news

We most regrettable announce the sad demise of our Rtn Krishan Chand on 23rd January, 2016. He was a Rotarian from 1979 and was chairperson of various community service projects during his membership. He is survived by his wife Sudha and two sons.

Below is a message:

It is indeed very disturbing and sad to learn about the demise of Rtn Krishan Chand. A committed and dedicated Rotarian, always interested in the wellbeing of others and willing to serve as and when asked for. On his inspiration R/Ann Sudha Chand has contributed to Inner Wheel Club and served as President as well. It was Rtn PP Bupendra Shah who gave him to our club and he in turn has dignified the club and Rotary through participation and contribution.

PDG Dr Shirish Sheth

We are sorry to hear Dr Naren Pandya former member and Past President passed away on Sunday, 7th February 2016. He was 83 years old. He was a good friend of Mid-Towners and will be missed by family and friends.

He was a personal physician to the President of India Shri R Venkataraman in

1988. He was also a renowned plastic surgeon and treated many celelbrities and film artists.

He became President of RC Bombay Mid-Town in 1988-89 and had a very lively and eventful year as Rotary President. One remembers ‘The Odyssey-National Factor’ a six-week face-to-face opportunity to interact with leaders in national focus, attracting a large turn-out of Rotarians and guests to our regular weekly meetings. He leaves behind his wife Dr.Geeta and two daughters Sonal and Neesha.

It is with deep regret that we wish to inform that in the January Issue of Mid-Town Bulletin, the name of PDG Dr Shirish Sheth was misspelled on two occassions. We sincerely apologise for this grevious error and vow to uphold the editorial quality that this magazine has historically presented.

The Rotary Club began World Understanding Month in February as a way to promote peace and international understanding between cultures and countries. Rotary Clubs around the globe are asked to plan programs for meetings that will help foster this understanding.

Ideas for the programs may include speakers from other countries or organizing panel discussions with international scholars or exchange students from different countries. It can also be a day for a special project to connect youth of different cultures for a day of service.

So, what does this mean for those of us who aren’t Rotary Club members? Can we still recognize World Understanding Month in February? The answer is yes. The theme for this month is one that we should all work toward every day.

news

In Praise of Rtn Ramgopal MehraThis is a feedback from Rotarians of various Clubs on the news article published in the December 2015 issue of ‘Rotary News’ titled ‘Vintage Rotarians’ on our Rtn Ramgopal Mehra.

The December issue contains as usual captivating articles, the best of which is your write-up on Vintage Rotarians. Is amazing the at the age of 100, Rtn Ramgopal Mehra desires to regularly attend weekly meetings of his club, RC Bombay Mid-Town. The fact that he never attempted to become a president or get any posts in Rotary is laudable. Rtn R Srinivasan RC Madurai Midtown–D3000

The article on Rtn Ramgopal Mehra was truly vintage and inspiring. His candid statement: ‘Rotary First’ has to be followed. I reckon he is one of the only Rotarians who is completing a centenary of living. Let‘s salute him and his indomitable spirit in business life and Rotary. Rtn S Natanagopal RC Madurai West–D 3000

It was a pleasure going through the December issue. I sincerely hope that the article ‘Vintage Rotarians’ inspires some Rotarians who blame their old age for not attending the club meetings PDG Dr Shirish Sheth RI District 3140
