Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary’s,

One of your New Year’s resolutions might be to pray more. A great example of prayer was Pope St Clement I to the Corinthians. Also known as Saint Clement of Rome, He is said to have been consecrated bishop by St. Peter himself but held office as the third Pope from 88AD to his death in 99AD. He was imprisoned under the Emperor Trajan and was executed by being tied to an anchor and thrown into the sea. He is considered to be among the first Fathers of the Church. Here is his prayer…

We shall pray without ceasing to the Creator of all things, and beg Him to preserve the number of his elect throughout the whole world, through His beloved son Jesus Christ, and not let a single one of them fall away.

Through Him you called us from darkness into light and gave us the knowledge of the glory of Your name. He taught us to hope in You, from whom all creation has its being. He opened our eyes so that we would recognize You, most high among the highest, holy and surrounded by holi-ness. You put an end to the pride of the arrogant, You frustrate the plans of the gentiles, You raise up the lowly and bring down those who are exalted. You give riches and give poverty, You dis-pense both death and life. You succor every spirit, You are the God of all flesh. You behold what is hidden in the depths, You see all that men do. You give help to those in peril and rescue to those without hope. You create all that has breath and watch over it; You multiply the peoples of the earth, and from among them You choose those who love You through Jesus Christ Your beloved Son, through whom You give us wisdom, holiness, and honor.

We beg You, Lord, to be our help and our support. Free us from our troubles; take pity on the lowly; raise up those who have fallen; give help to the poor, health to the sick, and bring home those who have wandered away. Feed the hungry, ransom captives, give strength to the weak and courage to the faint-hearted. Let all peoples come to know that You alone are God, that Jesus Christ is Your Son, and that we are Your people and the sheep of Your flock.

For by Your acts you made visible the everlasting structure of the Universe and set the Earth on its foundations. For all generations You have been faithful and just in Your judgments, and wonderful in Your power and majesty. Wisely You have created, and wisely You have kept things in being. All that we see shows Your goodness; to all who trust in You, You are faithful, kind, and merciful. Forgive us our wickedness and injustices, our sins and our transgressions.

Do not weigh down Your servants with the burden of their sins, but purify us and direct the paths we take so that we go forward in purity and innocence of heart, so that all that we do is good and acceptable to You and to those who lead us.

Come, Lord, let Your face shine upon us so that we may peacefully enjoy all good things. May Your powerful hand be a roof over our heads and may Your strength preserve us from all wrongdoing. Free us, Lord, from those who hate us without cause. Give peace and harmony to us and to all the inhabitants of the Earth, as You gave them to our fathers who called on You with trust and faith.

You alone can give us these gifts and confer these favors on us. We put our trust in You through Jesus Christ, our high priest, the guardian of our souls. Through him be glory and majes-ty to You now and through all generations until the end of time. Amen.

As pandemic lockdowns continue, parents and teenage children are spending more and more time together. It is not always easy to connect with teens, because they often feel their par-

ents do not understand them and prefer to con-fide in their friends instead. Nevertheless, the time at home offers an opportunity for parent-

teen relationships to evolve and for trust to grow in developmentally appropriate ways.

Teens need the guidance and support of a par-ent as an important balance to the permissive understanding of a “friendship” relationship. As children become teenagers, parental authority does not diminish but may be better served by involving the teens in a dialogue about rules

Queridos amigos de Santa Margarita María  

Una de sus resoluciones de Año Nuevo podría ser rezar más. Un gran ejemplo de oración fue el Papa San Clemente I a los Corintios. También conocido como San Clemente de Roma, se dice que fue consagra-do obispo por el mismo San Pedro, pero ocu-pó el cargo de tercer Papa desde el 88 D.C. hasta su muerte en el 99 D.C. Fue encarcela-do bajo el emperador Trajano y ejecutado, atado a un ancla y arrojado al mar. Se le considera uno de los primeros Padres de la Iglesia. Aquí está su oración…

Oraremos sin cesar al Creador de todas las cosas y le rogaremos que conserve el número de sus elegidos en todo el mundo, a través de Su amado hijo Jesucristo, y que no deje que ni uno solo de ellos caiga.

