I enjoyed seeing parents at our Back to School Night. You had an opportunity to hear from your child’s classroom teacher and begin to develop an effective partnership that we value so much. This is one of many events that we look forward to seeing you attend. Please come in and experience all that Woodview has to offer. September and early October are months where we begin the process of getting to know your child in a new setting, whether they are returning or brand new to Woodview School. An important part of this process is the October conferences that will be held the week of October 1 st – 4 th . These conferences are focused on goals for your child as we work together to improve learning and student achievement. As parents you are an integral part of making this a success. If you did not sign up for a conference time at Back to School Night, please contact your child's classroom teacher. Please make sure that you fill out the Parent-Information Exchange form sent home today and return it to your child's classroom teacher. We value your input and will work together to make this a successful year for your son/daughter. Goal setting is an essential piece to academic growth and we are committed to working with you as parents to achieve these goals during the school year. I look forward to seeing all of you in the weeks ahead as you attend your child's goal setting conference. We thank you for your patience this past Wednesday as we closed our school due to multiple days of high heat and humidity. Our first and foremost responsibility is to keep our students safe. Our dedicated staff continues to find ways of keeping students cool and focused on their learning. We look forward to the cooler temperatures that Fall will bring. Sincerely, Cathy Santelle

“An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”

September 7, 2012

Dear Woodview Parents and Guardians,

We are off to a great start to our school year.

An important part of this process is the October conferences that will be held the week of October 1st – 4th . These conferences are focused on goals for your child as we work together to improve learning and student achievement. As parents you are an integral part of making this a success. If you did not

sign up for a conference time at Back to School Night, please contact your child's classroom teacher.

We are only a couple of weeks into the new school year, and we have already had so many great events and

activities at Woodview, both in the classroom and in the evening for Woodview families to attend. All of these

events are simply not possible without the help of volunteers and wonderful staff members that give their time and

talents!

We would like to thank the following people for helping this school year get off to an awesome start:

The many Woodview families who came out to enjoy cookies and a beautiful evening on the playground at

the Creative Cookie Social.

Aldona Dziedzic, for preparing five gallons of colorful frosting (!), as well as cookie toppings, for

the Creative Cookie Social!

Traci Parker, of 2t. Spoons, for making 300 cookies (!) for the Creative Cookie Social.

Rachelle Ryan, Woodview parent and owner of Pazazz, a Grayslake gift shop near Center & Atkinson, for

supplying the balloons for the Creative Cookie Social.

Abbie Pietruszynski, Elizabeth Corripio, Cheryl Wilgen, Sandi Hornung, Chris George, Traci

Parker, Aldona Dziedzic, Krista Bean, Angie Stumbo, and Randi Herkey, for setting up, running,

and cleaning up after the Creative Cookie Social.

Traci Parker, Krista Bean, Cheryl Wilgen, and Sandi Hornung, for organizing the distribution of more

than 400 popsicles to Woodview students for the PTO Popsicle Welcome!

Megan Wright, Abbie Pietruszynski, Traci Parker, Sandi Hornung, and Krista Bean for organizing and

hosting the Kindergarten Parent Welcome events. It was great to see so many new kindergarten parents

together at Woodview! Thank you to Mrs. Keegan and Mrs. Barenbaum, Woodview's Reading Specialists,

for joining us and sharing their plans for kindergartners, as well!

The countless kindergarten parents who joined us for the 2012 Kindergarten Parent Welcome and

volunteered to help with many PTO events and fundraisers!

Traci Parker, for taking photos of Woodview's staff for the PTO bulletin board near the school entrance!

Randy Duchane, Aldona Dziedzic, Abbie Pietruszynski, Traci Parker, Brandi Kornit, and Krista Bean,

for organizing and running School Supply Pickup Day! It was an efficient process, and more than 100 boxes

of supplies and nearly 100 backpacks, lunch bags, and accessories were picked up by Woodview families!

Angela Stumbo, Randi Herkey, Abbie Pietruszynski, Megan Wright, and Aldona Dziedzic, for joining

the PTO board members at the August PTO meeting and volunteering their time and effort toward several

back-to-school events, including School Supply Pickup Day, the Popsicle Welcome, and Cookie

Social.

Mrs. Sousa, for her role as PTO Staff Liaison, and her ongoing presence and many contributions at PTO meet-

ings and events.

Mrs. Santelle, for her thoughtful guidance and positive presence at every PTO-sponsored event and meeting.

We feel fortunate to be a part of this learning community with her.

Every parent, family member, and Woodview staff member who has donated their time, talent, or

energy toward a PTO event or fundraiser during the 2011-2012 school year. Together, we have raised

thousands of dollars for Woodview School!

Get out your scissors—it’s time to start collecting those BOX TOPS

again!!

We are beginning our 1st

collection contest for the school year.

Here’s how it works: Clip the Box Tops from hundreds of participating products and

send them to school with your child in a sandwich bag to his/her homeroom teacher. The

homeroom that collects the most Box Tops by October 15th

will win a prize for each child

in that classroom! Plus, the winning class gets to display a “Box Tops Contest Winner”

trophy until the next contest. Fun!

Each clipped Box Tops is worth 10¢ when our school redeems them from Box Tops for

Education.

The PTO will use the money towards a variety of needs for the school such as field trips,

special programs, school equipment, etc. You can also shop at your favorite online stores

through the Box Tops Marketplace® (boxtops4education.com/marketplace).

Our school can earn eBoxTops® with every qualifying purchase you make, at no

additional cost to you!

Thanks for choosing to make a difference for our school with Box Tops!

For questions please contact Virginia Fitzgerald at [email protected]

Clip & save Tyson Project A+ labels.

Turn in the labels to school. Your

school redeems them for cash. Each

label is worth $.26.

Here is another way to earn money for

Woodview. Simply clip the Box Tops

from your favorite General Mills

products and send them to school with

your child!

Chef Tony says, “Back to

school means busy

schedules. Let Market Day

help you get dinner on the

table with ease!”

Did you know that Woodview

collects Campbell’s soup labels? The

labels are worth points and must have

the UPC code in order to be used. The

points can be redeemed for books, gym

equipment, and other items for our

school. Each teacher has a box in the

classroom to collect labels and box tops!
