Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary’s,

We spent 40 days in Lent preparing for the Paschal Mystery. We spent a Holy Week actually reliving it in the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord. We rejoiced for 8

days during the octave of Easter over Jesus’s rising, His triumph over sin, suffering and

death. Now we have the 50 days until Pente-cost to savor the meaning of it all. Christ is

alive. He is truly risen. He is with us now and forever. The Resurrection of Jesus from the dead is our new life, our new reality hence-

forth. It is the turning point in human history, the game-changer for every human being—

man, woman, and child—who has ever lived.

During this time, until His Ascension, our Lord will appear to the disciples many

times. He will assure them of His presence. He will take away all their fears. He will

change their way of thinking, from a merely human point of view to a spiritual one. For example, like all faithful Jews of the time,

the apostles believed that the dead descended to the place called Sheol where they would exist in silence and gloom forever, with no memory of their Creator. The memory of

both the prophets, Elijah and Elisha, who had raised individuals from the dead, afforded

some hope that the dead might somehow re-turn to the realm of the living. But in the Old Testament the hope for Resurrection devel-oped over time. Its foundation sprang from the belief that God is the Lord of life and

death, who can both “kill” and “make alive.” Early prophets caught a glimpse of God’s

plan to send a future Messiah who would raise Israel from death and even destroy the power of death itself. In other words, the

Savior would bring them home after years in exile. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after His death and burial is the ful-fillment of all the Old Testament promises. It

is the ultimate victory of the long-promised Messiah. Our Lord’s rising is the authenticat-ing miracle of the New Testament. From the earliest times, it was proclaimed as a histori-cal event verified by witnesses and preached along with the Cross as a central belief of the baby-Church. Rising from the dead was the greatest of Christ’s many miracles and was definitive proof of His divine mission. The Resurrection proves the truth about Jesus’

words and actions, of everything He said and did. It is the foundation of our Christian faith. If He rose, we will rise. Or as St. Paul writes,

“If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile.” (1 Cor 15:17). Let this be our hope as

we continue to move out of the pandemic.

FULFILLMENT

  It is interes ng that during the Easter season, when we do not hear a reading from the Old Testament, it becomes so important. This is par cularly true today. Peter’s speech begins with a prayer formula familiar to Jews: “The God of Abra‐ham . . .” (Acts 3:13). It likewise contains the potent phrases “Holy and Righteous One” and “mouth of all the prophets” (3:14, 18). Peter was sta ng in no uncer‐tain terms that the law, psalms, and prophets had been fulfilled in Christ. This is reinforced by Jesus himself in the Gospel passage, when he states that every‐

thing in the scriptures (to the early Chris ans “the scriptures” were what we call the Old Testament) had to be fulfilled. Above all, Jesus and Peter both emphasize that we are witnesses to all of this, and are sent forth to bear witness to it in the world. The La n Missa, from which our word “Mass” comes, means “sent” (as in “mission”). As we leave Mass today, let us remember to be witnesses to all that

FEAST OF FAITH The Second Reading

  The Liturgy of the Word generally follows a consistent pa ern of three read‐ings and a psalm. The second reading is always taken from one of the New Testa‐ment epistles or the book of Revela on, and generally is not inten onally aligned 

with either the Gospel or the first reading.   Where would we be without these le ers in which great saints and apostles like Paul, Peter, James, and John share their wisdom and pastoral good sense with the early Chris an communi es? It is in these le ers, even more than in  the Gospel narra ves, that we learn what it means to be church: to live with 

each other, in the world yet not of the world, in these days a er the Lord’s resur‐rec on. Each New Testament le er was wri en by a par cular leader for a par‐cular community at a par cular  me. We are reminded of this at the beginning of the proclama on—“A reading from the le er of Saint Paul to the Ephesians,” or the Corinthians, or the Thessalonians. These texts were shaped by their par c‐ular historical and cultural context, but at the same  me, through the liturgy, these le ers are wri en to us, here, today. They speak to the reali es of Chris‐an living no ma er where—or when—we live. They are truly “the word of the

Pasamos 40 días en Cuaresma prepa-rándonos para el Misterio Pascual. Pasamos una Semana Santa reviviéndola realmente en la Pasión, Muerte y Resu-rrección de nuestro Señor. Nos regocija-mos durante 8 días durante la octava de Pascua por la resurrección de Jesús, su triunfo sobre el pecado, el sufrimiento y la muerte. Ahora tenemos los 50 días hasta Pentecostés para saborear el significado de todo. Cristo está vivo. Realmente ha resucitado. El está con nosotros ahora y para siempre. La resurrección de Jesús de entre los muertos es nuestra nueva vida, nuestra nueva realidad en adelante. Es el punto de inflexión en la historia de la hu-manidad, el cambio de juego para cada ser humano —hombre, mujer y niño— que haya vivido.