Por medio de él nos llamaste de las tinie-blas a la luz y nos diste el conocimiento de la gloria de tu nombre. Nos enseñó a esperar en ti, de quien toda la creación tiene su ser. Nos abrió los ojos para que te reconozcamos, el más alto entre los más altos, santo y rodeado de santidad. Acabas con la soberbia de los soberbios, frustras los planes de los gentiles, levantas a los humildes y derribas a los exaltados. Das riquezas y das pobreza, dispensas muerte y vida. Tú socorres a todo espíritu, eres el Dios de toda carne. Miras lo que se esconde en las profundidades, Ves todo lo que hacen los hombres. Construir una relación sólida entre padres e hijos adolescentes

A medida que continúan los cierres por la pandemia, los padres y los hijos adolescentes pasan cada vez más tiempo juntos. No siempre es fácil conectarse con los adolescentes, porque a menudo sienten que sus padres no los entienden y prefieren confiar en sus amigos. `Hay muy pocas cosas, en esta vida, que podemos llamar nuestras de verdad. Nuestro nombre es una de esas raras cosas que poseemos, especialmente nuestro buen nombre. Todos apreciamos nuestro nombre y queremos mantenerlo digno y sin mancha. Nadie nos lo puede robar; nos acompaña hasta la muerte y más allá. Parece que el nombre que llevamos refleja nuestra personalidad. El nombre no solamente dice quien soy yo, sino también qué clase de persona soy. Mi nombre habla de mis ideas y de mis sentimientos, de mis actitudes y mis reacciones, de mis acciones e ideales. Mencionemos sólo unos pocos ejemplos; el nombre de Napoleón es sinónimo de genio militar; el de Martín Luther King nos habla de la lucha pacífica por la justicia racial; el papa Juan Veintitrés es compendio de paz, buen humor, sencillez, hospitalidad; Gandhi, Pelé, Cesar Chávez. Cuando mencionamos estos nombres en la conversación o los vemos impresos en los periódicos, no sólo pensamos en las personas que lo llevan sino en ese conjunto de impresiones, imágenes, conceptos, características que van asociados con el personaje. En el Nuevo Testamento los nombres tienen gran importancia y significado. Juan el Bautista, cuya vida y predicación fue un testimonio de penitencia y conversión a Dios, no llevó el nombre de su padre ni de ninguno de sus familiares, sino el que Dios le había reservado, Juan. La gente se preguntaba: “¿Quién será este niño y por qué la mano de Dios estará sobre él?” Nosotros sabemos quién fue: el heraldo de Cristo, la voz que grita en el desierto. Jesús recibió también el nombre de parte de Dios; un ángel le reveló en sueños a José: “Le pondrás por nombre Jesús porque El salvará al pueblo de sus pecados”. En otra parte dice que será llamado Emanuel que significa “Dios con nosotros”. En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús, mirando y dirigiéndose al hermano del apóstol Andrés, le dice: “Tú eres Simón, hijo de Juan; en adelante te llamarás Pedro, que quiere decir: piedra” Pedro, primer Papa, llegó a ser la piedra de cimiento de la Iglesia.

Nosotros como bautizados, tenemos un nombre que al

mismo tiempo es nuestra identificación civil y nuestra identificación cristiana. Nuestro nombre no sólo está en los registros civiles de nacimiento sino también en los libros bautismales de nuestras parroquias. Nuestro nombre, el que nos dieron con el agua del bautismo, tiene un significado: hijo de Dios, discípulo de Cristo. Juan el Bautista vivió el significado de su nombre; Pedro fue fiel a la vocación cristiana que encerraba su nom-bre; Jesús realizó con su vida y muerte el contenido de su nombre, Salvador. Pero no basta tener un nombre, es nece-sario realizar en la vida lo que significa ese nombre. La primera comunidad cristiana comenzó cuando unas personas tuvieron un contacto o una experiencia con Jesús, y luego llevaron a sus amigos y parientes para que tuvie-ran una experiencia semejante: Juan Bautista motivó a dos de sus discípulos, y uno de ellos, Andes, fue a su her-mano. Más adelante Felipe fue en busca de su amigo Nataniel y lo llevo a Jesús. Así fueron reconociendo a Jesús, cada cual por experiencia propia. En el caso de Pedro, se invirtió el proceso: Jesús reconoció a Pedro y le cambio el nombre, para anunciarle que tendría que cambiar su personalidad para su misión futura. Nosotros ahora también debemos llevar a nuestros hermanos y amigos a Jesús para dejar que El los transforme.

Reflexión

Según el evangelio de hoy, los discípulos descubren esa secreta vocación en un encuentro personal con Jesús, compartiendo con El como amigo. “¿Dónde vives?” le preguntan. La experiencia de ese encuentro cambió el giro de su vida de pescadores. Jesucristo vive en medio de nosotros. La celebración de la eucaristía es la celebración de la presencia del Señor, es la respuesta a la pregunta ¿Dónde vives? Aquí encontramos a Jesús, hablamos y comemos con El.

received the Sacrament of Confirma on? 

 

Our St. Margaret Mary Adult Forma on program will begin in February and we invite all Adults      (18 years or older) who have not received the     

Sacrament of Confirma on (and/or First Commun‐ion) to par cipate. Weekly Sessions will be online this year (via Zoom) and will last 10 weeks. We plan to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirma on here at our parish in May. Sessions will be held in  English and Spanish. If you’re interested or would like more informa on please call the Parish Center (310/326‐3364) and register. A Team Member will
