Remote and Flexible Learning Term 2
We are certainly living in challenging and different times and I know we will always remember this time for the rest of our lives. I’d like to thank you all for the way you have embraced Remote and Flexible Learning and your cooperation as we work our way through the next few weeks. The overwhelming feedback I’m getting is that the communication with teachers and Education Support staff is great. Please, if you are having issues with some of the tasks contact your child’s teacher. Helen and I are available to answer questions and help you between the hours of 9:00am-4:00pm.
Planning Meetings
I have attended all the planning meetings of our various teams this week as they develop tasks and activities for the next week of Remote and Flexible Learning. In all meetings there was a review of how the previous week had gone and strategies that could be done to improve the way we work in the future. These reviews will continue right throughout the Remote and Flexible Learning process. Please remember, while the tasks you are receiving follow the outline of the Term’s work they are basically designed to keep our children engaged in school. Don’t become anxious if something doesn’t work today by working together we can work through any difficulties you are having.
Camps, Sports, Excursion Funding Applications - (CSEF)
Due to the current circumstances around COVID 19 some families may now be eligible for a Health Care Card.
If you think your family is eligible, please inquire through Centrelink. Once you receive a Health Care Card please contact the office in regards to applications for CSEF. All applications must be received prior to June 28th 2020.
Specialist Teaching Packs - Term 2
Families in Years 3-6 have been able to pick up Specialist Teaching packs through the drive through this morning and families who are using hard copy can pick up on Friday.
I know that the staff and I are looking forward to seeing children back at Eaglehawk North in the future. The school is a very lonely place without them.

REMOTE LEARNING! WE GET IT!
Most of us, if not all of us have never
experienced a situation like this in our
lifetimes. So teachers and parents alike
are faced with many new challenges of
how to educate students. Staff are
learning how to remotely instruct and
support their students from home, and some are trying to teach their own
children. Families similarly, are trying to balance home and work commitments with online learning. It is
still early days and we are learning from the fantastic support and feedback from our school community.
The whole school partnership at the moment is at its best!
We’re all get through this together!
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT PROGRAM
RESPECT FOR OTHERS is the focus for our school value work this term.
As I mentioned in my column last week, this will be a term that our students will always remember.
Please focus on what is in your control and how positively you can manage your behaviours, thoughts and
feelings at this time. I have had long discussions at home with my family about the positive things I have
noticed in my neighbourhood. I have noticed families out exercising, riding bikes and walking pets
together. I have seen families in supermarkets respecting each other’s space, shopping for food that they
will be preparing and eating together. I have overheard families looking at nature in gardens and giving
explanations. I have watched neighbours caring for others who are ill, elderly or need special care.
We have had some fantastic team work happening at school with staff pitching in to support others.
Narelle Croft, Karen Nowell and Helen Melgin are in the art room assisting with packing art materials to
go home.
If you have a story of your own to share, I would love to hear it. You can send them to:

Processionary Caterpillar
The processionary caterpillar has been sited again at school this year.
In late summer and early autumn the processionary caterpillar has been known to horrify the odd gardener.
They travel in long lines of hundreds or more in search of food or a suitable
place to begin the transformation into their adult form: the bag-shelter moth.
Keep healthy out there!

Class Dojo and Youtube
Over the coming weeks and months I will be using Class Dojo as my way of communicating with families.
Most of the instructions for the students will come via videos that will be posted on Youtube. You can
subscribe to my Channel so you don’t miss anything, or keep an eye out for when the links are posted to
Class Dojo.
I have had communication with approximately 75 different students in this first week so fingers crossed we
can push that number higher.
Keeping Active
My first video has had a very positive reaction, with plenty of pictures and videos coming back. You can
see from the collage of photos that our students have been engaged on so many activities. It’s great to see
everyone staying active and having fun, which is the most important part of sport. I’ve also noticed lots of
family members joining in as well so the social aspect of activity is also coming into play.
Posting Videos
Just following up some questions regarding posting videos. In my Youtube clip it didn’t mention that to
post a video you must access Class Dojo with a student code, rather than as a parent. If your child is not
aware of their personal code then that is a question for their classroom teacher. We will try to ensure all
students can access this function prior to next week.
On the student page, you will see image 1.
Click on the Grade, and it will take you to image 2.
Click on “Create New” and the options on image 3 will appear.
Once in this mode, you can choose to take a video, or choose one that you have already taken on your
Camera Roll.
From here the video will need to be approved by myself or the classroom teacher.

A reminder that even if you can’t operate the video function, you are still able to direct message myself and
send photos of different activities your child is completing.
Special Mentions
A very special mention to Tyler Wallis and his efforts this week. Couldn’t have done it without him.
