SUBSCRIPTION SERIES ANNOUNCEMENTS: For the 2017-2018 Season we will be continuing our subscriptions to Arena Stage, NSO, NSO-Coffee Concerts, Roundhouse Theater, and PG Philharmonic (BSO at Strathmore and South County Concerts Association have not yet been announced, but interest sheets for these two series have been placed in the trip book; if you are interested, please sign up!) PASSOVER CELEBRATION: Collington is celebrating Passover on Monday, April 10th at 5:20 pm promptly in the Auditorium. The celebration is open to everyone at Collington, and includes a Passover dinner and celebration. You must reserve a place by calling the Dining Room at Ext. 2135 no later than noon on Friday, April 7th, saying (a) how many people are coming, (b) how many of them are outside guests, and (c) what each of them selects as their main course (either brisket or salmon). Residents coming are treated as if eating a regular dinner, i.e., they are charged one meal credit. Any resident bringing any outside guests will be charged $22 for each guest. (There will be no Jewish Friday Sabbath gathering on April 7, because of this Passover Celebration.)

A MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE: The library has a yellow upright file box near the computers that is overflowing with paper. Please help yourself if you need any printing paper. The book selection group is currently gathering authors and titles of "new to us" books for purchase in July. If you have suggestions, let us know. The following people are in this group: Charlie Harvey, Joyce Koch, Joyce Garrison, Barbara Florini, Suzanne Gimbrere, and Barbara Fairchild. MYSTERY BOOK DISCUSSION CLUB: This is an early alert (don’t delay, start today!) to get you started for the Wednesday, April 26 discussion at 4 p.m. in the Board Room. The running rules suggested by Liz Susie – everyone is requested to read any one of the books by author John Sanford in the Collington library, and report on it. If you like his style and want to read a second, please do it. Doesn’t this sound like a new and fun venture? John Geron, phone 7551. SAGE TAI CHI: Master Chang will be on vacation and Tai Chi on Mondays and Wednesdays will be postponed until after April 8. FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS: The Collington Community Outreach Committee has put a new hamper for food outside of the library. Prince George's County has the highest concentration of people needing help. We have contacted the Bowie Interfaith Pantry and they have stated their needs are cans of soup (not chicken) and vegetables (no green beans or corn), cans of fruits, cans of protein (like fish, chicken), and boxes of cereal and rice. SAVE THE DATE: On Thursday, April 6, there will be a 2nd Floor District Meeting in the Game Room! SKIPJACK REGATTA: The Skipjack Regatta is planned for May 27. This year we would like to have District teams, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and the apartments that would skipper our 6 Skipjack Boats. We'd also like to see a women's team that would eliminate the last district team formed. It is hoped that this will create some goodwill competition among the districts. The self-guided tour will be $12, which you will pay at the door and will allow you to explore the mansion, beautiful gardens, and a special exhibition. Have tea or lunch in the café and complete your experience with a stop in the museum shop.

TAKE 5! JAZZ, THURSDAY, APRIL 20, WASHINGTON, D.C.: Will depart from Security at 3:45PM and return to Collington around 7:45PM. Composer and arranger Tadd Dameron, one of the creators of modern jazz, is remembered for just a handful of his many compositions. Paul Combs, saxophonist and Dameron biographer, and his quintet perform some of these well-known pieces along with several never-recorded gems, including some discovered here at the Smithsonian!

Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, as Anna Netrebko reprises one of her most acclaimed roles as Tatiana, the heroine of Tchaikovsky’s opera, adapted from Pushkin’s classic novel. Dmitri Hvorostovsky stars as the title character, who rejects Tatiana’s love until it’s too late. Robin Ticciati, Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera, conducts the revival of Deborah Warner’s staging, which opened the Met’s 2013-14 seasons. Alexey Dolgov sings the role of Onegin’s friend-turned-rival, Lenski, with Elena Maximova as Tatiana’s sister Olga and Štefan Kocán as Prince Gremin.

**Interest sheets will be placed in the Trip Book for this specific series only ARENA STAGE: Registration for this series has begun. If you want to purchase the full subscription through Collington with the group rate, please contact Bianca Williams at [email protected] or x 4778. Tickets will be purchased on April 10 and will be added to your monthly statement. If you want to purchase tickets to individual shows, you may do so as well. Just be sure that seats for the bus are available. Keep in mind seats on the Collington bus are limited so please double check with Bianca Williams before you commit to your purchase. The 2017 - 2018 season’s Weekday Matinee Series consists of 9 shows: Native Gardens; Nina Simone: Four Women; Hold These Truths; The Price, Sovereignty; Two Trains Running; The Pajama Game; The Great Society; and Snow Child. All shows are on Wednesdays at noon unless otherwise stated. Seating on Collington transportation is limited. Seating is first come, first served especially for residents who purchase the entire matinee series through Collington. Non-Collington residents are welcome to sign up if seats are available after all Collington residents have had a chance to sign up. Tickets for Arena Stage can only be exchanged 30 days before your show date, no later. In case of an emergency, the Arena Stage staff will do their best to accommodate your requests.