Durante este tiempo, hasta Su Ascensión, nuestro Señor se aparecerá a los discípu-los muchas veces. Les asegurará su presencia. Quitará todos sus miedos. Cambiará su forma de pensar, de un punto de vista meramente humano a uno espiritual. Por ejemplo, como todos los judíos fieles de la época, los apóstoles creían que los muertos descendían al lugar llamado Seol donde existirían en silencio y tristeza para siempre, sin memoria de su Creador. El recuerdo de los profetas, Elías y Eliseo, que habían resucitado a personas de entre los muertos, ofrecía alguna esperanza de que los muertos pudieran regresar de alguna manera al reino de los vivos. Pero en el Antiguo Testamento, la esperanza de la resurrec-ción se desarrolló con el tiempo. Su funda-mento surgió de la creencia de que Dios es el Señor de la vida y la muerte, que puede "matar" y "dar vida". Los primeros profetas vislumbraron el plan de Dios de enviar un futuro Mesías que resucitaría a Israel de la muerte e incluso destruiría el poder de la muerte misma. En otras

palabras, el Salvador los llevaría a casa después de años en el exilio. La resurrec-ción de Jesucristo al tercer día después de su muerte y sepultura es el cumplimiento de todas las promesas del Antiguo Testa-mento. Es la victoria final del Mesías prometido durante mucho tiempo. La resurrección de nuestro Señor es el milagro autenticado del Nuevo Testamen-to. Desde los tiempos más remotos, fue proclamado como un hecho histórico verificado por testigos y predicado junto con la Cruz como creencia central de la Iglesia naciente. Resucitar de entre los muertos fue el más grande de los muchos milagros de Cristo y fue la prueba definiti-va de su misión divina. La Resurrección prueba la verdad sobre las palabras y acciones de Jesús, sobre todo lo que dijo e hizo. Es el fundamento de nuestra fe cristiana. Si El resucitó, nosotros resucita-remos. O como escribe San Pablo, "Si Cristo no ha resucitado, su fe es inútil". (1 Corintios 15:17). Que esta sea nuestra esperanza mientras seguimos saliendo de la pandemia.

Evangelio Lucas 24,35-48: Nos relata como los discípulos de Emaús luego de tener ese encuentro con Jesús les daban las noticias al resto de los discípulos de ese encuentro y de como lo habían reconocido al partir el pan. Y ahí reunidos mientras les comentaban Jesús se les aparece por primera vez a los discípulos diciendo “La paz este con ustedes” saludo particular de Cristo resucitado. Y termina con acciones claras que sólo una persona viva tiene, como en tener hambre y estar con ellos físicamente. Aprovechando para enseñarles y aclararle todo lo que tenía que ocurrir. Meditación:, Todo encuentro con Jesús marca y deja huella, así fue como le paso a los discípulos de Emaús, que no pueden quedar callados y vivir de la misma manera luego del encuentro con su Señor, además que nos reta a poder recono-cer a Jesús hoy en día como lo hicieron ellos al partir el pan. Muchas veces a pesar de diferentes testimonios mantenemos dudas, inquietudes, siendo el mismo Jesús que nos confronta y nos pide que lo toquemos, que podamos sentir su presencia que podamos ser testigos de que Él Vive. De manera particular y aún sin necesitarlo Él nos pide algo, en este caso darle de comer, pero que nos estará pidiendo hoy el Señor a cada uno de nosotros y estaremos dispuestos a dárselo. Oración: ¿Qué le decimos al Señor? Señor Jesús te pido me ayudes a poder reconocerte cada día en mis hermanos, en mis situaciones personales, en mi día a día; que siempre pueda tener ese encuentro con mi Dios. Señor quita de mi toda duda, que pueda fortalecer mi Fe, que pueda sentir tus manos y todo tu ser en la Eucaristía, que es donde te sigues presentado actualmente. Ayúdame señor a conocer más de ti, a entender más de ti, para que mi amor por ti sea cada día más grande.

FIESTA DE LA FE

La segunda lectura

La Liturgia de la Palabra generalmente sigue un patrón consistente de tres lecturas y un salmo. La segunda lectura siempre se toma de una de las epístolas del Nuevo Testamento o del libro de Apocalipsis, y generalmente no está alineada intencionalmente ni con el Evangelio ni con la primera lectura. ¿Dónde estaríamos sin estas cartas en las que grandes santos y apóstoles como Pablo, Pedro, Santiago y Juan comparten su sabiduría y buen sentido pastoral con las primeras comunidades cristianas? Es en estas cartas, incluso más que en los relatos del Evangelio, que aprendemos lo que significa ser iglesia: vivir unos con otros, en el mundo, pero no del mundo, en estos días después de la resurrección del Señor. Cada carta del Nuevo Testamento fue escrita por un líder en particular para una comunidad en particular en un momento particular. Esto se nos recuerda al comienzo de la proclamación: “Lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los Efesios”, o de los Corintios, o de los Tesalonicenses. Estos textos fueron moldeados por su particular contexto histórico y cultural, pero al mismo tiempo, a través de la liturgia, estas cartas nos son escritas, aquí, hoy. Hablan de las realidades de la vida cristiana sin importar dónde o cuándo vivamos. Son verdaderamente "la palabra del Señor" para nosotros. —Corinna Laughlin,

