DINNER WITH DICKENS, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 5:30PM – AUDITORIUM: Charles Dickens published A Christmas Carol in 1843. A hundred fifty years later, his great grandsons combined their family’s favorite Victorian recipes and the best parts of his story in a guidebook called Christmas with Dickens. Collington’s five course feast, based on their recommendations, will include Sherried Prawns, Beef Wellington, Christmas Pudding, and wines. Reservations at $35 per person are required. They may be made only with Ana Amaya, x4771 and only after 9AM on Monday, November 26. Period costumes are encouraged but not required. PROTESTANT WORSHIP SERVICE, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1:30PM – CHAPEL: Please welcome again our friends and neighbors from Woodstream Church. Minister Malcolm Reeves will lead the service. All are invited and welcome. Questions? Please call Ardyce Asire, x7348. SUNDAY AFTERNOON CONCERT, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9, 3PM – AUDITORIUM: Our performers today are Karen Ashbrook and Paul Oorts, who play a delightful variety of European folk music. They play several unusual instruments, but the emphasis is on the hammered dulcimer. Their repertoire includes music from France and Belgium, Paul's native country. In keeping with the season, they will also include music for Hanukkah and Christmas. Ashbrook and Oorts will talk to you about their instruments, sharing insights into the history and culture of this music. Don't miss this wonderful concert at Three o'clock in the Auditorium this Sunday.

STATE LEGISLATORS SPEAK AT MACCRA MEETING, MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1:00PM -- AUDITORIUM: Collington’s own District 24 delegation -- state Senator Joanne Benson and Delegates Erek Barron, Andrea Harrison, and Jazz Lewis -- will be the featured speakers at MaCCRA’s (Maryland Continuing Care Residents Association) December meeting. All are welcome as our legislators share with us their priorities on the important issues that they expect to address during the 2019 legislative session. MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE: “Crazy Rich Asians,” 2018, PG-13 (2HR 1MIN) MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 7PM - AUDITORIUM: (This film is Closed Captioned.) "Crazy Rich Asians" follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick's family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country's wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick's arm puts a target on Rachel's back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick's own disapproving mother taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can't buy love, it can complicate things. EPISCOPAL SERVICE, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 10AM – CHAPEL: Larry Harris and John Evans, both Residents, will share the leadership of the service with John preaching and Larry celebrating the Eucharist. FITNESS COMMITTEE, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 3PM – BOARD ROOM: We value your input on fitness in addition to the physical space. Please attend. THE 85TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF FINE ARTS IN MINIATURE, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, BETHESDA, MD: Will depart from Security at 10AM; be back on the bus at 2PM to return to Collington.

THANK YOU!

Speak Up!

Nadine’s Initiative!

New Partnership Initiative!

I'm immensely proud to be part of a family that steps up again and again. We are so fortunate that the desire to give is ingrained in so many Collingtonians. Many of you spent your entire lives dedicated to others and this is what makes Collington special. We cross boundaries shunned by some and keep on giving and giving. I for one, appreciate you for who you are. Thank you. Lois Brown.

Thanks to the 330 Residents

Who Donated a Total of

$275,000

to this year’s

Employee Appreciation Fund

We could still use some residents to assist with saying thank you. I am attach-ing the schedule of when our gifts will be given. Call x2214 and leave a mes-sage if you are interested in participating.

Admin To be Determined

Creighton/Fitness Center Survey now in your hands (or on your com-puter)!!! We want ALL of your input. Please, whether you respond by email or hard copy, do participate in Collington’s evolution. If you can't answer a question, that is OK. Simply move on to the next one. Responses are not required for each question in order to complete the survey. Extra paper copies are available at the Clocktower and should be returned to Vern.

We are allowing ten days for response. If you want your voice to be heard, you must respond via email or hard copy by December 16, 2018. Any questions, call Laurie Cobb at x7205.

Nadine’s initiative

I want to recognize an ongoing initiative. Nadine Hathaway, our 1st VP has in-deed take the bull by the horn. She volunteered to improve our broken Hous-ing/District/Floor Leaders program. Not that’s a mouthful. Together with Mar-garet Bagley, Ann Davie, and Pat Johns, they formed the “Housing Task Force.” They interviewed 43 IL residents. So now, with their results, it is time for all residents to get involved. We need you to:

PAVE the way to your future. - Participate, Ask questions, Volunteer, Engage with neighbors and friends.

Can this program be fixed? We have no answers yet. What we do know is that it cannot be fixed without you. We need your help to find the way.

This conversation is just beginning and will be ongoing– with a housing leader workshop on Monday, January 7th for District, Cluster and floor leaders – from 3 – 4:30.

Thank you, Nadine for taking this on. She can be reached at x5148 (by the way I just used the new RA Brochure)!

New Partnership Initiative: The Health Services Committee (HSC) and Megan Barbour, Administrator/Director of Operations and her staff have begun a monthly health discussion on topics vital to the Collington community. De-cember’s focus, which began at the monthly HSC meeting this week, was on “Do Not Resuscitate.” The monthly topic will also be the focus of each month’s Coffee Chat following the RA Council Meeting. This month the Coffee Chat (without coffee) is on December 18th (2:30 PM) and residents will be invited to ask questions on the topic. Come, participate and learn the forms and process-es essential to ensuring that your wishes are carried out to the fullest extent possible.

You can see we have been busy. We are accomplishing much with your help. And there are so very, very many of you to thank. From my heart to yours. LB
