ome of you have asked whatutumn is expected to be likeere in El Paso and Las Crucesnd even throughout the countrys some of you are planningall road trips. Below is the 3

You will notice (from the topgraphic) that temperatures areexpected to be above normal forEl Paso, Las Cruces and all ofthe southwest. The above normaltemperatures extend up the Pa-cific coast.
Precipitation is expected be
more difficult to predict. Thecomputer models are indicating"EC" for most of the countrywhich stands for "equal chance."This means that we all have anequal chance to see above,
below or normal precipitation.Perhaps portions of Idaho, Mon-tana and Wyoming are in a better
position to get more.
One other note - as of late Sep-tember, we are approaching 4.0"of rain for the month. We are al-most 2.5" above normal for Sep-tember and only one quarter ofan inch below normal for the en-tire year! Hopefully we'll exceedthe normal for the year shortly.

President Stifler of Forgotten Renegades MC shoots straight and nar-ow throughout our conversation. It could be his military training or
imply just that hes the kind of guy that speaks matter-of-factly and to
he point. His voice becomes more somber when I asked about the
ame of his club. "It refers to all those soldiers that have been forgot-
en, either out in the field or when they return to the States. Alot of vet-
rans don't need someone to say thank you, but just to remember the
eople that might not have been able to come home to shake some-
ne's hand. We want to make the public aware of what soldiers do for
he US." The Renegades are a relatively new club, a little over a year
n existence, that is veteran-centered and look out for veteran's issues.
This run was to benefit specifically a program called Outward
Bound that assists people in recovering from a variety of psychologi-
al issues by using the backdrop of the Colorado Rockies to have their
lients escape their reality and go through a variety of motivational ex-
eriences that can begin a healing process. Clients may go white-water
afting or hiking and camping as part of their recovery program. The
im is that through team-building and getting out into nature with a
eam of similarly experienced people in a non-violent environment, the
lients can begin to open up and heal from their experiences. One of
heir departments specifically handles wartime veterans, many of
whom, because of their service overseas, will have the effects of Post-
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Outward Bound can take the soldiers and do something that can begin
o erase the negative that we go through over there and re-create and
e-direct the teamwork that the Army taught us in the first place. It
osts about $2000 to fully sponsor a soldier on one of these trips and
Outward Bound will be matching whatever we raise today. The pro-
ram also combines wilderness adventures with classroom education
nd group meetings to further aid the soldier and other clients with
heir recovery.
When asked to describe either his or a friends story with PTSD, he of-
ers Sgt. Shaws experiences. She was his leader in his Army group in
raq. He described her as 27 years old, but her experiences belie her
ge. We did multiple deployments together. She was a strong leader.
Received two Purple Hearts, been shot a couple of times. Seen and
one some incredible things. But she had to battle alcohol when she
ame back because her feelings were that no-one would listen and no-
ody would understand. The problem is, when we get out of the mili-
ary, the PTSD does not stop. You still need people to talk to who
ctually understand the struggles and experiences that youve been
hrough. He was happy to report that she has since become much bet-
er and was actually in attendance to the ride.
President Stifler, though young himself, has a very clear vision of
he wants his members to conduct themselves both while wearing
patch and in their own lives. Every person in my club has a job t
from my Sgt. at Arms who watches my back and that of the club,
Every person is expected to do their part. The ladies in our club a
biggest backbone. They are all strong, independent women and th
love to ride with us and support us. Members are watched that thmay party as part of the celebration, alcoholism and drug use are
strictly forbidden. Alcohol is never a solution.
He described how his club and all members are involved at Holid
Retirement, an independent living home where many veterans are
ing. We gave a 96 year old lady a bike ride! There are people in t
that were in World War II. Weve had lunch there with the people
there. It was just a real good time had by all. They loved having u
there, veterans from every branch and every rank.
He described a special patch members wear on their vests featurin
soldier carrying another out of danger. You can watch your frien
back when theyre struggling. When your brother is down, can yo
lend him the money? When hes sick, can you bring him soup? Th
what my clubs about; picking up the lowest man and bringing him
to equal level.

n the upcoming film, Steve Rogers' character will be riding Harley-David-
on's newest Softail motorcycle, the Breakout. Launched to the world in
March, the Breakout makes a modern statement, but harkens back to the
meless aesthetics for which Harley-Davidson is known.
Captain America and Harley-Davidson have had a long and glorious associ-
tion dating back to the introduction of the character in 1939," said Dino
ernacchi, Harley-Davidson Marketing Communication Director. "He's rid-
en different Harleys throughout the history of the character, and his bike for

The parade route took participants nearly five miles from Miller Park to
Summerfest Grounds via Wisconsin Avenue, clocking in more than 32,
collective miles, the equivalent of five round-trip journeys from New Y
Los Angeles. Along the way, tens of thousands of local residents greete
cheered on the parading motorcyclists.
Sixteen-year-old Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) member Parker Ander
from Appleton, Wis., had the special honor to wear the Freedom Jackeing the parade. The Freedom Jacket is a single black leather jacket tha