CUMPLIMIENTO

Es interesante que durante la temporada de Pascua, cuando no escuchamos una lectura del Antiguo Testamento, se vuelve tan importante. Esto es particularmente

cierto hoy. El discurso de Pedro comienza con una fórmula de oración familiar para los judíos: “El Dios de Abraham. . . " (Hechos 3:13). Asimismo, contiene las

potentes frases "Santo y Justo" y "boca de todos los profetas" (3:14, 18). Pedro estaba declarando en términos inequívocos que la ley, los salmos y los

profetas se habían cumplido en Cristo. Esto es reforzado por el mismo Jesús en el pasaje del Evangelio, cuando afirma que todo en las Escrituras (para los primeros cristianos “las Escrituras” eran lo que llamamos el Antiguo Testamento) tenía que

cumplirse. Sobre todo, tanto Jesús como Pedro enfatizan que somos testigos de todo esto y que somos enviados a dar testimonio de ello en el mundo. En latín Misa, de donde proviene nuestra palabra "Misa", significa

"enviado" (como en "misión"). Al salir de la Misa de hoy, recordemos ser testigos de todo lo que se ha cumplido en Cristo resucitado.

Durante este período estamos celebrando la Pascua o paso de la esclavitud de Egipto a la libertad dada por Dios a través de Moisés. Los cristianos celebramos la Pascua de Jesús y la nuestra. Jesús pasó del sufrimien-to y de la muerte a la resurrección y a la vida. Por el bautismo pasamos de la esclavitud del pecado a la vida de la gracia, de la amistad con Dios. Y cada vez que confesamos nuestros pecados, resucitamos de la muerte que es el pecado, a la vida, a la gracia, al amor de Dios. Tan importante son estos recuerdos y estas verdades que la iglesia dedica siete domingos a la realidad de la Pascua, para que reflexionemos y vivamos este acontecimiento tan trascendente en la vida de Jesús y en la nuestra. Las lecturas de hoy nos ayudan a profundizar en el mensaje de Jesús, dirigido especialmente al testimo-nio, al apostolado en nuestra vida, a la continuación de la obra iniciada por Jesús. El evangelio de San Juan nos cuenta la última aparición de Jesús, en el cenáculo, en la noche del domingo de la resurrección. San Lucas pone énfasis en la realidad física de la aparición (Jesús come en pre-sencia de los discípulos), ya que era especialmente importante para los lectores griegos. La resurrección no era una mera fantasía sicológica sino algo muy real y distinto de todo lo experimentado anteriormente, el evangelista la presenta como algo físico para que el lector se convenza mejor de su verdad. En medio de una comida, al partir el pan, en medio de su conversa-ción, Jesús se hace realmente presente a sus discípu-los, y se sigue haciendo presente hasta ahora en el banquete eucarístico. Los apóstoles sintieron miedo, reacción humana normal ante la presencia extraordinaria de la acción de Dios; el miedo muestra que la resurrección no fue algo inventado o fabricado; era una realidad divina y misteriosa que iban a entender gradualmente según su

capacidad humana. En este evangelio encontramos las últimas palabras e instrucciones de Jesús resucitado en San Lucas; se centran en el perdón que hay u dar y predicar; en la cruz, la primera palabra había sido “Padre, perdónalos…” Par el cristiano, la última palabra al fin del día y de su vida deberá ser una palabra de perdón para quienes lo han ofendido. Hasta ahora, para nosotros, la resurrección es un misterio. Jesús les abrió el entendimiento para que tuvieran una perspectiva más amplia del plan provi-dencial de Dios. Jesús a través de los sufrimientos, pasa a revelarse como el Hombre Nuevo, creador de la Nueva Humanidad, que viene a traer el amor perfecto, el perdón y la conversión a todos, comenzando con sus propios asesinos en Jerusalén. Los discípulos deberás seguir sus pasos e imitar su ejemplo. Jesús comió pescado con los discípulos. El PEZ, que también aparece en la multiplicación de los panes, pronto se convirtió en un símbolo cristiano popular basado en las siglas de la palabra “PEZ” en lenguaje griego: IXZUS=Jesús, XRISTOS= Cristo, ZEOU (de Dios), UIOS (Hijo), SOTER (Salvador). Oremos para que también a nosotros el Señor nos abra el entendi-miento, como lo hizo con los discípulos. Jesús, una vez resucitado, se aparece repetidas veces a sus discípulos para convencerlos de que es El mismo, de la realidad de su cuerpo, de que no es un fantasma, de que ha cumplido su promesa.

Reflexión

Jesús está en el Sagrario, Jesús viene a nosotros en la Eucaristía que estamos celebrando. Vamos a pedirle que nos ayude a ser apóstoles, a ser testigos de su Resurrección ante los demás.
