SHABBAT DINNER, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 5:30PM – DINING ROOM: The Friday night Sabbath dinner for the Jewish Community will begin promptly at 5:30PM in the Dining Room. Those wanting to come should RSVP by calling x2135 no later than Thursday, February 9 at 4PM. LAKES & TRAILS GROUP: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 9AM: (Formerly Weed Warriors) Meet behind the tennis courts. Last Saturday, February 4th, a stunning change was launched in the course of the Perimeter Trail. With pink and yellow ribbons tied to trees, we marked a passage away from the field behind the 5000's, and back and up the hillside a bit, then turning back down to join the existing black-top trail towards the far end of the 5000's. This stretch is far from complete. Anyone walking it now should be sure of placing their feet, and sure of their balance. This coming Saturday, we will take shovels and rakes to work on this new trail bed.Margaret Malone was quite right in suggesting that at present, it's a billy-goat trail, not yet level in sections. We have work to do. HEARING LOSS ASSOCIATION MEETING, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 10:15AM – GAME ROOM: The Prince George’s chapter of the Hearing Loss Association will meet from 10:15AM—11:30AM. Assistive listening devices will be demonstrated and discussed. These include personal hearing loops, devices for TV and music, wake-up and fire alarms, and devices for meetings. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Marketing Department, coffee will be available in the morning, with light food at the end of the meeting. CART services will be provided upon request to: [email protected]. For in-house questions and information, contact Jessica Milstead at: [email protected] or x7203.

February 7, 2017

It is with a heavy heart and mixed emotions that I inform you that my final day as Director of Sales and Marketing for Collington will be February 28th. This decision was not an easy one for me as Collington has been my extended family for almost five years and we have gone through a lot together. I’d like to “Thank You" for believing in me and supporting my efforts and vision. I will always value the opportunity I have had to work with my dedicated and passionate Marketing Team (that overcame many obstacles and challenges over the years to achieve amazing results and improve our community for future residents), the Inspiring Collington Residents, Committed Staff, our Dedicated Board, and all of our Kendal Friends and Supporters.

I have always tried to lead by example and believe that I have set a good example for hard work, determination, relationship-building and obtaining goals by perseverance, creativity and thinking out-of-the-box. I have fulfilled my commitment to Collington by increasing our occupancy from 68% -to- 92% in less than five years. I thank all of you for the knowledge and experience I have gained by working here as I continue on to my next position at an Independent and Assisted Living Community located just 2 miles from my home in Mt. Vernon, VA. I will do everything possible to ease the transition within my department and our community over the month of February. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity and will cherish all I have learned and accomplished along with all of you who have touched my heart. The Collington/Kendal Team will always remain cherished and dear to me.

I move on to my next challenge to the lyrics from a favorite song of mine “For Good” from one of my favorite musicals, “Wicked” …

… I've heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return Well, I don't know if I believe that's true

Courier 17 February 13-February 19, 2017

But I know I'm who I am today Because I knew you…

It well may be That we will never meet again In this lifetime So let me say before we part So much of me Is made of what I learned from you You'll be with me Like a handprint on my heart And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine By being my friend…

Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you

Because I knew you

I have been changed for good

For Good and Gratefully,

Susan Deller