Silvia Ruiz heads up the 3rd an-nual Fallen Brothers & SistersFoundation run sponsored by theValley Boys MC. I spoke to herand several involved people forhe charity's run in September.
She explained how she beganhe foundation in memory of her
brother Alfonso Ortegon, whowas killed in a motorcycle acci-dent in 2010. The foundation
helps the families of riders whoare injured or killed while ridinga motorcycle. "We helped out akid in Carlsbad after his accidento get a shower chair while he
was in recovery. We were alsoable to pay the family's electric-ty bills that month. We helped
out another family by providinghe food for a reception after the
funeral after he died in a motor-ycle accident."
She explained how the non-
profit foundation does monthlyfundraisers. They regularly re-ceive merchandise from Barnettthat they can either sell or raffleoff. The hope is that they can ex-
pand much farther than El Pasoand be able to help out manymore people. She estimates thatthey've helped out 8 families sofar this year. "We need to get theword out as much as possible sothat when something happens,we are contacted and we may beable to step in and do somethingto help."
Fernie, president of the ValleyBoys, was excited that the runwas getting much more partici-
pation from the public than inearlier years. "I believe that peo-
ple are finding out that this foun-dation helps those in the bikercommunity. It's to help the fami-lies after the tragedies of theseaccidents."
Martha Dickerson volunteers her
time to the run and the founda-tion. She explained that her hus-
band had lost his battle withpancreatic cancer three yearsago. The bike, she says, was theonly way he could feel free. Onthe bike, he could not feel the
pain, couldnt feel the illness. The bike made him feel like hecould live. Though he lost hislife not because of an accident,Martha explained that she com-
pletely understood why the mo-torcycle is so important to the
bikers. What better way to
honor his memory than volun-teer my time to other bikers?
Though not a biker herself, shesees the importance of the ride, and the laws that affect the bik-ers. A lot of car drivers take the
bikes for granted. The bikes
have as much right to be on the
road as the cars do. This fotion takes care of families. it means I give up a few hothat a family later can get thgas bill paid, or maybe get ride paid so that a family m
ber can attend the funeral, thats why Im here!

How Motorcycle Acces-sories Have ChangedLady Bikers
As more women are taking to the road, motorcycle accessory com-
anies have started to take them more seriously, and have realized
hat they are as valid a customer as any man. It is a sign of how seri-usly they take the new market, that they have started to design ac-
essories which have women as the main focus. Accessory
ompanies have been making different sizes available for quite a
while; but now other things are starting to appear to improve riding
onditions, and safety, for women. Below are a few things that show
hat change is taking place.
Helmets
When my wife bought her first helmet, we shopped around for
ays, visiting a lot of motorcycle accessory outlets. Eventually, she
ought one that was not her ideal, but it suited her purpose. Now, if
he wants a helmet, she is as spoiled for choice as me; in fact, she
as more choice. As well as the colors and designs that have ap-
eared for women, they also have helmets that will help them keep
heir hair neat and presentable. I don't remember ponytailed men
aving the option of a helmet to accommodate their hairstyle, but
his shows you the power that female motorcyclists now wield. The
hange in design to fit the female head has made life safer for
women, as well as more comfortable.
Body Armour
This is an area that the improvement for women was long overdue,
ut has finally been addressed. Badly fitting, uncomfortable protec-on is a very bad idea. Lots of bikers have bought such items, only
or them to be forgotten in a cupboard, and women were especially
rone to forgetfulness because of their body shape. Simply buying a
mall size was never going to work, and the shapes of protective
ests and back protection have had to change. Shorter, tapered ver-
ions are now available, and afford much better protection and com-
ort.
Fashion Accessories
Male bikers have always been fashion conscious, even though they
would disagree. Any motorcycle shop you visit will have differentesigns of helmets, jackets, and boots, along with bandanas, wrist
traps, and sunglasses for men. Now, specific accessories are aimed
t making ladies feel good while riding. If a female biker wants to
ook a bit more feminine, the use of Gore-tex has made that easily
chievable; clothing is now available in different styles to the usual
eathers, and clumpy protective wear. Tank bags and hip purses are
ecoming gender specific, as they are designed with different sexes'
eeds in mind. Whether you want something that is going to care for
our hair, or will accommodate the higher heels available on
women's motorcycle boots, there will be something to suit the ladies.
Now that women are being catered to in the way they are, it could
even mean that men who wanted to have a motorcycle in the pa
will now be allowed to. If their partner sees that a motorcycle c
as much fun for them, they may actually be the first to buy one;
more power to them if they do. Riding a motorcycle is now the
main of both sexes, and whichever sex you are; you should hav
cess to the right accessories.
