june 2012 Hello and welcome to The Pentecostals of Sydney where you can experience new life in Christ! Contending for the Faith The book of Jude begins with an exhortation to the Church to contend with earnestness, struggle and determination for the faith or body of beliefs that was once delivered to the saints (Jude verse 3). In a world of political correctness and the blurring of moral absolutes, this seems irrelevant and incompatible. Even in Christendom, where unity and compromise is the order of the day, this command finds little acceptance and is considered archaic and incongruent. But is that really the case? Do we now deny the absolute authority and truth of the Word of God because we don’t want to offend anybody who doesn’t see it the way that we do? Of course not! Jude reminds us that not only are we to believe the truth and make decisions based on the truth that have eternal consequences but he also says that we have to fight for it. Some may argue however, that truth does not need anyone to fight for it since truth is truth; it will speak for itself and can never be eliminated. What Jude is telling us is that we have to fight for ourselves to believe it, keep it, uphold it and preach it against opposing forces and voices that contradict our beliefs; the Apostles’ doctrine. “For there are certain men crept in unawares…” (Jude 4) who will try to deviate us from the true doctrine of Jesus Christ. The New Testament is replete with emphatic warnings against false teachers and false teaching: Acts 17:11, 1 Tim 4:1-6, 1 Tim 1:18-20, 2 Tim 2:15-18, 2 Tim 4:3-4, 2 Peter 2:1-3, 1 John 4:1. False teachers and teachings that are not just in the world because we know that there is a lot of deception out there but the warning is that false teaching is constantly coming into the Church and attacking the faith of God’s people. If you are not convinced as to the importance of true doctrine please refer to these scriptures: Mat 7:15-23; Mat 24:10; Mk 22:23; Acts 20:25-31; Rom16:17-18; Gal 1:6-9; Col 2:8,18-19; 2 Thes 2:1-12; 1 Tim 1:3-7; 1 Timothy 4:8,16; 1 Tim 5:3-10; 1 Tim 6:20-21; 2 Tim 3:1-9; 2 Tim 4:1-5; Tit 1:9-16; 2 Pet 2:4-22; 2 Pet 3:14-18; 1 Jn 1:18-27; 1 Jn 4:2-6; 2 Jn 7-11 It has been emphasized time and again in scripture because it is a matter of our eternal destiny. Truth will save us and bring us eternal life. Falsehood will condemn us to eternal torment. It is as simple as that because the Bible makes no concessions for anything else. Even sincerity will not save you since you can be sincere and be sincerely wrong. Only obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ will save. This does not mean we should approach people who don’t believe the teachings of the Apostles and Prophets by condemning them and proclaiming their errors. This is rarely effective. We must still employ wisdom in soul winning and be led by the Spirit of God to lead to the truth those who are open. However, we must never be apologetic or cower back in fear when we are required to share the truth. But ‘he that winneth souls is wise” Prov 11:30. Let us not seek to start arguments and debates, although this may sometimes be the effect of standing for truth, but let us be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Let me end this article with the grave warning and deep concern of the Apostle Paul in Acts 20:29-31 “29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.” We must earnestly contend for the faith. Study His Word and be ready to speak the truth in love. Pastor Stan Harvey June Handout Guide Page 2. Upcoming Events Page 3. May Sermon Notes Page 4. Calendar Page 5. POS Ministries

Hello and welcome to The Pentecostals of Sydney where you can experience new life in Christ!

Contending for the Faith

The book of Jude begins with an exhortation to the Church to contend with earnestness, struggle and determination for the faith or body of beliefs that was once delivered to the saints (Jude verse 3).

“For there are certain men crept in

unawares…” (Jude 4) who will try to deviate us from the true doctrine of Jesus Christ.

If you are not convinced as to the importance of true doctrine please refer to these scriptures:

Mat 7:15-23; Mat 24:10; Mk 22:23; Acts 20:25-31; Rom16:17-18; Gal 1:6-9; Col 2:8,18-19; 2 Thes 2:1-12; 1 Tim 1:3-7; 1 Timothy 4:8,16; 1 Tim 5:3-10; 1 Tim 6:20-21; 2 Tim 3:1-9; 2 Tim 4:1-5; Tit 1:9-16; 2 Pet 2:4-22; 2 Pet 3:14-18; 1 Jn 1:18-27; 1 Jn 4:2-6; 2 Jn 7-11

It has been emphasized time and again in scripture because it is a matter of our eternal destiny.

Let me end this article with the grave warning and deep concern of the Apostle Paul in Acts 20:29-31

“29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”

We must earnestly contend for the faith. Study His Word and be ready to speak the truth in love.

May Sermon NotesThis is a new segment we are adding to the monthly handout. Following will be quotations from the sermons preached throughout this past month to help you reflect on what God has shown us in His Word and what is in store!

True Worship Pastor Stan Harvey | 6 May 2012 | Sunday AM

“True worship involves worshipping Him from your inner being and in Biblical truth.”

“Worship is putting God in His rightful place.”

“You cannot seek Deity and always maintain your dignity.”

The King’s WordPastor Stan Harvey | 6 May 2012 | Sunday PM

“God’s Word is powerful but it can be nullified in our hearts. When His Word comes to us we have a choice to either neutralize it through unbelief or continue to give it life through our faith.”

God Can Take the Least and Make the MostRobyn Harvey | 13 May 2012 | Sunday AM

“Hopelessness is selfishness. Hopelessness focuses so much on self that it cannot see anything else.”

“If you give the little that you have to God, He will take care of your needs.”

Beyond The Last CakeAsst. Pst Jena Grech | 13 May 2012 | Sunday PM

“There is nothing more crippling in your life than fear. Satan uses fear in our lives; fear of debt, fear of loss, fear of the unknown. But if you look through the Bible God says, over 75 times, ‘Fear not!’ Put your trust in God.”

Building Your Life: Foundation of SalvationPastor Stan Harvey | 20 May 2012 | Sunday AM

“Only the salvation provided by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross can bridge this chasm between us and God. Only the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus has the power to stamp out our penalty for eternal death.”

Act Like ItPastor Stan Harvey | 20 May 2012 | Sunday PM

“Since God is worthy of such praise, I’m going to act like it! Since it cost so much for God at Calvary, I’m going to act like it! Since sin is beneath as a child of God, I’m going to act like it! God has already won the battle all we have to do is act like we’ve got the victory!”
