmas is one of

those times when servers are a big help. I thank our musi-

cians, Glen and Nancy and our cantors who, in the ab-

sence of the choirs which we are used to, still offered us

    beautiful music of the season.

I want to thank all of our parishioners who coop-

erated with our reservation system for the Masses. I hope

we never have to go through that again! I don’t know

how parishes with limited seating do it yearly. Putting the

whole reservation process into effect and then planning

  • EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

    ANGEL TREE

Due to your generosity we were able to bring joy to at least 250 men, women and children in our community. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and consid-eration each year!

A Safe and Happy New Year!

    —-Parish Life Committee

out seating so as to best maintain distancing was the work

of Marty Carangelo with MaryAnne Blount assisting him.

Everyone who requested a seat received one. We had ex-

cellent control over who was present and are in a good

position for tracing. The post Christmas analysis reveals

that we had a total of 423 people in attendance over the

course of the 5 Masses in English. We had 487 people

request seating, so planning five Masses with a capacity of

100 was the right decision. The fact that 65 folks didn’t

come worked to keep more distancing.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to every-

one who was so generous to the parish. If not what it usu-

ally is, the Offertory is really quite excellent under the

circumstances. Thank you to everyone for your love

which you express in your support of the parish.

    Merry 10th day of Christmas!

    —-Fr. Mecca

Community Concerns—-sends best wishes to the St. Pe-ter community for 2021! It has been a challenging year filled with fear, anxiety, loneliness and loss. However, there has also been the joy of births, marriages and the healing of relationships. We hope all of this brought you closer to our God who loves each one of us completely. May we always show Him our love in return by loving each other without reservation. May 2021 be the year in which we all open our hearts to all that is good- Christ the Light of the world.

The wise men entered into the mystery. They passed from human calculations to the

mystery: this was their conversion. And our

own? Let us ask the Lord to let us undergo

that same journey of conversion experienced

by the wise men. Let us ask him to protect us

and to set us free from the temptations which

hide the star. To let us always feel the trou-

bling question: “Where is the star?” whenev-

er—amid the deceptions of this world—we lose

sight of it. To let us know every anew God’s

mystery, and not to be scandalized by the

“sign” which points to “a babe wrapped in

swaddling clothes, lying in a manger” (Lk 2:12),

and to have the humility to ask the Mother,

our Mother, to show him to us. To find the

courage to be liberated from our illusions, our

presumptions, our “lights”, and to seek this

courage in the humiliey of faith and in this way

to encounter the Light, Lumen, like the holy wise men. Amen.
