Letter from the Director

I encourage everyone to make an effort to stay active this winter/spring. Weight loss and healthy life-style goals are always popular New Year Resolutions. Major components of a healthy lifestyle are nutrition and physical activity. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends adults get 30 minutes of physi-cal activity per day. The National Academies’ Insti-tute of Medicine recommends 60 minutes of physical activity per day in order to experience weight loss. A major part of the mission of our Parks and Recrea-tion Department is on health and wellness. I invite you to register for one of our many adult fitness clas-ses including Zumba, Yoga and more. They are all great ways to get in a workout, meet new people and have fun doing it! We are also offering a Weight Management program with Kristen Ludwig, RDN, CD-N, CPT of Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers of Avon. The class includes meal planning, reading nutrition labels, healthy eating on the go, physical activity and cooking for weight loss.

In addition to our range of health and wellness opportunities we provide a number of school vacation camps, after school classes, sports and more! I hope that you will utilize the offerings of your Parks and Recreation Department to allow us to help you achieve your goals for 2016!

P.S. Canton Parks and Recreation is now on

Facebook so please be sure to “Like” our page and share it with friends. Facebook will be a great re-source to help keep you up-to-date on happenings at your local Parks and Recreation Office!
