    ~Jesus,Acts 1:8 NIV

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith inChrist Jesus and of the love you have for all the saintsthe faithand love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you inheaven and that you have already heard about in the word oftruth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world thisgospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doingamong you since the day you heard it and understood Gods

grace in all its truth. You learned it from Epaphras, our dearfellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told of your love in the Spirit.

This five-voice fugue iscomposed in three distinct sections, symbolicof the Trinity (the key signature even containsthree flats). The fuguereaches its climax in the third section with arumble in the pedals quoting the hymn tuneone final time. Both our childrens choirs areparticipating in worship this morning: theCarol Choir sings a medley of familiaworship songs; and the Junior Choir sings anew anthem based on passages odiscipleship from the Gospel of Mark. Thiscalendar year marks the 200th birth year ofGe rman Romantic composer FelixMendelssohn.
