At this point, we are hoping that everyone will contribute something. Even small amounts add up! If you plan to contribute from your 401K account, please initiate the transaction as soon as possible. It takes a week or 10 days for the custodian of your funds to process the transaction and get the check into our mailbox. If your donation does not reach us by Dec. 3, it will be included in next year's Employee Fund Drive. So, let's show our appreciation in a timely fashion and thank those who care for us. You may make your donation by check made out to the Residents Association (memo line to the Employee Appreciation Fund) and place your envelope in the black box next to the door of the RA office. We are located on the third floor just past The Landing. Have questions? Ask your RA officers - Lois Brown, Nadine Hathaway, Sue Regen, Judy Collins or Linda Ewald. Thank you and please be generous! Collington’s Strategic Journey

Quick Update on Health Services Alliance (HSA) Activities

There has been a flurry of activity over the past few

weeks.  Here are a few of the highlights:

The HSA has created a Project Vision Statement.  This statement provides the core tenants that will

guide the design of the Creighton Center.  Open spaces, natural light, homey, community…these are all items

that will inform the work.

A new architect firm has been hired in order to better handle the complexities of

this project.  The new firm is SFCS Architects (www.sfcs.com).  They have been in

existence for over 75 years and focus exclusively on designing spaces and environments

for older adults and they are well known for having a great deal of research to back up

their design ideas.

A design Charette was held on 11/16/2018 with over 45 participants, most of

them residents.  The purpose of the Charette was to have an initial conversation about the

things that are most important in re‐designing the health center.  Participants were asked

numerous questions and were able to “vote” in real time using a special “app” that

individuals utilized via smart phone, tablet or laptop.  One of the clear themes that came out

of the event:  Collington’s culture, sense of community, look and feel should exist

throughout all of Collington, including the Creighton Center.

A survey is being developed that will be distributed to all residents, staff and families of Creighton Center residents.  The purpose is to expand the scope of feedback to more stakeholders.  Be on the lookout for that survey in the coming weeks

Thanks Again!

As mentioned last week, the Pet Committee needs a new chair. Many thanks are now owed to Peg McQuarrie for stepping forward. She will be oriented by both Pats and will undoubtedly do a superb job. I know because anyone who plays bridge as well as

she does, will have no trouble at all managing Collington’s cats and dogs. Thank you, Peg! Next week keep an eye on your mail slots. The Executive Committee just completed a brochure for all residents, old and new. It explains what the RA does and how your voice can be heard. Through housing leaders, committees, and leadership your ideas and concerns will be heard by management and all the way up to the Board of Directors. Copies will be distributed by next Friday to all residents. The brochure will also be used by the welcome committee. Thanks go to many people on this project, but especially to Dave Montgomery for the logo design and to Lindsey Hamilton, our marketing director. She picked up the bill. For those you who missed the Council meeting on Tuesday, I would like to reiterate what is happening with the search for the new Executive Director and the Health Services Alliance. Health Service Alliance Things are moving along on the upgrade of Collington’s health and fitness facilities. The latest step was a two-day design workshop, called a charrette. Stakeholders filled the auditorium both days. I especially want to thank each resident participant for their time and talents. The results of the charrette will be written up in a report by SFCS by the end of the month; the results will be shared with all residents. As soon as the architects are able to come up with preliminary design options, all residents will be surveyed for their views and suggestions. This should happen in early 2019. Executive Director Search The firm “Diversified Search” is moving forward and will hold 2 focus groups next week, one with staff and one with the RA Council Two issues will be explored: 1) what are the future issues, challenges and opportunities ahead for Collington?

This will lead to 2) what are the key competencies, experience/skill sets, and leadership attributes we should be seeking in the new Executive Director? The entire council received invitations and hopefully will be able to attend. This is where the resident’s voices, your voices, will be heard. Talk to your Housing Leaders and Operating Chairs and of course, your Executive Committee. Any questions, you know where to find us after this long Thanksgiving weekend!

Music of the 100 Years’ War

✦ Guillaume DuFay: Missa L’Homme Armé; Supremum set mortalibus bonum ✦✦ Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina: Missa L’Homme Armé ✦

L’Homme Armé, a 15th C French secular song, has only verse: “The armed man should be feared….” Composed anonymously, it spread among commoners and composers, who have featured its haunting, eloquent melody as

a cantus firmus in some forty masses. Beautiful and still eerily relevant today, this is memorable music. [email protected]
